OPPs!! I made a wrong turn and ended up at the wrong Sushi place. I was so used to coming here that I automatically pulled in. We were actually supposed to try my girlfriend's favorite place. I guess next time we'll try her place. This has been the go place for the past couple of years for my girlfriend and I. She lives around the corner so this place is so convenient. They have ample parking as they share a lot with others in the strip mall. If you're lucky you can even get a parking space in-front. We've been lucky once and it was nice. Usually we park down a row. Their hours from 11:30am -8 pm. We usually get there at 11:30am to beat the crowd. Today we arrived around 1pm and we just hit the take out frenzy time. I can't believe how many take out orders they had. They just kept coming. Someone even ordered their hot food tray. The people kept streaming in to pick up their orders. Actual in restaurant guest were down to 3 tables. There had to be around 8 to go orders during the time we were there. It could be due to the storms that were on and off all day. I can't blame people for not wanting to come out. At one time it was pouring buckets. Not just a drizzle or hard rain it was coming down like a garden hose was turned on high. To our happy surprise you can get their lunch special Bento Boxes on the weekend. That was a surprise as most places don't offer their lunch specials on the weekends. The lunch specials are offered from 11:30am-3;30pm. The Bento Box is $15.50 (4-11-26) served with rice, salad and sunomono for dine in only. You can pick any two from a long list of options and unlike some places the Salmon isn't an up charge. I got the Chicken Teriyaki and miso asparagus. The asparagus is blanched and served with a miso based sauce. I find both very tasty. My girlfriend got the Chicken Teriyaki and Sesame Chicken. The Sesame Chicken is battered and fried and topped with the same teriyaki glaze that the chicken Teriyaki is topped with. I tried her Sesame Chicken and it was very good, but I prefer not eating fried foods. The other dish that I really like is the agedashi tofu. That's crispy battered tofu. So tasty. I'm glad we came here for lunch today. It was extremely tasty and just the right amount to fill our tummies and with enough food to take home for a snack later. If you haven't tried Banzai Sushi you should and come for the lunch special. It's the best deal around town. read more

You know when there are those places you pass by all the time and say, "we should go there one of these days"? Banzai has always been that place for me and my husband until recently and I'm so glad we finally visited. The expectations were high when my husband decided to have his birthday lunch at Banzai with a family group of 8. We were split into two tables across from each other due to their seating, but it worked well enough. Among our group, we got a variety of bento combinations, as well as a couple rolls, and of course the complimentary miso. The food and service were great and it was nice to see such a steady flow of customers. We'll definitely be visiting this neighborhood sushi spot more often and look forward to trying more items on their menu. read more

I went to Banzai Sushi last night and left before even being seated due to the unacceptable manner in which I was harangued about whether my service dog is truly a service dog. I have lived in the neighborhood for ten years now and have been to Banzai about a dozen times in that period. I am a disabled veteran, and after years of waiting, I finally got a VA-sponsored service dog 4.5 months ago to help me just function and navigate socially in life after having gone through some extremely traumatic events while serving and shedding blood for my country. My dog (an English cream golden) received five months of expert training followed by me undergoing five weeks of daily handler training with Northwest Battle Buddies (https://northwestbattlebuddies.org/) in Battleground, WA. We trained daily in stores, malls, restaurants, the light rail, and even through the TSA lines at PDX. I brought my dog home to Sacramento almost five months ago. He goes with me everywhere. I am with him at the Greenhaven Grocery Outlet or the croissant place next store nearly every day always walking by Banazai in the process. He is always vested, wearing his official Front Street shelter-issued Sacramento service-dog tag, and under leash control at my left side. He has never caused a disturbance or had any accidents. In restaurants, he just lays at my feet and goes to sleep. If you weren't looking, you wouldn't even know he was there. I've taken him to several dozen restaurants and never had an issue until Banzai staff confronted me last night. I did not expect that my local sushi place would look down on that, question whether my clearly identified service dog was a legitimate service dog, and violate ADA law repeatedly in the process. I get many people exploit the system claiming their pets or ESAs are service animals. Nobody hates that more than legitimate service dog handlers. But that does not give you the right to presume everybody is doing so and violate ADA law. When my wife, my service dog, and I arrived at Banzai yesterday evening one of your staff members asked to see some sort of certificate proving he is a service dog. Despite the fact that no such standardized certificate exists; you are not allowed to ask that question...nor is a service animal required to be vested or visually marked in any way as being a service dog. Still, mine always is. I showed you his vest and Sacramento city-issued service dog tag to you. That was still apparently not enough for you, as you made some snarky comment about how service dogs "usually are." You gave us a table but continued to comment that you were somehow justified in your grilling of even claiming what we need to read the fine print of the ADA laws. There is no "fine print" (you made that up). I tried to explain to you calmly and politely that your interpretation of the law was not based on reality. I was met with a "I'm sorry you feel that way" condescending platitude. I explained that this had nothing to do me feeling any sort of way, but rather, from the spoken words out of your mouth. By this point, I had no desire to be a continuing patron of Banzai Sushi and providing revenue to a place with such disrespect and unwarranted skepticism of disabled veterans and the service dogs which allow them to function in society. BTW, There are only two questions you can ask a person presenting what they claim is a service dog: 1) Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? 2) What work or task has the dog been trained to perform? That's it. No demanding of non-existent certificates or fabricating your own unlearned criteria of what a service dog is and does. Furthermore, there are only two instances where you can deny or revoke a service dogs presence in your establishment: * The dog is not housebroken. * The dog is out of control, and the person cannot get the dog under control. Neither of those was or has ever been a problem with my well-trained service dog. It would probably be good for your staff to familiarize themselves with the law without fabricating "fine print" clauses. I ordered the agedashi tofu (coating was too thick), I couldn't really taste the dipping sauce because the batter was thick and tasted like flour. We ordered the salmon nigiri and that was really good, I would get that again. The spicy scallop handroll was spicy but it was ok. We ordered the M3 and jalapeno business roll, both were good but too saucy. I would ask them to go light on the sauce next time because all I could taste was mayo and eel sauce and I couldn't taste the fish. The service was good. My only complaint is that both of our plates had huge chipped missing pieces. That's definitely a hazard and health code issue because bacteria can get caught in the cracks and chips. read more

Banzai Sushi is my favorite spot in the Greenhaven area for teriyaki chicken. It's one of those places we keep going back to because it's just always solid. We usually order ahead of time, and the food is almost always ready right when they say it will be. That alone makes life easier when you're hungry and just want to grab your food and head home. After my last visit here, I wasn't sure if I'd return. I've been a fan of this place for years, but my last visit just wasn't good. I'm happy to say that this time, things have improved considerably. The quality of the fish is better. The rolls were improved. And, they have a wonderful new app for ordering takeout. - sesame chicken: this has always been a solid choice. Just nicely fried chicken with a yummy teriyaki sauce. - general roll: this has been a longtime favorite of mine. They went a little heavy on the teriyaki sauce, but it was great otherwise. - extreme roll: a good roll. But again with the teriyaki sauce. A bit too much of it. - cherry blossom roll: this was good. It could use a little more texture (no shrimp tempura nor cucumber) but still a tasty roll. But again with the teriyaki sauce. So, while I don't think the rolls are quite the same as they used to be, they're much better than my last meal here. I wish they didn't put so much teriyaki sauce on all the rolls that I ordered since it kinda overwhelmed the other flavors. In fact, I don't recall there being teriyaki sauce on so many of their rolls. In any case, I'm happy to say that Banzai is back on my list of sushi places. read more

Our neighborhood spot for sushi! This place has decent quality and a steady stream of business. The chefs here are always incredibly sweet and polite. We love sitting at the bar. The happy hour is pretty good here with varying tiers of prices for a lot of options. This place is good if you're wanting to satisfy that sushi craving and don't want to spend exorbitant amounts of money. Our first time here and I certainly was impressed with the quality of the food, the quantity of the food for the price as well as the very, very nice service. Sesame chicken was very good and almost as good as you would find it the nearby establishments. The tempera was very good and there was plenty of rice in a very delicious fresh shredded cabbage salad as well as very tasty, sliced cucumbers, a.k.a. pickles in a sweet sauce. We have been dining here for years and love, love, love this place! Except... they recently did away with the chardonnay in favor of a canned white wine that is supposed to pair well with sushi. It is a viogner/sav blanc blend that I didn't care for. Please consider bringing back the chardonnay. Server told us we could bring our own bottle, but that's a hassle when all I want is one glass of cold chardonnay. Otherwise, food is great, portions are ample. Best thing about the Bento box is 2 pieces of shrimp in the tempura mix, plus option to add 5-piece gyoza for $4 more. Rolls are wonderful, with fave local-themed Riverside and Greenhaven. Happy hour prices and choices are definitely something to check out. Servers are very attentive even when busy with in-house and take out orders. Pick up service needs serious help. The last 2-3 times I ordered online. Each time I arrived a few minutes early. Each time I had wait beyond the time they said it was ready. I got into bench box lunch special some reason during race weekend. One of the two was at Banzai Sushi. It located near Elk Grove area and walking distance from my cousins house. In small shopping center with couple more small restaurants but all different. I excited cause cousins telling solid Japanese food. The sushi bar area is nice. I ended up sitting there cause just me plus right front soon walk in. Also bunch of table around so lots of options. The menu is pretty straight forward with all traditional Japanese food and sushi menu the same nothing crazy speciality rolls. I ended up getting two item lunch specials I settled on chicken katsu and teriyaki beef. Added Dragon Roll cause post race all about crab load or eating. Everything was amazing. Teriyaki beef had perfect balance not overkill sweet, moist, cooked spot on, and tasty. Chicken katsu nice breading, moist inside, and katsu sauce was good. This usual spot for my family and me just keeps getting worse and worse after each time we order take out, and unfortunately we will be cutting our tie to Banzai. We ordered take out on a Saturday night and when calling in we're always put on a long hold. I get it, it's Saturday night (5pm) and you guys get busy, but they are so short staff it's not even funny anymore. After being put on hold for a few minutes, I was told my order should be ready in 30 min. I arrive in 30 min, pay for my food but am forced to wait another 30 minutes. Came here for lunch around 12 ish, pretty empty like only 3 parties. Its right next to a bakery next to grocery outlet so parking lot is big. The first thing we saw when we sat down was a cricket on the floor tho rip. But anyways we all ordered off the lunch special menu which is the bento box for 13.95 i think. It came out in 20 minutes ish. The food was pretty good. I got the karaage and teriyaki beef. I like the beef but it was pretty tough. Next time i probably wouldnt get the karaage because it was a little bland and kinda heavy for me but was still pretty good. Also tried the salmon which was also good. For the teriyaki meats they jus have the slices of meat and pour teriyaki sauce over which i dont mind. It also comes with like a cabbage salad, orange slice and cucumber salad kinda, and a big portion of rice lol. The only thing i would complain about it not that much meat, for the non fried meats lol its jus a thin piece that they slice up but it comes with two meats so its not bad. Service was pretty good, they had one guy in the front doing the serving and sitting and he was cool and friendly. Overall its honestly a solid place. I heard theyre donburis are pretty big and their portions are much better than other japanese places. Prices are pretty good too.
