This sushi place was amazing. I don't know when I will be back down here so I thought I would be brave and give it a five now. I didn't expect the business to be so small, but luckily it was not a packed house. A friend and I met up and I told the employee her reservation and she took me to our table while I waited for her to arrive. There is a nice little special where you can order two rolls for a discounted price (I forgot what it was) or three rolls for $40.95. Considering each roll was $15-$17, this was a good deal. We started out with two hot green teas. They came out quite hot too. It hit the spot and I really liked that we got second teas for no charge. We ordered the Scotland Roll, Asparagus Snow Roll, and the Deep Fried Philly Roll. Also we ordered a side of edamame and seaweed salad. I was very impressed with how tasty the seaweed salad was and I loved the way all three rolls were presented beautifully on a large plate. We dug in and enjoyed every bite. My friend decided she wanted dessert and order the mochi. She asked the server what she recommended out of their three options of mango, green tea, or strawberry. The server said all of them were good but ended up bringing the strawberry over. I ordered the green tea ice cream and I really loved how it arrived in a martini glass with some whipped cream and chocolate. I was very impressed with what a gem this was and how amazing their food was. I really appreciated the great service. I wish it was closer to me.

Great service. Attentive, friendly. Amazing food and presentation and prices. So delicious from start to seaweed salad.

Already my 4th time coming back. And as always the food is amazing and the chef, James , is so cool.

This was a quaint restaurant with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The server was kind and prompt to assist us. We ordered 3 special rolls to share. Presentation was beautiful and combinations were tasty. The cuts of fish were not the best but for the price it was very good. They even gave us green tea ice cream for a great price. Overall, a great experience.

Very good quality sushi and I always come here for sushi. The service is amazing and the ambiance is also very good.

In front is the Newport Roll, and on the back left is the Kamikaze Roll, and on the right is the Salmon Lover Roll

This place is by far our absolute favorite sushi restaurant in town. James and Jean are especially kind and provide the best service you can ask for. They are very welcoming and making sure everything is expected but better! The sushi rolls versus the price, you really can't beat the quality of fish you get and also getting the Chef's special rolls! James does an awesome job at creating new and tasty rolls like the Salmon Mango and Blue Fin Tuna roll - absolute fire! It is a smaller shop, and the decor is very subtle and peaceful! it is a smaller shop, which is nice because it feels more private and enjoyable!

This restaurant has very kind staff, and their sushi is absolutely delicious. I wish I could give 6 stars

Chef's Special Cajun Bluefin Tuna Roll

Best Sushi spot in all of the OC! We have been coming here for 2 years now and let me tell you that the quality of the fish here is the best. You will not find any spot with better quality or presentation. James (the owner & chef) is very friendly and one of the most talented chefs I have ever witnessed. The mango tango roll is so fresh with a delicate sweetness from the ripe mango. I would highly recommend making it spicy! Any of the Nigiri is delightful, especially the Aji (Spanish Mackerel). Clare and Jean have some of the most efficient and friendly service. They always check in on us and ensure we have our glasses full. If you are looking for your next favorite sushi spot in the OC, look no further than Sky Bay Sushi in Costa Mesa! PS, be sure to share a glass of Sake with them on your next visit

Simply the best sushi in Costa Mesa, CA...which is near Irvine, I guess. I don't know. My wife was driving. Weve gone before, and I've reviewed before. We will go again, and I'll review again! Everything was fresh and immaculate. Well cut, and well prepared. The Cajun Roll is their speciality, especially good paired with the special house sauce, which has just a bit of spicy to it. Even my 5 year old chowed down on Udon noodles, grilled salmon, and the snapper. Owned and run by the nicest couple, just quality people serving up quality food. They love this place and the cuisine, and it shows. Check it out. Say hello. Leave full and happy! Always good to make your wife happy, and this does the trick. May work better if your wife is Asian, but probably in general as well.

Great service, great quality of food and great prices. Definitely recommend it if you're in Costa Mesa

Does amazing catering, as well as sushi is breath! The amberjack is unbelievable

James, the owner and chef is amazing! We've been coming here for years and this is the only place we will go to. We are originally from Seattle where the seafood is the best, is indeed that quality! No better place.

Sushi was mushy and tasted fishy. Was also very expensive for how poor the quality of food was. Can't recommend this place unfortunately

We ordered the spicy shrimp wontons, garlic noodles, crab congee, and the filet mignon saltado fries (sidenote: you can also upgrade the side of rice from the saltado fries to garlic noodles but my partner wanted rice AND noodles lol.) The spicy shrimp wontons are on the sweeter side so if you're thinking they'll be similar to a certain restaurant in South Coast, it's not quite the same - but still yummy! And I think it paired nicely with the garlic noodles. They don't skimp on the crab in the congee and it's sooo flavorful (contrary to what I feel like people often assume about rice porridge). Our server recommended a side of chili oil to pair with it that added some texture and depth, but I like how strongly the crab comes through without it. If I had to pick one dish though, it'd be the saltado fries (sub garlic noodles). The spice from the aji dipping sauce sneaks up on you a little bit but it complements the tender meat and the fries, tomato and onion balance it all out nicely. We were seated at the bar where they were playing all kinds of bangers (at a low enough volume where we could still talk amongst ourselves), and both our server and the bartender were attentive... would recommend!

Very diverse menu but all is Hawaiian / Asian food. Ordered a few things sitting in the patio on opening at 11:00 a.m. since we didn't have any breakfast coming in from the valley. Macadamia nut crusted lobster roll= C Fish fresh but very weird sauce that I did not like and the macadamia nut on top just doesn't work with this. To each their own but not for me and an easy regret Coconut curry wok'd mussels -B Usually completely run away from anything Curry, and this was kind of ordered by mistake as I did not recall seeing anything curry-wise when I read the description but I must have missed it however it was a pleasant surprise and a very unique dish presented wonderfully. It goes great with a coconut white rice which our server brought. Half and half half pork ribs with half of it dry rub and half of it wet B+ (full rack) Well, the ribs are fall off the bone and both the dry rub and wet with delicious barbecue sauce very tasty, but they came out lukewarm at best so they did not do a good job of reheating or else it would be close to an A. I didn't expect them to prepare a fresh rack of ribs for me at 11:00 a.m. on opening so I knew a reheat was coming but it tasted good. They were just not hot. The purple cabbase slaw is masked as Asian on the menu but its nothing but a heavily doused with vinegar cabbage to the point its mushy. Crispy mahi mahi wok'd with veggies.B- Very creative dish but it was over sweetened to death to the point where it affected the crispiness of the fish pieces. Waay over-sauced, literally swamped in glaze. If it was dryer the fish chunks would be much crispier and it would taste a lot lighter and better. In a nutshell this restaurant is not for the risk adverse and has very unique pairings and sauces and preparation methods which you will either love hate or not be sure as I still am but it was good to try once and that's it for me. 3.5 Stars rounding up to four for the good service.
