Sushi in Dallas is not very good compared to LA or Seattle, so the bar is low here - and this place is better than most in Dallas. The proportions of sushi on the sushi platters here is "ok" - on a 14 piece platter, just one single piece was salmon. What was there was mostly fresh and tasty. Some of the pieces were a bit dried out, but above average for Dallas sushi. Two complaints - (1) you have to share your seating with other people (sit next to strangers) unless you sit at the bar. (2) It's really loud in this place - there is no sound dampening and it sounds like an echo chamber. My ears literally ring because it only takes one loud person to ruin the experience (Note to the owner: Look at sound dampening panels to easily fix this). Because of the above, it is NOT a romantic place or my idea of an intimate date night - which is weird since they don't allow children. I could barely hear my date talk because it was so noisy. So I'm probably going to look for a place that has similar quality but isn't an echo chamber and where I can hear what my date is saying and not the loud people three tables over. read more

My hair stylist was raving about this restaurant so being just 15 mins away I decided to check it out. Tried the sake flight with a friend, but only liked the less dry, more fruit flavored sake "haroshika" and nibbled on some salty roe and a salmon skin hand roll, generous heaps of wasabi and ginger although the fresh grated wasn't available. Last call was stressed a lot, kind of a nuisance but overall ambiance was good. Looking forward to going back and trying some things I've never seen on a sushi menu before! read more

We visited this place recently for dinner. We were seated relatively quickly and the place was packed. Food is okay. I'm not sure it's quite worth the price but the food was good. I'd come back from their bentos since they didn't serve that for dinner. We had a toddler in tow and the staff was kind and courteous especially when we changed our minds 2 or 3 times on wanting a high chair or not. To be specific, our toddler kept changing her mind. Our waitress seemed kind of new. Kept on putting hot or stuff that's easily spillable in front of the toddler but she meant well enough. All in all, a good experience with the food and seating. When we paid, it was hard to find the waitress to come take our credit card but the bus guy was kind of enough to take it for us as he saw we were waiting for so long. read more

I would have to say this is, hands down, my favorite sushi restaurant in the DFW area! It is very authentic and the fish quality is top notch. My friend and I came here around 7, and we waited about half an hour for our table. The lights were dimmed, creating an intimate atmosphere. We started off with a plate of sashimi (salmon, tuna, and red snapper) paired with sake. Each sashimi order comes with 6 thickly-cut pieces. We decided to order more and got eel and 2 spicy salmon hand rolls. By the end of dinner, we were both STUFFED. Food was fantastic overall, and the price is just right. Phenomenal Experience in a traditional setting. This is not your typical sushi restaurant. They have a very large variety of nigiri sushi. They also have a very large variety of other hot dishes including Japanese eggplant, Shishito peppers & Agedashi (all pictured below). The Uni (sea urchin) I've had it twice on separate occasions at other sushi restaurants and it was not something that I enjoyed but I tried it here and it was scrumptious, clean, fatty and sweet. The most delicious choices were the sweet shrimp, scallop and flounder. They are definitely worth the wait and time spent. Our dinner lasted about 2 hours with good conversation cold beer and sake. Our server checked up on us consistently and make sure our drinks were full as well as our plates with the next course. My best suggestion is to show up right before they open,sign your name and phone number on the clipboard posted outside and wait to be called. read more

This used to be the best sushi restaurant in Texas. But it has deteriorated badly. Not only is the quality of the food taken a dramatic dive, the service, which was never particularly great, is now awful, and rude. They've adopted an arrogant and rude reservation policy. There are other good Japanese restaurants in the area that have better food and much better service without all the hassle this place cause just to get a table. I think everything we ordered was amazing! Like score 100 out of 100! Uni shot is no joke, so smooth and good! The sea urchin was so fresh and sweet. No weird taste. This is a much order! Dynamite was really really good too. It's not a traditional roll with sauce in the top. Instead the scallop is separate with rich. The scallop was HUGE! Very satisfying. Definitely gonna order this again Also the grill sea bass, was so tender and sweet. I feel one wasn't enough for me The toro was high quality, it melt in my mouth. When I tell you this place was not it ...I truly mean it. The first red flag was they took my credit card information over the phone- secure pin and all - I don't like that! The edamame was terrible didn't have any kind of taste to it, and no salt. At least not on this batch. I'm not even a big salt person. My daughter pretty much loves California rolls at most places and she was not feeling them. The California rolls had an overwhelming amount of avocado and minimal crab in it. Wow!! I think I've found my go to sushi place in the DFDubs. The food came out at a reasonable time, it tasted fresh, the pieces are huge, and it's affordable! Service (4/5) the service was pretty great except for at the very beginning. My BF and I initially wanted to sit at a table but we changed our minds and switched to the bar instead and the hostess kind of gave us a mini attitude about it. Other than that, the service was great!! Environment/ambiance (5/5) the place is clean and I like how the offer a huge sushi bar. I also like the tables because they have a cushion that reminds me of Japanese traditions. The decor here it's pretty cute too! If you find yourself seated at the sushi bar, get to know the friendly chefs and if you're feeling adventurous and trust that the chefs know what's best, indulge and reward yourself with an omakase! It's rare finding real Japanese sushi. After moving from LA to Plano, TX, I couldn't find any beautiful Japanese restaurant because I am a new, living here and novice Texan. However, after having lunch with my friend at this Japanese restaurant, I became a fan of chirashi ju. It is included 2pc tuna, 1pc shrimp, 1pc octopus, 1 pc mackerel, 1pc salmon, 1pc surf clam, 1pc white fish, 1pc egg. This is artisan: professionally cured or aged to make fish texture firm and chewy, and no fish smell even though all fish is raw except shrimp. In particular, I praise the rice. As a Korean, I cook rice every day but it hard to keep proper density and taste like Italian making sourdough. However, this restaurant make high quality sushi rice harmonizing with sushi and other entree. And portions are huge enough for lunch. Next time I will try another one. read more

My family and I have been eating there for years. It was one of our favorite places. The food has always been excellent. We recently went for dinner and had a terrible experience. My family usually puts in an order and if we are still hungry we'll add a few more dishes. As we were deciding what additional dishes to add the owner of the restaurant came up to our table and stated "we had to order then and there or leave". We told her we just needed a few minutes, she told us "we needed to hurry or leave because people were waiting for tables." At that point we decided it was best to leave. We have eaten Sushi Sake off and on for more than 20 years. More off than on over the past decade. We dined with them when they were in the strip center just a few hundred yards from the current location. The food is always outstanding. The service is efficient. But, please please don't rush us. When your spending $150 for two people for a meal you want to enjoy the experience and don't want to be in and out in 35 minutes. The pressure rather known by the owner or management to eat quickly keeps us from dining more often. Our favorite Sushi place in Plano changed ownership 8 months ago and the new ownership is really struggling, so we are bouncing around again trying to find our new spot. Sushi Sake has been my favorite restaurant and I've been a regular for 15+ years. Unfortunately tonight the manager would not comp a half eaten Louisiana roll which had a spoiled piece in the middle. She treated me like I was trying to get a free roll and told me she didn't care if I ever came back or if I had been coming for 20+ years. Instead of taking an $8 loss she chose to lose a lifelong customer. She raised her voice and kept interrupting me. I was forced to pay for spoiled fish and was treated like a criminal and liar. This is probably the 100th time I've ordered this roll from Sushi Sake, again, the middle piece tasted rotten and I had to spit it out. The server tried to change the narrative that they cannot comp a roll I don't like. That is NOT what I communicated, I clearly stated the middle piece was rotten. Came with a big group on Tuesday night to celebrate a friend's birthday - it was my first time here, though others in our party had visited before. We made a reservation for 6 in one of the tatami mat rooms in the back, and ended up being the only people that used the back room for the entire time we were there. Seating and decor were all really nice, and the ambience was great. We ordered several of the appetizers -- my favorites were the chawan mushi and the sauteed scallops, the former for the flavor and the latter for the flavor and portion size. I also split the sashimi sampler with a friend, as well as the negi hamachi hand roll, snapper, scallop, and mackerel nigiri, and the salmon skin roll. All the sushi and sashimi was great, as was the hand roll, but I wasn't huge on the salmon skin roll -- I've had better at other sushi establishments in the area. The scallop and mackerel nigiri in particular were delicious, and all the raw fish was extremely fresh. We ended the evening with some ice cream -- I'm generally not a huge red bean person, but the red bean ice cream here was delicious, as were the matcha and mango flavors! Docked one star because the price point was a bit steep for what was on offer in my opinion, but I would definitely come back in the future for sushi with other people! read more

I like this place a lot for sushi. The sushi is fresh and always good. Some of the plates are absolutely beautiful. Service is hit or miss, but they always try hard. The seating at the restaurant is frustrating. Nowhere to wait for your table. Literally. Friday night our wait time for 2 was more than an hour. We waited in our car for the table. You cannot wait in the restaurant. They need a bar/lounge area where you can wait. You can't get a cocktail or glass of wine until you sit down. I don't like that aspect of the restaurant. read more

Dined here for my birthday. My partner and I were seated and squished into a table, elbow to elbow with another family of 4. The kids of that family were clearly uncomfortable being seated so close to strangers (us) but the staff ignored it. Obviously the restaurant needs to make use of their space but it felt really patronizing and exploitative of them to seat their customers so uncomfortably close. My partner and I were not able to enjoy a quiet birthday evening due to that. We had to squish all of our plates in our space of the table and awkwardly constantly shift the plates around, because of the way they packed us in. Thankfully we all got around to joking about the situation and made light of it, but it left a bad taste in our mouth in terms of a customer's perspective. FOOD - Sushi and sashimi is just alright. We're from Hawai'i and are definitely blessed to have tasted super fresh fish as the standard of sushi. People told us that Sushi Sake has the best fresh fish in town but it doesn't even come close to "real" fresh fish. All the fish had a slightly fishy taste, but at least the portions are decent in size. Logistically, I'm sure there's no way to get really fresh fish in Dallas, but it was still a let-down. Service is really polite, despite the seating, so kudos to that. Probably won't be back. read more

My husband and I enjoyed their nigiri. Took me by surprise that they kept their basic roll to what I remember from the early 2000s! Nowadays most restaurants want to spice up the Spider roll and Louisiana roll, and some just didn't hit right. I'm so glad I was able to revisit this place. My fave were the nigiri and agedashi tofu. My least favorite was the waitress. I get it... the reviews are mainly about their service being meh. I can see why, but it didn't bother me as much. Me and my family had dinner here on my daughter's birthday since we miss Japan and we've been looking for authentic Japanese food. We like the ambiance of the place. While looking on their menu the owner or manager (I'm not sure who the old guy was) went to our table and told my kids to lower the volume of their iPads, as if the volume was too loud and as if inside the restaurant was quiet but it wasn't, people were very loud talking to each other. Anyways I just told my kids to lower down their iPads volume. After dinner, I paid for the bill and included a 14% tip. The waitress asked me why I left only a 14% tip? I told her that since tips are optional as shown on the bottom of the bill, so I am not obligated to leave more tips. On my way out the waitress came after me and handed over me a pen demanding to change what I wrote and leave more tips. She demanded that I have to tip at least 18%. Man, I've never run into a situation like this when a waitress ran after you to demand more tips due to their services. This was ridiculous since tips are optional as clearly shown on the bill. I wasn't even satisfied with the service, and the food, I find it too dry. We will not go back to this place and we ain't recommending it to other asians living in Dallas. read more

Located in a quiet area in Richardson, so was surprised to see that it was so busy! Loved the interior, it was cozy and very authentic. Went with a group of 4 so ordered the plum wine, sake sampler, edamame, tuna nigiri, yellowtail nigiri, eel nigiri, salmon nigiri, scallop maki roll, spider maki roll, California maki roll, and vegetable roll. The service was excellent and all the dishes came out quickly! The rolls were AMAZING, very fresh! Loved the eel nigiri, scallop maki roll, and spider maki roll. Story: Been going here for 5+ years and even though they're 1 of my fav sushi spots in DFW, the customer service always falls short and the hostess always manages to piss me and my family off. We unexpectedly had a +1 to our party and they refused service and just told us they couldn't sit there. I'm a restaurant owner myself and I would never do that without offering a new table. The lady just stared at us and told us they can't sit there and told us to get back onto the wait list?? When we were already halfway through the meal. And they said we can't order more food... isn't that how you make money? They're rude and don't know how to do business. Really sad. I understand if the table is too small, or it's a hazard but you can kindly offer a solution without yelling at your paying customers. the first time i came here, i had a bad experience because I ordered a dish from the menu. the dish that came out looked like what I had ordered (chirashi ju) but fancier (uni) than I expected for the price ($24). i was slightly on guard but thought nothing of it. later the bill comes, and the dish i ordered seemed way pricier than i was expecting. i was shocked and asked to speak to a waitress. she said that was what i ordered, so i decided to ask for a menu. i could not find the item at all. i explained this situation to the manager, and apparently she thought i ordered an off menu item? keep in mind the other menu was not the same style of menu as they give their customers. they did honor the original ($24) pricing, but seeing how upset the waitress was at our party was upsetting. i say this story, because even though this did happen, i still really enjoy the food here. usually restraunts tend to go downhill in flavour overtime, but i still think they provide a good value for what you're getting esp the chirashi ju. obviously there are better but they are a drive. this place does get really busy, but with 2 people i have always been sat at the restaurant. they also have a dress code, which i did not know about before and have been breaking for awhile, but they'll still serve u. also, if you sit at the bar, they'll give you oranges for dessert! tldr: hit or miss - its more about if the food tastes worth it to u read more
