this place is known as lunch spot for me. the sushi is almost high end type fish quality and the my favorite is Pho, beef Gyudon and of course chef selection nigiri sushi, they fat tuna and Uni is the greatest. My friend said I needed to check this out for a workday sushi fix. I much prefer traditional sushi to places like Buredo so I thought I'd give it a try. Overall I was not very impressed with the sushi here. For $13 I got a basic tuna roll and a fire roll. They kicked in a few Edamame for good measure. I know sushi is always a bit pricey but based on the size of the rolls and extensions the quality and amount of fish in the rolls I felt pretty unsatisfied. Normally two rolls is plenty for me but after eating here I see why my friends all dropped $20+ to order three rolls. I will say unlike some of the other yelp reviews, I found the staff to be nice and the place to be clean. I have been coming here, on and off, for over six years. The food is good, the lunch special is somewhat bland but is a filling meal for the price, and the wait time is very low. I always relied on this place for cheap, filling lunch. The soup was always piping hot and Wendy, the former owner, was super friendly and remembered my order. I haven't been in a couple months, and when I visited last, I noticed they are under new management. Curious to see how they run the place! They did however reject my "loyalty card" (had a free lunch coming, but apparently it's not accepted anymore) which is a bummer. read more

Suki Asia is the very definition of OK. It's a small (maybe 6-7 table) asian restaurant open for lunch only on M street (although the address is on Rhode Island, the entrance is on M - I work in the building and it's confusing to visitors all the time). I waited in a fairly long line to order Bulgologi bimbap, paid $12 for it, and then waited about 15 minutes to actually get my food. Every time I've visited here, I've had to wait at least that long to get my food. My bulgolgi was cold, and not as sweet as I'd expected. It's pretty mediocre, but it came with a very generous helping of fresh veggies (bean sprouts, carrots, sesame cucumbers, lettuce, and a white veggie i can't identify that was crunchy and flavored like kimchee) and rice, as well as a small bowl of miso broth. The free tea other yelp reviewers mentioned hasn't been there in a while. Note: there are weekly specials - so on Mondays and Wednesdays, you can get your bulgolgi bimbap for $9 or $10 after tax, instead of $12. read more

Some people shouldn't open restaurants, let alone two. I gave Suki Asia a fair chance - I really did - and on both occasions I regretted stepping foot inside at all. According to its menu, Suki Asia is a Japanese restaurant by the owners of Chopsticks (Georgetown). I've never been to Chopsticks but I'm leery of any place that manages to screw up an order of boolgogi bibimbap ($8). Its a very simple dish that consists of meat, vegetables, rice and hot sauce; but Suki Asia managed to screw this up somehow. Nothing seemed fresh - shrived up slivers of salty beef, wilted spinach, and limp pieces of carrots and bean sprouts - it was as if I ate rotting food. Suki Asia also serves a $7 chicken teriyaki bento box where the piece of chicken is grilled and baked until its completely dried so it requires the accompanying cup of teriyaki sauce to mask the arid poultry. This is not a grilled piece of marinated chicken. This is a piece of dried chicken with sauce drizzled on top. Moreover, Suki Asia's idea of a bento box is a small green leaf salad drenched with ginger dressing, a heaping of rice (but no sesame seeds), two pieces of cucumber, and a pitiful portion of seaweed salad. For $9.95, you could get a proper bento box from Murasaki* (Tenleytown) that includes shrimp & vegetable tempura, seaweed salad, shrimp dumplings, salad, miso soup, a bowl of rice, a few pieces of sushi, AND chicken teriyaki. Alternatively, your $7 is probably better spent on a chicken teriyaki lunch box from the L Street Vendor on southeast corner of 14th & L St. I wouldn't even remotely consider the sushi. $4 for a spicy tuna roll? This isn't Sushi Ko or Kaz Sushi. No restaurant could justify a premium for poor quality fish and poor craftsmanship. You don't need to taste the fish to know it's bad. It's plainly visible by the fish on display. Pale colors and brownish spots are signs of aging flesh. Rough and uneven cuts indicate poor knife skills. Thin strips of fish reflect a stingy restaurant. 1 Star - Suki Asia? More like Sucki Asia. It's the trifecta of a terrible restaurant: bad food, bad experience (including atmsophere & service), and bad value. You'll find a better meal next door at Jack's Fresh Deli. * I refer to Murasaki only as a reference point. If you don't work close to this location then I suggest asking for a plastic bag to carry everything in. HOW COME I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS PLACE!? It is right below the building I work in. I came here on my last day of my internship because one of my co-interns would not stop raving about this place! I got the bibimbap and miso soup! The miso soup was delicious and had little pieces of tofu in it! Now for the bibimbap, it had your typical meat, kimchi, various vegetables, and fried egg on top. All the vegetables tasted very fresh and the meat was cooked well! I feel like you can't go wrong with bibimbap - Although, this is a small location and at times I felt cramped because I didn't know where to stand. I did a take-out instead and ate at work, but it seemed like a very cozy and homey place. Be aware, lunch time is crazy Monday through Friday because of all the nearby work people coming in! Terrible, just terrible. This restaurant is an absolute rip-off. The place is dirty, cramped (hardly anywhere to sit), expensive, and the food is OLD. I ordered a spicy sushi combo (1/3 spicy tuna, 1/3 spicy salmon, 1/3 spicy California roll), which came with 18 pieces of old sushi filled with rice with hardly any fish. I had to force myself to finish my food because I had paid for it, but the sushi rolls were so dry. And this is coming from someone who could eat sushi and love it every single day. The miso soup that came with the meal was basically just yellow water. It tasted terrible. It was so salty that I could only have two sips of it before throwing it out. The salad was wilted and the dressing was bitter. I paid $15 for that meal. I was utterly disappointed. It's also really hard to find this place - it says 1730 Rhode Island Ave NW, when really the entrance is on M Street. I went to 1730 Rhode Island Ave, which was an office building, and was told to go around to the other side of the street. The concierge at the office building asked me to please tell the owners of the restaurant that he had to send yet another person to the other side of the street because their address was listed incorrectly. After a really bad sushi experience near home, my roommate recommended I meet her for lunch in DC for good sushi. Although I balked at having to take the metro into DC on a hot summer day, I did not regret her invitation. Food: As we stood in line to order, we saw a cooler with free iced green tea which hit the spot on such a hot, sunny DC day. I ordered the Alaska roll and my roommate ordered Toshi roll. Both came with delicious miso soup which tasted denser than others I've had elsewhere. We were both very happy with our rolls. The fish was fresh and the flavors sublime. The menu also featured don buri and bento boxes, as well as bibimbap. One bit of constructive feedback: provide more menus for patrons. There is one laminated menu at the cashier which does not provide sufficient time to peruse the options and make an informed decision. Ambiance: Very busy at lunch time with less than two dozen two-person seating. A few of those can be joined to make a couple of four-person seating arrangement. Very basic décor with some Japanese paintings of fish are hung on one wall that has a long stain running along it. Service: The cashier did not want to allow us to order our lunch to eat in when she saw that there was no available seating. This is most unusual for an American eatery but we went with the flow and hunted down a table then indicated it to her and she permitted us to order our meal to eat in the restaurant. With DC so lacking in Asian food options, I was pretty happy to find this place again. The lunch bibimbap special is a perfect amount of food, with enough beef and veggies to balance out the rice. Whisk in some gochujang and you have one solid lunch. And it comes with either a soda or a miso soup. The sushi represents the weaker side of Suki Asia (side question: why does DC blend Asian cuisines all the time?). The California roll I got was passable, but it was lumpy and I definitely make better ones at home. It does come with a few wisps of salad and some edamame though. Their pho was nothing special. This is the first time I've ever had pho where it came with hot water and no broth (wtf?). I am awed by the reviewer who stated that Jack's Fresh has better food. I come here semi-regularly and grab either a Tofu-don or a bowl of miso soup and seaweed salad. Both are very tasty. I've gotten their sushi now and then, too (including today, which was a special), and it's consistently good. Not the best sushi around, but for a quick fix/healthy meal, it's great. Their Udon soup is also very good. Both the Udon and their whatever-"don" bowls as well as their bento boxes are a LOT of food. Come hungry. Soft spoken and friendly couple behind the counter when I came for lunch last Friday shortly after they opened their doors at 11 am. As others have noted, the entrance is on M St. They have daily lunch specials, which I opted to try last week. In addition, I picked up a box of sushi for $5.50. Sushi is available in different varieties and come with some edamame. I didn't really like the beef bulgogi lunch special. I found it lacking in terms of meat and rice (see picture). I thought the sushi was good and a nicely needed addition for protein during lunch but there might have been too much rice for me there. In the front there is a place to pick up utensils, free tea, and other condiments like soy sauce and wasabi. I opted to eat in and found a steady stream of customers during lunch time. Suki Asia successfully satisfied my bibimbap craving. I'm spoiled since I've been to Korea, so while Suki's doesn't measure up to the real thing, it was good enough to fulfill my desire. I was a bit bummed that everything including the meat was pre-prepared, but since I got there right at noon it probably hadn't been sitting around long. That also meant I only had to wait about 30 seconds for my food to be ready. The beef was pretty flavorful, though some pieces were a little chewy. It was a little more than I wanted to spend ($11 including tax - I guess the menu I found online was old), but the portion was fairly large, and they were more generous with the bulgogi than I was expecting (see photo). It also came with free miso soup (which didn't have any solids in it - it was just the broth) and they have free tea (both hot and iced) at the front of the counter, so all told it was probably a reasonable price. read more

I spent two years living in South Korea and loving the food. This charming place has outstanding bulgogi! The space is intimate and a fun spot to gather with friends or a sweetie. The customer service is good and the staff quite accommodating since we changed our mind a few times...just so much good stuff to pick from. The owners were super nice and greeted me the second I walked inside (such a nice change of pace from typical DC service). Three lunch specials for $5.99. -The Bibimbap -Beef-don -Tofu-don You have the option of ordering miso soup or soda with your special; although I initially wanted to try the beef-don, I opted for the bibimbap and soup to go. There isn't too much seating in the actual place, so I wouldn't recommend eating there during the lunch rush. My order was ready in five minutes, and I happily walked back to my office in anticipation. Generous portions! Although there wasn't that much beef, the vegetables included were all very fresh; it was a mix of lettuce, carrots, seaweed, bean sprouts, egg, and beef over rice! Suki Asia has a cheap rice bowl lunch special for $5.99 which comes with miso. The wait can be kind of long (up to 15-20 mins) especially during the lunch rush but just make sure you factor that time in. It's hard to get a table for more than 2 people and even then you have to hover around and stare at people until they finish their food and leave. I love coming here for their tasty and cheap rice bowls. Important though: DO NOT ORDER THE SUSHI. I've tried it twice - it's on par with grocery store sushi quality but it's much more expensive. The fish is not fresh at all, the rice is hard and no amount of soy sauce and wasabi can mask how terrible it is. Pay just a few dollars more and go up the street to get the chirashi lunch special at Sushi Taro. It's worth it. read more

I happened upon this place during lunch one day. It says that is the take out version of Chopsticks in Georgetown. I was super excited that there was a sushi place less than 5 minutes from my office. When I get there I notice that they are a part of the bento box trend. You get a bent box with rice, california rolls, seaweed salad and an entree. This is where it really become asian fusion. The entrees are both Japanese and Korean. I opted for the Bulgogi, thinly sliced grilledbeef with onions and a blend of Korean spices. The Bulgogi was quite tough although it had the proper flavor. The california rolls were tasteless. The saving grace was that the brown riced was seasoned really well. The food was just okay for $9 I was extremeley full. Total ripe-off. None of the combinations have a description on the wall menu, so you have no idea what you are getting. I ordered the sashimi combination. $23 for a small plate of sashimi. I just looked at it when they gave it to me and wondered where the rest of it was. Normally the word combination means you get something other than a small plate of sashimi. Nothing. No soup. No salad. I looked at the menu when I got home and realized I was shorted 3 pieces of sashimi and a miso soup. When I called after getting home the restaurant said I could come back in for the soup next time. Obviously there won't be a next time. They also argued about the shorting on the sashimi, although it's right there on their menu online. This still wouldn't have been a good deal if the order had been complete, but it wasn't. I would have been able to tell that if there were descriptions on the wall menu and I could have gotten the sushi and sashimi combo that has about double the amount of food. It's never good when you need to get a second lunch because the one you ordered is so paltry. read more

The five star is for the price and food combined. As everyone says the 5.99 Bibimbap lunch special that includes a Miso soup or soda is a fantastic deal for Dupont Circle. They were very friendly and fast. For those that don't know what Bibimbap is, it's a simple Korean dish consisting of rice, vegetables, egg, beef and some hot sauce (Gochujang). It's filling and delicious and isn't a million calories like many americanized chinese food dishes. The hot sauce is served on the side so you can add to taste. There was a reasonable amount of seating. If you get there earlier you can probably find a place to sit, otherwise bet on take-out. read more

Suki Asia is not striving to be trendy or charming or even innovative, it is just trying to be excellent at what it does, and it succeeds. The bibimbap special at 5.95 everyday is hearty, with plenty of vegetables (though much of this is admittedly lettuce), and comes with your choice of a cup of miso soup or a can of soda. The bulgogi on top is flavorful, as are the spinach and bean sprouts. The miso soup is uneventful but comforting. The service is efficient and friendly, and you can enjoy a cup of hot or iced green tea for free while you wait for your food. The bento boxes and sushi combos also look appealing (sushi rolled fresh on the premises), but I haven't tried them yet, because it's so hard to turn down the amazing and healthy bibimbap deal. Do yourself a favor and check this place out the next time you're vainly trying to think of a sandwich alternative for lunch-- this place is like the Adam Express of the downtown area! read more
