I've been to both Sushi Sumo for dine in and take out. They're located in a strip mall a few doors down from Fresh Market. Like most Asian food places in this area, they've got a little bit of everything. Firstly, their portions are huge. My dad and I often get the pad thai and even between us we can't finish it. I also really like their Mongolian Chicken. And yes, they do actually serve sushi. It could be a bit fresher, but it definitely doesn't taste spoiled or like it's been sitting out too long. My friend who grew up in Japan had no complaints when she ordered their tuna sashimi. The food is definitely solid and they have a huge menu, but nothing has ever blown me away. If you're dining in, know that the restaurant is tiny. They only have about 8 tables, but the service is quick and the staff is nice. When we get take out, sometimes they'll throw in doughnuts for free. I've never been during lunch, but they have a long list of lunch specials that look very reasonable. Sushi will definitely run you the most, but you can easily get out of there cheaply if you'd like. read more

Sushi Sumo is a decently priced place for Sushi in the Alpharetta/Johns Creek/Norcross area. I'm not sure what area it technically is... I've read three different descriptions that say each of those cities. i would say Alpharetta technically. ANYWAYS...on to the review! The food here seems pretty affordable priced. We had three rolls, the ginger salad and wonton soup. The soup and salad were good. Just as you would expect from any wonton soup and salad. We had the sumo roll, godzilla roll and I believe it was the seafood roll. Overall, the sushi was good. I would recommend this place if you are looking for something affordable and decent. I would say that this is a 2.5 star review. When you first walk in the first thing you realize is that the place is tiny which I actually love because it makes it feel very homey. The sushi was nothing to write home about, I had the asparagus roll and all I tasted was the vinegar in the rice and it seemed a little under cooked. The boyfriend's sushi looked good, but he wasn't so excited. He said it was nothing to write home about. I also had the tofu with vegetables in a brown sauce and that was tasty. The tofu was cooked perfectly and the brown sauce had some really good flavor. Next time I will try more of the thai offerings they have. I did notice that the place had quite a take out following. I saw more people doing pick up orders than diners in the restaurant. The service was a little slow and bare bones with not a whole lot of personality. read more

Came for dinner and had an eel roll for an app. It was delicious. We ordered spicy basil leaf beef and tiger shrimp. Both dishes were excellent. Came back for lunch and had Pad Thai Shrimp. Also very good. The lunch meals came with soup or salad, mini egg roll and a chicken wing. The only thing we didn't like was that there is an $8 minimum to be able to pay with credit card. This is not the greatest-most-super-amazing sushi I've had in my life, but it's pretty good and it's extremely consistent. I have not been to the restaurant, so this review is based solely on multiple (many multiple) delivery experiences. 1. Delivery is ALWAYS early. It appears at our door in like 25 minutes, and that makes me happy. The same guy always shows up to our house and he's super nice. 2. They sort the hot food and the cold food into separate bags. It's a small but thoughtful thing that I appreciate. 3. The food is consistently very good. The somewhat expensive larger maki rolls are compensated for by the relatively inexpensive smaller rolls. Recommend (sushi): spicy salmon roll, carribean roll, sweetheart roll (bonus: it's cute). Recommend (not-sushi): seaweed salad, veggie tempura app, sesame chicken. Big fan of sushi. Yuge. This review is solely based on delivery from them as I work up the road and use them all the time when I can't get out of the office. They have some typical classics on their menu that I haven't tried. I usually go with a roll and either a soup or app. Service has always been fast and friendly. My orders are always correct, and food still warm or chilled as appropriate. Service-wise it's great, the sushi itself is ok. Not the worst, but doesn't really have much of a wow factor. Went to SS a few nights ago with some friends. I had the spicy coconut chicken soup. It was yummy, but definitely spiced a bit hotter than I am used to for coconut soup. The potstickers were fantastic for me, not too doughy, tasty filling. I had the Chirashi for dinner and it was sublime. THey added sesame seeds, a bit of spice, and sauce to the rice and I cleaned by bowl. My only complaint is we sat near the door and it was COLD. Will definitely be back, with a sweater. read more

The sushi was clearly cut at least 1-2 days ago with sauce that had developed film from being left in a fridge. I ate about three pieces of sushi before feeling sick.
