The reason I'm rating with a 3 star is because both teriyaki combos I ordered were missing the miso soup which the menu claims it includes. I came back to sushi sumo after finding out Kula had a 1 and a half hour wait just 45minutes after they opened. Sushi sumo had been open for 2 hours so i decided to come in and give them another shot. My last experience was at night where the crowd was much more wild and alive. During lunch, you just had people who wanted a quick bite of sushi and maybe a morning pick me up drink. The conveyor belt had nothing but a couple dumplings and simple california rolls on it. It took about 30minutes before they started filling up the belt (2 hours after they opened). It seemed like they were focused on making to go order rolls rather than the customers right in front of them. You can of course order rolls too, but that took nearly 20 minutes. The food was average, and the service was good. If you come to sushi sumo looking for sushi, i will say you'll get disappointed. Come here at night, and you'll see what this place is meant for in the crowded sushi market in gardena. read more

This place is great. The service and atmosphere is amazing. As soon as you walk in the entire staff greets you with an enthusiastic hello. The place was not fully filled and we're seated immediately. They do have a bar service with a rotating belt for the food, and its the popular seats in the house. Their menu is amazing. They have a variety of drinks, from wines, to their specialty soju, sake, and strawberry(favorite) and mango nigori. We had our food selections on paper. We had a little bit of everything, and we loved it. Recommend the fried gyoza as appetizers, popcorn lobster roll, and the baked eel roll (different name on menu). While there, someone was celebrating a birthday, and someone ordered a sake bomb, for both, they turned down the lights at the conveyor belt bar, turned on some flashing lights and perform a little routine. The birthday one was accompanied by the song and a dessert, the sake was a back and fourth sake! Bomb! with a finally of the customer pounding the table 3 times until the shot fell in the drink. I came on Valentine's Day and saw tht there were 5 parties ahead of us so I all I wanted to know was the wait time before writing my name on the waiting list. It was a Sunday night and I was looking for an open sushi spot with quality rolls and stumbled upon Sushi Sumo on yelp. Excitedly I found a couple rolls that seemed good, the Steve Roll and the Mexican Roll. Upon arrival, the placed was packed which made me feel confident in my decision to order there. They had a cute conveyer belt bar and the restaurant had tons of energy. I was looking forward to returning for in restaurant dining. After picking up my rolls and bringing my food home, I was disappointed to see that the Steve Roll which I was most excited about was unfinished with very thin tiny pieces of salmon. It was missing the onion and jalapeño garnish and roll sauce which without all of that made the roll very underwhelming and basic. There also wasn't any ginger or wasbi placed in the tray which I feel is normally customary. I tapered my expectations since it is a revolving sushi restaurant, but the plates off of the conveyer were small in portion and kind of pricy relative to their competition. The sushi was okay, which was disappointing. Ordered a 8pc lobster roll off of the recommendations and it was quite yummy though. If you go here, I'd say you'll get more bang for your buck ordering off of the menu. It is a small place so it has a cozy feel, but even then we were ignored quite a bit. They don't give you a full menu unless you ask for it. Also lipstick on my cup was a bit of a turn off. ^Sketchy Korean-operated sushi place with creative sushi rolls and randomly cut sashimi slices.^ With a 4.6 stars review on Google, I was down to try this sushi place out. Creative is the word I would use instead of ridiculous. I was at the sushi bar where I could clearly see how the chefs did the rolls. It was just freestyle with basically the same sauce and either tempura shrimp or salad dressing mixed imitation crab meat topped with different meat or avocado. As for the sauce, that's the most amazing part. I see how most sushi places in North America put Sriracha chili hot sauce, but the chef uses Chili oil (those chinese ones used as a dip for meat and dim sum, or korean ones used in noodle soup). This is not for asian or people who looks for quality/authentic Japanese cuisine. There are a lot of servers and one could still leave your bill hanging, assisting three other customers and forgetting about your bill. Unforgettable experience. Talk about a turn up! Fun place to come for any kind of occasion. I came here on a sat around 8ish and the place was packed!!! As you enter the restaurant there is the sushi bar that's a circle where people can sit around. They do offer separate tables on the side, but the two times I came it's been a lot more fun to sit at the sushi bar. Luckily there was two spots available for us on the main round table (sushi bar). They have different dishes coming around. I was to try a different few and everything was really good. when I came on the weekend, the cooks kept making new fresh items to put out. However, I also came during the week close to closing and they didn't so the same. We also ordered sake and beer, the cooks really look forward to taking a drink. I don't know if I should mention this but when I came on the weekend our cook was soused. So the more you give them to drink the more they bring out food. They also randomly take your picture and post it on their wall. And their wall is pretty much covered with their customer's pictures. It also happened to be someone's birthday and they kind of make a big show out of it, if you're into that kind of thing. Overall, I love coming here because of the environment. Staff is super friendly and like to joke around with their customers a lot. The food is also good, and they also offer other item besides what they put out. The price is also good.
