This was an amazing meal!

Great food options and prompt! Food coma worthy! Would definitely recommend to family and friends!

If you're craving comforting Japanese noodles in the South Bay, Marugame Udon is always a solid choice. I stopped by their Torrance location recently and was reminded why this place is so popular. The cafeteria-style setup keeps things moving quickly, but you still get freshly made udon that tastes like it came straight out of a cozy spot in Japan. You walk down the line, choose your udon, then load up on tempura and sides -- dangerous in the best way. We ordered the basic Kaka udon and the classic Nikutama (beef and soft-boiled egg) and the broth was rich, slightly sweet, and deeply savory without being too heavy. The udon noodles were thick, chewy, and perfectly cooked -- that ideal bouncy texture that's hard to find elsewhere. The onsen egg melted beautifully into the broth, making every bite extra silky. Pro tip: don't skip the tempura. The shrimp tempura was light and crispy, not greasy at all, and the vegetable options (especially the sweet potato) were just as good. I also love that you can customize your bowl with green onions, tempura flakes, and sauces at the toppings station. The restaurant itself is clean, bright, and casual -- great for a quick lunch, low-key dinner, or even a solo meal. It does get busy during peak hours, but the line moves efficiently. Overall: affordable, filling, and consistently delicious. If you're in Torrance and want quality udon without the fuss, this spot definitely hits the mark. I'll absolutely be back.

It was disappointing. We were second customer of the day @ 11:05. And the restaurant was filthy. Restrooms were very dirty like it hasn't been cleaned in ages. High chairs dirty, sticky with green onions and tempura flakes all over. Same with the chairs. Food scraps all over. How it is so dirty already if you just opened!? Food is mediocre. Udon noodle were too soft. Staff is rude with 0 personality. Rather go to real restaurant than this fast food joint. Never again. Yukkk

Came last week & the food has always been good at all locations I've been. I feel like the soup is warmer here which I really like! This location seems to not have as many fried side add-ons but still good. I would substitute the gyoza next time

Food - always a 10/10! Curry udon, beef udon, and the chicken katsu bowl are all so delicious! It was my first time trying the curry bowl and it was really good! Udons are always a 10/10 there. The calamasi iced tea is also very refreshing and good! Service- excellent service! The guy in the cashier noticed my chicken katsu bowl was kinda lacking some curry sauce, he went ahead and added some without me even asking. Very attentive and nice staff! Ambiance- lots of seating, lots of parking as well.

Love the creamy udon rich, flavorful, and comforting! Service is quick, and the ambiance is so nice and relaxing. They even have a mini park outside for kids to play I really love kid-friendly spots like this!

Holy moly, they opened one of my favorite udon spots in Torrance!!!

My daughter was feeling sick and I asked her if she wanted ramen or udon noodles, which is her favorite. She opted for udon and I was super stoked to find Marugame Udon located in Torrance. Like when did they open this new location? Found out they opened two years ago, so still fairly new. My first time experiencing Marugame Udon was at their original location in Waikiki, Hawaii. It's almost like an udon version of Chipotle. Lol. We ordered our food online for pick up and it was ready quicker than anticipated. Love this option as it's super convenient ordered our food for pick up at 5:15 PM and it was ready at 5:05 PM. Arrived at the location, which is located in the Hannam Chain Supermarket Plaza in the corner. The spot was spacious and very clean. Typically, you can go up to the counter and order: 1. Choose your noodles. 2. Choose your tempura. 3. Choose your drink. 4. Pay at the cashier. 5. Customize your toppings. 6. Enjoy. Our order was ready at the takeout pick up area next to the cashier. There is also an area to grab utensils and sauces/toppings. The takeout containers kept the noodles separate from the broth, so the noodles were not soggy. Smart. I will say there was minimal beef broth, and curry sauce and wish there was a little bit more. My daughter ordered the beef udon which was quite delicious. The caramelized onions added a nice hint of sweetness to be udon dish. I got the curry udon and added fresh vegetables to my order and as usual the curry was tasty but didn't have enough sauce. I actually ended up adding some chicken broth to lighten the curry sauce and it was perfect. All in all, the udon noodles are always fresh and the flavors are done well. Love me some Marugame Udon!

Today was a cold rainy day... what better place to grab a late afternoon after Christmas lunch! Marugame Udon is my go to for udon and tempura and their chicken teriyaki katsu bowl is awesome too! In particular I like the beef dashi udon and and of the rice bowls. Noodles are made fresh in house! Quick and friendly service, just keep in mind when you add tempura extras, the costs add up fairly quick.

Sweet beef Udon Regular w squid/shrimp/Tamagoyaki

Marugame always hits the spot if you're craving soup (esp after a climbing sesh just 5 min away). Around 1:30pm on a Sunday tho, it was busy! All the tables were taken, but luckily were able to snag a table for 5. The line was probably like 8 parties in deep, but it goes fast because they have an efficient system (similar to a factory line lol). Essentially the first step is to order what udon soup you'd like, what size, and if you want all the complimentary toppings (tempura flakes, green onions) or want to add any (spice ball, egg, etc). Then the tempura sides are self serve and they charge you at the end. -Beef, regular ($11.65): I'm actually not a big fan of the meat bc it's sweeter than I would like. I would just get the regular Kake next time Tempura squid has a slight chew to it, and the shrimp is fresh tasting. Dipped in the warm tempura sauce is perf! - BK, large ($7.29): Simple and tasty. Chicken Tempura is nothin special imo. My only gripe is that at this time, they're slow to stock on their tempura. There was only one or two of the ones that I wanted: squid, shrimp, tamago, and chicken. There wasn't any croquettes left tho. There are signs that state to let them know if what we wanted isn't out, but they were so busy.

My favorite place in the South Bay to get some good food. I never feel to bloated after eating here! I love the cafeteria set up as it makes getting your food the smooth and fast. You can never go wrong coming and enjoying a nice bowl of udon no matter the weather!

Marugame Udon in Torrance is a must-try for udon lovers! Freshly made udon noodles are chewy and delicious Variety of broths and toppings, including my fave Nikutama with beef and onsen egg Tempura is crispy and flavorful, Service is friendly and fast, even during busy hours Atmosphere is cozy with indoor and outdoor seating, plus a small playground for kids Prices are reasonable, though some customers find them a bit pricey I'd give Marugame Udon 5/5 stars -

Katsu Bowl on a dirty tray with semi raw egg whites....
Jennifer P.

This is probably the worst Marugame ive been to. Probably the dirtiest... We stopped by around 730 on a Sunday so maybe its a Sunday closing so they just wanted to get home. The lady who made our bowls was super friendly and nice. She was quick and we were out the line. However, the tables were absolutely disgusting and covered with liquid and food and our tray was probably NOT cleaned because we found egg whites when we didn't order eggs. Do I want to know how long the egg whites were sitting there? Probably not. There were a lot of staff working just literally standing in one spot and zoning out. Felt like they were getting ready to close for the day. The food itself was good, same as other locations. Parking is plenty. Located in a plaza. Nonetheless... Probably one of the dirtiest restaurant ive been to... NEVER again at this location. Really unsavory.

Stopped by on a weekend for early dinner. For those not familiar with Marugame Udon, its a Japanese chain with locations in Japan, hawaii other locations. Super popular in Honolulu. I love their concept. Its fresh made Udon Noodles. You pick your broth & toppings or select from their signature styles. Although noodles are not hand made, they are fresh made by machine then combined with the broth to serve. I tried the Curry Nikutama Sanuki style. It was delicious. Curry was mild, not bad at all. Fresh noodles, green onion and the boiled egg is the chefs kiss. Its walk-up counter with assembly line set up for personalization. No servers at table service. You order, pay and take your food. Like I said love the fast-and-fresh atomization. The Calamansi drink was delicious btw. Kind of random but yummy.

The setting was unexpected, a sushi bar with the majority of seating behind curtains, hidden away. Sitting down, I noticed many things that made this place special; from the step-by-step instructions to the free sides of marinated celery and a blend of picked ginger. The manu was brought out and was easy to follow. For a place tha specializes in tempura, they also seemed to have mastered soba and sushi. While not pictured, I got the Carlos Jewel Box, which is a mixture of squid, shrimp, and scallop tempura; salmon, tuna, and yellowtail sashimi; miso soup; and rice all for $20. Worth it in my opinion. The sushi was fresh, and the plating was marvelous. Soba can come hot or cold, and the miso soup featured mushrooms which I had never seen before! The service was attentive and kind, nothing to fault there. While slightly on the pricier side, I can see why with the sheer number of components on each dish, and the flavors they are able to achieve though it. Good job Carlos!

We ordered another round of the beef tongue cause it was just. that. good. The chicken thighs with the green onions were also good. I probably wouldn't order the meatballs again, not because they were bad but the other things were just soo much better.

Torihei is a small izakaya, and that intimacy is part of its charm. The compact dining room creates…read morethe kind of warm, personable atmosphere that a good neighborhood izakaya should have. Rather than feeling cramped, it feels welcoming and authentic - a place where the focus stays on good food, good drinks, and good company. Over several visits, these have become my favorite dishes: Cabbage Salad with Spicy Sauce - 4/5. Torihei offers two versions of its cabbage salad: one with a garlic sesame dressing and another with a spicy sauce. The garlic sesame version is fine, but the spicy sauce is the clear winner. It features crunchy garlic and chili oil that add texture and depth without overwhelming heat. I would have liked a little more acidity to brighten the dish, but it's still an excellent way to start the meal. Chopped Cucumber with Sesame Oil - 4.5/5. One of my favorite appetizers at Torihei. The cucumbers are smashed rather than neatly sliced, which gives the dish a rustic character and helps the dressing cling to every surface. The addition of tomatoes is a smart touch, contributing acidity and freshness. Combined with the flavorful sesame dressing, it becomes far more interesting than its humble ingredients suggest. Soboro-don - 3/5. This small rice bowl comes topped with ground chicken, a poached egg, and pickles on the side. The rice is cooked well, and the chicken itself is clearly of good quality. However, the ground chicken is surprisingly underseasoned and could use more salt or additional seasoning. Despite that flaw, it's still a comforting dish thanks to the well-prepared rice and silky egg. Beef Tongue Curry Rice - 4/5. Despite its name, this dish eats more like a stew than a traditional Japanese curry. Fortunately, it's very tasty. The sauce is rich and meaty with just a hint of curry spice. At the same time, the beef tongue contributes a buttery texture and luxurious richness. It's hearty, comforting, and one of the more memorable rice dishes on the menu. Beef Tongue Soup - 5/5. This is a clean, balanced soup that showcases restraint. The broth has enough meatiness to be satisfying without becoming heavy, letting other umami flavors come through. The beef tongue itself is tender and rich, making this an excellent side dish to accompany the restaurant's grilled offerings. Yaki Oni - 4.5/5. The grilled rice ball is exceptionally well executed. Though triangular rather than spherical, it achieves the ideal texture contrast: a lightly crunchy exterior with a soft, substantial interior. The surface develops a beautiful golden-brown crust without crossing into burnt territory. It's a simple dish done right and a perfect accompaniment to skewers. Grilled Squid - 3.5/5. The squid is succulent and tender rather than rubbery, which is often the challenge with grilled squid. The flavor is enjoyable, though I would have welcomed a bit more char and grill marks. Pork Belly and Chicken Thigh Yakitori - 3/5. These skewers are solid but not standout. Both were slightly drier than I prefer. The pork belly could benefit from more rendered fat and richness. At the same time, the chicken thigh would be more appealing with a juicier finish. Chicken Hearts and Beef Tongue Yakitori - 4/5. These are among the stronger skewers on the menu. Heavily exercised cuts tend to offer deeper flavor, and both deliver. The chicken hearts have a satisfying richness, while the beef tongue combines robust flavor with pleasant marbling. If you're ordering yakitori, these are better choices than some of the more conventional cuts. Meatball Yakitori - 4.5/5. This is deservedly one of Torihei's signature dishes. The exterior develops an excellent browning and a slight crust, while the interior remains tender, juicy, and intensely meaty. Chicken Kara-age - 3.5/5. The kara-age is good, but it falls just short of greatness. A crispier crust and juicier chicken would elevate it significantly. Still, it's a satisfying version of a classic izakaya staple. Fried Shishito Peppers - 3.5/5. These peppers are mild rather than spicy and develop a pleasant glistening texture when fried. Their slight fibrousness gives them character, making them a simple but enjoyable side dish. Creamy Annin Tofu - 5/5. Available either plain or with green tea syrup, both versions are excellent, though the green tea syrup is the better choice. The texture is closer to a delicate pudding than tofu, and the sweetness is restrained and balanced. It's a deceptively simple dessert that provides a satisfying and elegant finish to the meal. No izakaya experience is complete without alcohol, and Torihei delivers. The sake and shochu selections are solid, offering enough variety to complement the menu. Beer options are mostly limited to familiar Japanese labels, but they pair perfectly with the food. Combined with its cozy atmosphere and solid drink selection, Torihei is the kind of neighborhood izakaya that earns regulars for good reason.

Yakitori was for the most part $8 for a set of two. The quality was not worth the $4 per skewer. For skewers, we had gotten liver, heart, wing, chicken meatball, thigh with onion, chicken breast with plum. Also got the cucumber salad, fried chicken skin, and spicy karaage. The biggest complaint was that most of the skewers that didn't come with sauce were under salted and I would say it's pretty dry as well. The cucumber salad was bad because it was bitter in every piece I ate so I ended up not finishing it. The spicy karaage was an absolute no. I took one bite and didn't finish it. My boyfriend ate a small piece and the rest of the dish went untouched. When it came to ordering the finishing dish, I had called for service. The gentleman said brb he's going to grab his tablet... Only for him to come back to grab the table next to mine's order and left lol. I had to call for service again with someone else and ordered a grilled rice ball and the ramen. Grilled rice ball was a disappointment (not even surprised anymore). It was completely soft (probably too much sauce) so it wasn't crispy on the outside at all. The boyfriend enjoyed the ramen and I did try the broth and it was actually pretty good. Um, I guess the best part was the yuzu sour drink I had ordered and the broth from the ramen. I also ended up canceling my second dinner reservation for next time when the skewers came out. Never again.
