Large Cheese Katsu Tomatama Udon
Joy C.

This is our second time coming to this Marugame location (almost two years later!). The line went by quick, we came at the rush but the staff moved very efficiently through orders. We tried their new item the Cheese Katsu Tomatama udon. The broth was flavorful and thick; it had some sweetness with a kick of spice. The katsu was really crispy and felt freshly fried. The katsu is a pork katsu! The cheese is a cheese sauce mixed with egg. Definitely a more interesting udon dish -- felt reminiscent of a play on tomato and egg dish! We also got the curry nikutama udon which is a classic and my fave! Nothing unusual, the curry soup was thick and had lots flavor especially with the toppings (tempura flakes and green onion). They have a lot of beef in the large portion too! The gyudon was packed to the brim with rice and a lot of beef! They had the sauce on the side and asked us what we preferred. I'd rec getting it on the side in case you're not a fan then you can just not eat it! There's a ton of seating inside and outside! Would definitely recommend coming here and they have different seasonal menu items so always something new and fun to eat :)

On my way to an appointment this place caught my eye. I was famished so I decided to stop in. It was my first time here so I went with their most popular bowl, the Nikutama, loaded with braised beef, tenkasu, green onions, and a soft onsen egg. The noodles are thick, chewy, and clearly made fresh. Broth is clean and dashi-forward. Solid bowl. I also got a spam musubi. It was fine, but the spam-to-rice ratio was not enough in my option. The tempura add-on bar is genuinely a nice touch. Crab meat, cheese, sausage, gyoza, pumpkin, sweet potato, zucchini, potato croquette, chicken katsu, all ranging from about $1.99 to $4.99 per item. Lots of ways to build out your bowl. Service was fast and friendly, Japanese pop in the background, low-key atmosphere. It's a good spot. Not destination dining, but absolutely worth a stop if you're nearby and want something warm and fresh.

Came through on a sunny afternoon and this meal totally hit the spot. The food was awesome, decent portions of flavorful seasoned meat with udon, a perfectly soft-boiled egg, fresh green onions, and just the right spicy kick. The crispy tempura shrimp on the side was golden and addictive. Everything tasted fresh and satisfying. Service was quick and friendly. The outdoor patio vibe is super chill too, bright red chairs, plenty of seating, and nice open views. Perfect casual spot.

If you're craving comforting Japanese noodles in the South Bay, Marugame Udon is always a solid choice. I stopped by their Torrance location recently and was reminded why this place is so popular. The cafeteria-style setup keeps things moving quickly, but you still get freshly made udon that tastes like it came straight out of a cozy spot in Japan. You walk down the line, choose your udon, then load up on tempura and sides -- dangerous in the best way. We ordered the basic Kaka udon and the classic Nikutama (beef and soft-boiled egg) and the broth was rich, slightly sweet, and deeply savory without being too heavy. The udon noodles were thick, chewy, and perfectly cooked -- that ideal bouncy texture that's hard to find elsewhere. The onsen egg melted beautifully into the broth, making every bite extra silky. Pro tip: don't skip the tempura. The shrimp tempura was light and crispy, not greasy at all, and the vegetable options (especially the sweet potato) were just as good. I also love that you can customize your bowl with green onions, tempura flakes, and sauces at the toppings station. The restaurant itself is clean, bright, and casual -- great for a quick lunch, low-key dinner, or even a solo meal. It does get busy during peak hours, but the line moves efficiently. Overall: affordable, filling, and consistently delicious. If you're in Torrance and want quality udon without the fuss, this spot definitely hits the mark. I'll absolutely be back.

Came last week & the food has always been good at all locations I've been. I feel like the soup is warmer here which I really like! This location seems to not have as many fried side add-ons but still good. I would substitute the gyoza next time

Food - always a 10/10! Curry udon, beef udon, and the chicken katsu bowl are all so delicious! It was my first time trying the curry bowl and it was really good! Udons are always a 10/10 there. The calamasi iced tea is also very refreshing and good! Service- excellent service! The guy in the cashier noticed my chicken katsu bowl was kinda lacking some curry sauce, he went ahead and added some without me even asking. Very attentive and nice staff! Ambiance- lots of seating, lots of parking as well.

This was an amazing meal!

Love the creamy udon rich, flavorful, and comforting! Service is quick, and the ambiance is so nice and relaxing. They even have a mini park outside for kids to play I really love kid-friendly spots like this!

Holy moly, they opened one of my favorite udon spots in Torrance!!!

My daughter was feeling sick and I asked her if she wanted ramen or udon noodles, which is her favorite. She opted for udon and I was super stoked to find Marugame Udon located in Torrance. Like when did they open this new location? Found out they opened two years ago, so still fairly new. My first time experiencing Marugame Udon was at their original location in Waikiki, Hawaii. It's almost like an udon version of Chipotle. Lol. We ordered our food online for pick up and it was ready quicker than anticipated. Love this option as it's super convenient ordered our food for pick up at 5:15 PM and it was ready at 5:05 PM. Arrived at the location, which is located in the Hannam Chain Supermarket Plaza in the corner. The spot was spacious and very clean. Typically, you can go up to the counter and order: 1. Choose your noodles. 2. Choose your tempura. 3. Choose your drink. 4. Pay at the cashier. 5. Customize your toppings. 6. Enjoy. Our order was ready at the takeout pick up area next to the cashier. There is also an area to grab utensils and sauces/toppings. The takeout containers kept the noodles separate from the broth, so the noodles were not soggy. Smart. I will say there was minimal beef broth, and curry sauce and wish there was a little bit more. My daughter ordered the beef udon which was quite delicious. The caramelized onions added a nice hint of sweetness to be udon dish. I got the curry udon and added fresh vegetables to my order and as usual the curry was tasty but didn't have enough sauce. I actually ended up adding some chicken broth to lighten the curry sauce and it was perfect. All in all, the udon noodles are always fresh and the flavors are done well. Love me some Marugame Udon!

Sweet beef Udon Regular w squid/shrimp/Tamagoyaki

Marugame always hits the spot if you're craving soup (esp after a climbing sesh just 5 min away). Around 1:30pm on a Sunday tho, it was busy! All the tables were taken, but luckily were able to snag a table for 5. The line was probably like 8 parties in deep, but it goes fast because they have an efficient system (similar to a factory line lol). Essentially the first step is to order what udon soup you'd like, what size, and if you want all the complimentary toppings (tempura flakes, green onions) or want to add any (spice ball, egg, etc). Then the tempura sides are self serve and they charge you at the end. -Beef, regular ($11.65): I'm actually not a big fan of the meat bc it's sweeter than I would like. I would just get the regular Kake next time Tempura squid has a slight chew to it, and the shrimp is fresh tasting. Dipped in the warm tempura sauce is perf! - BK, large ($7.29): Simple and tasty. Chicken Tempura is nothin special imo. My only gripe is that at this time, they're slow to stock on their tempura. There was only one or two of the ones that I wanted: squid, shrimp, tamago, and chicken. There wasn't any croquettes left tho. There are signs that state to let them know if what we wanted isn't out, but they were so busy.

My favorite place in the South Bay to get some good food. I never feel to bloated after eating here! I love the cafeteria set up as it makes getting your food the smooth and fast. You can never go wrong coming and enjoying a nice bowl of udon no matter the weather!

It was disappointing. We were second customer of the day @ 11:05. And the restaurant was filthy. Restrooms were very dirty like it hasn't been cleaned in ages. High chairs dirty, sticky with green onions and tempura flakes all over. Same with the chairs. Food scraps all over. How it is so dirty already if you just opened!? Food is mediocre. Udon noodle were too soft. Staff is rude with 0 personality. Rather go to real restaurant than this fast food joint. Never again. Yukkk

Marugame Udon in Torrance is a must-try for udon lovers! Freshly made udon noodles are chewy and delicious Variety of broths and toppings, including my fave Nikutama with beef and onsen egg Tempura is crispy and flavorful, Service is friendly and fast, even during busy hours Atmosphere is cozy with indoor and outdoor seating, plus a small playground for kids Prices are reasonable, though some customers find them a bit pricey I'd give Marugame Udon 5/5 stars -

The first time I ate here, it took maybe 20-25 minutes for me to get my food. This time, I had my food in around 10 minutes. I was very impressed with this big decrease in wait time. This time I tried the new Hokkaido cream pasta, which tasted super fresh and made to order. The cream was warm and rich without feeling over the top like some other cream-based pasta sauces from Italian/American places. I liked the addition of spinach and mushrooms as well. The restaurant is in a food court with a few other options, and a decent amount of seating. It's also inside of a grocery store, so if you're with a picky group, everyone could theoretically order something different and eat together. I remember I was a little put off by the anime branding of the restaurant at first (it seemed a little childish to me) but Pasta Stories is really a solid wafu pasta place, and I love that they focus on different regional flavors of Japan. Prices are very affordable as well, with most pastas being around $15 and under.

I personally have tried the following: Hokkaido Cream Pasta (newest addition as of late) Fukuoka Mentaiko Butter Pasta Kyoto Matcha Cream Pasta (one of my favorite dishes here - pair with salmon for a strong, umami flavor profile) Iwate Triple Mushroom Pasta Okinawa Pork Ragu Spaghetti (THE number 1 pick, however was not on the menu when I visited last) Osaka American Wagyu Meat Sauce There is a strong attention to Japanese flavors fusing with traditional Italian pasta dishes and are all made with love and care. I always recommend this place to friends and family, I can't get enough of it!

Nice location close to the beach, plus plenty of things to do in the area. Started off with drinks, as one does with brunch. The best Mai Tai on the Island was an interesting take on a Mai Tai with a little mango added. Could have had a little more as it was hard to discern at times but still a tasty cocktail. Can't remember what the others ordered to drink, so my apologies, but they were also good. For food, we started with the Lobstah roll which was really nice, a good shift if lobster in each bite and crumbles of salt and vinegar chips on top for some crunch. Just something you wouldn't expect to see on the same plate but it worked. For entrees, we tried the egg crepe, breakfast sandwich and surfing that was like a dry ramen. The crepe was much different than your normal crepe, almost feeling like a quesadilla burrito combo, but was really good. The ramen, without the broth, was also very interesting and very good as well. The winner was the breakfast sandwich. A lot going on in it, and I'm typically not a sausage fan, but this was really tasty, no complaints from anyone at the table. I got the Chicken Katsu and Fried Chicken Combo, which came with salad, rice and mac salad. The Fried Chicken was seasoned and fried to perfection! So juicy too. The chicken katsu was a bit disappointing though. The chicken was pounded paper thin and the panko crust, although it was crispy and not too oily, separated from the chicken. The sides were pretty average. I heard they also have live music on the weekends and evenings, which is great in their spacious dining area.
