I've been ordering from Mr. H's Lunch Place, a great little Korean and Japanese restaurant, and it has quickly become a go-to spot for me. My usual order is the poke bowl, and the fish is always consistently fresh. They also have a really wide selection on the menu, including a lot of different sushi and roll options, so there is always something good to try. The restaurant itself is quite small with very few tables inside. Because of the limited seating, I've only ever done takeout or ordered through Uber Eats, but the food travels perfectly and the quality holds up. What keeps me coming back is the overall value. I've been wanting to stop in to Mr. H for a while now and my schedule finally opened up. This spot is open until 4 pm Monday through Thursday. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and stop in :) There is limited seating in this brightly lit spot so you might have to order "to go". I placed a phone order for a late lunch for my two brothers and I. My call went through easily and quickly and was quoted a 15 minute wait time. Super quick right! I got the salmon box, one brother order the chicken box, and my other brother ordered the chicken bowl. My brothers also ordered a spam musubi each and I ordered the kimchi and spicy tuna rolls to share. It was all so good! My brother let me try the chicken. Unlike other places that toss/coat the chicken in a teriyaki sauce I think Mr. H marinates their chicken and wow, does that make a difference. The boxes come with an order of California roll, spring mix salad, and a little shrimp tempura. And, as a surprise, we also received two bags of lifesaver gummies :D I'm so glad I finally got a chance to stop in and will definitely be picking up lunch from Mr. H more often. I came to Mr. H's on my lunch break and it was okay. The person at the front taking orders was kinda rude and didn't seem like they wanted to be there. They had a large selection of Asian dishes from soups to rice plates. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll and chicken katsu. It was just okay there was some taste to the chicken I just did not like maybe it was the oil or something. The roll was way better but it was just decent. For the two plates I think the total came out to $21 with a drink which is not bad at all but I just didn't enjoy it. There were a lot of people when I came in but they also had plenty of seating. I was craving Poke for lunch. I decided to do a quick google search and found this place nearby! I phoned ahead and placed an order. They told me it was about a 15-30 minute wait because they were running a bit behind on orders. I appreciated the transparency. I waited about 40 minutes before I drove down there. It's a small hole-in-the-wall. It can be easy to miss as well. You can park against the wall next to GiGi's or towards the back. When you go inside, it's fairly small with about 4 tables. I recommend taking your phone to-go. I paid $15 for my order of one spam musubi and a spicy tuna poke bowl. I am a big poke fan and really enjoyed this bowl. What makes it special is that they include both rice and salad on the bowl instead of having to choose either just rice or salad. They package the rice separately which has a nice touch. I love how they pile on the seaweed and avocado. They put the salad on the bottom of the bowl. The spam musubi was decent. Nothing too special. Passed by this little place by El Camino College a bunch of times and was curious to see what they served. Happy it popped up on my Door Dash so decided to try it out. The menu consists of Korean and Fusion type dishes. Some Japanese and some Asian. I know there are a lot of places like this in Hawaii, so curious to know if the owners are from Hawaii. I noticed the prices are very reasonable even on the delivery apps. Ordered the Beef Kimbap, Shrimp Tempura roll, and a spam Musubi. Any other place this would be $30+, with tip came out to be about $23. Not bad. Rolls were good and Spam musubi was decent but missing something and fell apart. This place used to be Wasabi Sushiya and is located across the street from El Camino College. There is plenty of parking in the back of the building and I don't believe you can park on the street. There menu spans from spam musubi, to different types of sushi rolls, to rice bowls, poke bowls, bibimbap, ramen, udon, and two different lunch box sets. At the time of this review prices range from $3 to $14! I got their Spicy Tuna Poke Bowl for $8 along with their Kimbap (6 pieces for $4). Their poke bowl came with lettuce, rice, ripe and yummy avocado, green seaweed salad and red ginger. The tuna was not cubed, but mashed with seasonings in it. I can't describe it actually, it was just spicy and good haha. Their bowls come with different sauces - I got the spicy mayo but I think there was also a ponzu one. If you like spice, this is for you. There's a nice balance in this bowl of fat, protein, carb, and flavor. I don't feel heavy after eating this and I believe the price is reasonable. The person taking your order will ask if you want shoyu, wasabi and ginger (I asked for all three) when you order the House Kimbap. This Kimbap has carrots, cucumber, danmuji (or takuan ;]), and eggs inside. There's a slight sweetness to it that I haven't tasted in other Kimbap around, but otherwise, its pretty standard. If you eat it together with the Poke though, it becomes really good. I could also see this being good with their Spicy Rice Cake meal (you dip it in the soup base!). Overall, it seems like the torch and taste of Wasabi Sushiya was passed on to someone who is invested in making good food while keeping food prices reasonable. This is probably the most popular place to get your lunch at from students and faculty at El Camino College. Every meeting I'm at around lunch time I see someone eating from Mr. H. I really love their spamasubi and their miso soup. It reminds me of my high school days when people would sell spamasubi from their backpacks. The place has a few tables and chairs to sit on if you are looking to dine in or wait for your food. Cool thing about their service too is they have a buzzer for when your food is ready. Starting this review while still waiting for food. It is super busy but the guy at the counter at least let's you know that your food will take about 15 minutes. Well our food was ready like in 12 minutes. This place is really busy but they are very efficient. The guy handles orders, grub hub, and takeouts. He also packs most of the orders. There is a nice Korean lady in the back that sometimes brings the orders out. I say Korean because she must be the master chef making all these awesome Korean dishes. I see one more Hispanic lady helping out on the back. The food was amazing and the prices are unbelievably affordable. Actually, it is a steal. The hours are Monday through Friday from 10:30 am to 4 pm. They definitely have the support of the students from El Camino college which is right across the street. This is a must try. Affordable and satisfying lunch meals. According to their Instagram (@MrHsLunchPlace), this spot is owned by the former employee of the previous restaurant, Wasabi Sushiya. While I never visited them when they were open, it does seem like many of the current menu items are returning from the previous incarnation. Unlike your basic Korean-owned sushi joints, I appreciate how Mr. H's offers a full-fledged Korean-Japanese fusion menu. Their bento boxes are a prime example -- along with protein (chicken teriyaki, beef bulgogi, or grilled salmon) and rice, it comes with California rolls and inari pieces, boiled mandu dumplings, egg pancake, and a noodle side (japchae or fried udon). They serve your standard sushi rolls but kimbap as well. And their poke is surprisingly good. I've been satisfied with my recent orders. The bento boxes and the combo poke bowl (salmon, ahi, spicy tuna), both $12, are excellent value for the amount of food you get -- obviously targeting the students at El Camino College across the street. Service has been prompt and polite, parking is easy to find in the back, and even their take-out containers show an attention to quality, being just a tad bit nicer than your usual containers. I came here two days in a row because the kids were taking swim lessons nearby and I needed a lunch on the go. I called it in ahead of time, and just picked it up. The place is small, with a few tables. I got the salmon poke bowl the first day, and the house bibimbap the second day. Poke bowl was amazing for the price. A full bowl of poke and toppings, and rice came in a separate smaller container. It was seasoned with sesame oil, and I didn't really need the sauce that also came with it. THE BEST BIBIMBAP! I come here often just for their bibimbap. I usually order the beef, but you also have a choice of chicken or tofu, or you could order it plain with no extra charge. The bibimbap here is always very fresh and delicious with a generous assortment of lightly sautéed colorful vegetables (e.g., julienned zucchini, carrots, spinach, wood ear mushrooms etc.) each vegetable individually arranged artistically around a mound of steamed rice topped with a fried egg and shredded seaweed and served with a sweet and spicy kochujang sauce on the side. I am definitely looking forward to trying their other dishes, but at this moment I am so much in love with their bibimbap. I could eat their bibimbap everyday!
