I made the mistake of ordering from this shop without checking Yelp reviews first... Was really craving some sushi and I have always enjoyed the sushi restaurant experience. However, COVID changed everything and I had to settle for takeout. Ordered via UberEats sooo I cannot comment on service or the restaurant ambiance itself. The food arrived on time and everything was nicely packaged. I ordered 5 rolls and everything arrived one bag. The bag felt really light so I became a bit skeptical that maybe they forgot something? Thankfully they did not. Unfortunately, the portions were just really small. I was expecting larger rolls, but everything was pretty tiny. Usually 5 rolls can feed 3 adults in my family, but this was definitely not enough... There are about 5 or 6 pieces per roll, and each piece is very small. Here's what I ordered: -Rock and Roll ($14): wrapped in soggy cucumber; a bit hard to pickup due to its size, but plenty of fish! only 5 pieces here. -Dynamite Roll ($14): my mom is a huge fan of scallop. everything is baked and covered in a ton of sauce. a bit sweet and sour but not too bad. -Spider Roll ($13): covered in sauce. no crunch flakes (advertised it would). definitely nothing special -Sexy Lady Roll ($14): we love a little spice! it has jalepenos and hot sauce and spicy tuna. definitely pretty good. this roll had 8 very small pieces -Crunch Roll ($11, but received as a free item because I spent $40+): pretty substandard... the crunch flakes are large and round. Tempura wasn't crunchy, but maybe because it was takeout? You can't really screw up this roll Probably will not return. I don't mind pricy sushi if the quality is justified. read more

If you're looking for expensive high quality sushi, this isn't the place BUT if you're looking for decently priced sushi that's still yummy and fast, this is your spot. The food here is affordable and taste pretty good. I'm a big sushi roll person but I also love a good deal. I ordered the $18 plate which lets you choose 2 items in addition to rice, salad and soup. I ordered the bbq beef and the Washington roll. The beef was good tasted like Korean bulgogi. The sushi was good as well but the fish wasn't as fresh as I'd hope but overall I'd give it a 7/10. My dad recently came to upgrade his phone at Verizon and told us about this sushi place he passed by and wanted to try. As a big sushi fan, I couldn't resist, and I'm so glad we came! There are a lot of sushi restaurants in OC, but Sushi Taka is definitely one of the better ones. They're doing limited dine-in; I think there are only about five tables that they are seating people at, but we were the only ones dining in at the time. There were a good amount of people who came in to pick up orders though. We felt really safe and taken care of during our meal, and the waiter was definitely taking the right precautions. We got two Taka Plates, the Newport Beach roll, and the Tempura Udon. Everything was so solid and delicious. I really liked the Newport Beach roll, and the Salmon Teriyaki in the Taka Plate might be the best salmon I've ever had. The texture was exquisite, as it had a crunch but also melted in your mouth. Huntington Beach Roll Sexy Lady Roll Both are very similar and have great taste to both. I'm a huge fan of Yellowtail as you can see. Both explosive with flavor and decent spice. It's not really that spicy to be honest. It's never too crowded in there with plenty of seating anyway. Pricing: It's pretty fair overall I think. The quality of the fish I think is good. I was a little disappointed in the price of the freshly chopped wasabi. It's a small container and it cost three dollars which I think is way too much especially compared to other spots. Yes, yes, yes. Such a win. I ordered two rolls (through Uber Eats) because I didn't know how big the rolls would be, and I didn't want to risk hating the roll and then being left food-less. I ordered the spicy tuna roll and the crunch roll. The spicy tuna was amazing, and very generous portion size considering it was just a basic roll. I always order extra wasabi and spicy mayo because if it isn't hot it's not worth eating, and adding that to the spicy tuna made the roll perfect. I also went for the crunch roll with no avocado. They don't use the traditional crunchy flakes so I wasn't sure what to expect, but the alternative they use worked. Not quite as crunch as I personally like, but not bad at all. I as completely happy with the quality of fish and portion sizes and can't wait to order from here again. As a note, some restaurants do better than others with online orders- they gave me the spicy mayo and extra wasabi I requested, and knocked it out of the park. read more

I got the crunch roll and baked salmon roll and they were so good! The baked salmon roll just melts in your mouth, and the crunchy bits on top of the crunch roll is really good. This place is definitely a cut above your average sushi! I was excited to try it since it was "soft open" and I love catching new places, but I also wasn't expecting a lot from a sushi place in a shopping center in Irvine. I gotta say, they did a great job! They use fresh ingredients and lots of fish, and the prices are fair. A great value! The menu is along the lines of what you'd expect with a good selection of nigiri and rolls, along with some options for people who aren't feeling sushi, like chicken katsu. I decided to go with one baked (dynamite) and one "special" (Newport Beach) roll, and I think getting their rolls is probably the best decision! Their rolls are large, and they don't skimp on the "good stuff" either - there's lots of fish and crab in them. The scallops they used in the dynamite were delicious, and the sauce was perfect and not overwhelming. It was also overflowing with filling. I was a little nervous about the Newport Beach since I don't like cilantro. Luckily, their pico didn't have much in it, and it made for a wonderful mixture with the roll. Usually if I only get 2 rolls, I leave a sushi place hungry. Not true here; I was full up. The main reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that this really is more of a quick sushi place, not a fancy sushi place. But even so, a lot of times, that's exactly what you need! We can't all be eating expensive Omakase every night. I'd happily go back here, and I want to try the Huntington beach next. Sushi Taka is a great place to go. It seemed like a good place to go for lunch, as it started to fill very quickly right around noon. We ordered three rolls: * Hot Lady (spicy tuna + albacore, seared tuna, jalapeño) * Ya Ya (spicy tuna + albacore, cilantro, jalapeño) * Volcano (baked California roll with salmon, spicy tuna, and scallop) Hot Lady was my favorite. I was impressed with the spicy tuna. I feel like most places add so much spicy mayo that it takes away from the tuna. Sushi Taka did not do that. I do wish they had spicy salmon though. The Ya Ya was very similar. It even tasted similar. The Volcano ended up being sweeter than I was hoping for. Normally would leave a positive review because I believe in supporting local businesses; however, my experience was less than positive. Have been here twice before today's visit. Ordered a customized poke bowl over the phone but it wasn't made to fit my order. It was missing some avocado, which would be fine if they ran out, however they did not inform me about that (which was a big bummer). Also, I ordered the bowl with the ponzu sauce. It was extremely sour and practically inedible. Was a disappointment since (1) I was craving some poke, and (2) I have advocated for this place by recommending it to my friends. Tips: 1) Make sure you check your food before you leave the restaurant. (It shouldn't be the customer's job but at the same time people can make mistakes) 2) The ponzu sauce can easily overwhelm the dish, so maybe ask for a lighter version. 3) Instead of ordering for pickup or delivery through GrubHub; call in advance since all the sales made over the phone or in person goes directly back to the restaurant. I will not be going back because the cashier (middle aged Asian lady) was rude and disrespectful to me when I changed my mind about something small. She made a huge deal about it and did not apologize for her harsh behavior. On top of that, the food is truly pricy for its average quality. I have found the same quality food for a lesser price AND with a better customer service at other places! I simply don't think they appreciate the business of their customers as the staff is cold and unwelcoming. I once even found hair in my poke bowl. I hate to give a bad review but our take out order was unacceptable yesterday. We get home and the salmon my mom got was WAY to salty. My chicken was more fat than chicken. The girl handling takeout orders ignored us when we first walked up and was rude. We've come here two times before and the food and service were excellent. Sorry, but I paid $2 for extra Salmon scoop along with 3 scoops of protein including Salmon, Albacore and spicy Tuna, the scoops were so tiny about the size of my fingernail cubed. I literally counted about 8 pieces of each fish on 3/4 bowl of rice. I had picked it up to go during my lunch break so I couldn't return it and just took my losses but I WONT BE RETURNING.!
