Long Story Short: Very typical sushi; you're not missing out on anything too special. Don't have the miso soup, it tasted like soap water!! Long Story: We came here for lunch on a Friday and had the all you can eat. There was only one other group besides us, so service was quick and relatively attentive. We ordered tempura and shumai from the kitchen. The tempura was fine, and the shumai was good, but it was fully deep fried, whereas normal shumai is usually steamed or pan fried. From the sushi menu, we got a couple special rolls along with some sashimi. The sushi was very very typical, nothing too special. I also ordered a miso soup, and while I love miso soup, this was probably the worst miso soup I've had, which says something because I've even had those microwave powdered versions. It really tasted like soap water. It's nice that they have a parking lot though because otherwise we would have to pay for street parking. We didn't have a bad experience, but really it was nothing special. read more

I like sushi time a lot. Not my go to place in the area, but they have good sushi for awesome deals. My friends and I went the other day for their lunch special and I got two rolls (shrimp avocado and spicy crab, a soup, and a salad for only $8. If you want three rolls, they have a deal for only $10, which is awesome. There is a $10 minimum when paying with a card though so just be aware because it is not written anywhere and the waitress was kind of rude when my friend and I didn't have cash. I thought I was getting a great deal when I ordered lunch from here.... thought wrong. I should have known better. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box.... where to begin. The chicken was literally fried and then dunked in sauce it was so clear it wasn't cooked in it. The vegetables where still raw basically, the spring roll was mushy inside and pretty gross. The rolls were pretty good, although they get packed in the same box/tray as the hot food so it got hot rather quickly which was disappointing. I wish they just put it in a separate container. The soup was decent! I feel like they should just serve less components in the bento box and improve the quality of heat was in there in my opinion. 2 stars bc it was at least somewhat edible and it was affordable read more

This review is strictly based on service and not the food. My family orders from here at least 2 times a month...delivering to Kenilworth. Today, we call to place a delivery and the woman on the phone says "no not today" , in regards to delivering to Kenilworth. My sister proceeded to say "just today... is there a reason?", but could not seem to get a straight answer. She then heard someone in the background tell the woman " tell them not today and say good bye" .... like WHAT?!?! Totally strange. She told them this was not good business especially because of the fact that they couldn't give a reason. For AYCE sushi fans, this is a run of the mill place serving the usual fare that other similar establishments serve. If you have a craving for AYCE sushi and live nearby Cranford, take a jog over there. If you're a distance away, find somewhere closer. They're most likely serving the same stuff anyway. read more

We frequent this establishment often, but I don't understand the charge to take home food you already payed for and can't finish . It's like punishment and stealing . It's not like your selling the food when you leave . We had 5 people and ordered a nice amount of food however , we needed to bring the rest home . They forgot three salads and got annoyed when you asked for water or a fork. So I ask anyone , it's usually a 6.00 charge to being home what you don't finish , this time they charged us 20.00. My husband and I used to eat here every week. When they first opened because we felt the ayce sushi was a good deal. The service was never great but it got worse and worse over time. It is also exceptionally slow, I understand waiting a while on a busy night but the staff will literally leave you sitting at your table for an hour with no update, apology or acknowledgement of you. Once the food came out there were usually many items missing. They ran out of yellowtail on 3 different occasions and did not tell us until 40 min after we ordered! When my husband and I finally complained they magically brought out a plate of yellowtail! Wtf! What happened to being OUT. Still we powered through bc like I said we liked the deal and the sushi was decent. After awhile there were just too many problems with the service even on days when they were slow. We now get AYCE at Chens 22 where the service is great and the sushi seems fresher as well. read more

We love this place. Everything is clean and fresh. The staffs are friendly. The price is right. You just can't go wrong with sushi buffet plus with NO TIME LIMIT!!!!! Some sushi buffet have like a 1 1/2 time limit. Not this place. I never feel rushed to eat, I do leave with a full satisfied tummy. I enjoy the music, the flat screen, clean huge restroom, the price and the ambiance. The space is perfect not too crowded. The dessert is delicious; the green tea and red bean ice cream and fried banana is a must try!!! You can BYOB like wine or beer. There's ample parking. They have sushi buffet or full menu order. We consistently come to Sushi Time 898 for our family celebrations. The last one however, we weren't able to advise them that our large party of 15 is coming for dinner. They were naturally unprepared, at the same time, inexplicably aloof to the entire party. Our all-you-can-eat orders have at least a 20 minute wait period that we weren't even able to maximize our time spent there. In the two hours that we were at Sushi Time, we were only able to order twice from the all-you-can-eat menu. The menu items were also unceremoniously delivered late. Each follow up was met with a snappy comeback that it's a busy night. It almost sounded like we had to wait and be put on last priority because we didn't advise that we would come on that evening. Still, the ratings are 3/5. There are more instances when their service was good. Do not expect the fish to be sliced pristinely. The all-you-can-eat sashimi are cut in almost 1/2 inch cubes that for them qualifies as a regular serving. The rolls, when ordered for pick up, can be sloppily done. Just advice them that you want the rolls in separate containers as they have the tendency to pack them all in one, making it impossible to pick from. Advise them aptly of any allergies, because only then will they take extra precaution in making your food. In spite of their horrendous service in our last visit, I can't say I won't be back because to be honest, it's the closest all-you-can-eat made-to-order sushi restos in our area. read more

I've been wanting to do sushi with my meetup group, but wasn't sure about the quality of this newly opened restaurant. So I ate here for Sunday lunch and went for their all you can eat. They give you this piece of paper, not the menu, that you check off with a pencil to place your order. It's divided into Sashimi, Sushi, Soups, and Salads. Very good variety on the fish available. 1. sheet 1: checked off several sashimi, hot & sour soup, and seaweed salad. The sashimi was pretty fresh. The squid sashimi came stir fried and the sauce they used made it taste really good. I enjoyed the seaweed salad. The items came slowly though, one by one until all delivered (There were 3 people here including me). The female waitress asked me if I needed another order sheet after I was done 2. sheet 2: checked off several sashimi items, a sushi roll, and miso soup. The sushi roll was ok, the ingredients were fresh but the rice lacked nice rice vinegar flavors. The miso soup tasted good. But by this point I noticed something, I wasn't getting the sashimi pieces I checked off. No squid, no red clam I checked off, and no explanation. They gave me this thing filled with rice although I didn't order it. When I was finished with these few items, the waitress came, I got a look, "um, done or need another sheet?" Well, considered I didn't get everything I ordered, I asked for another sheet. 3. sheet 3: checked off several sashimi items, handed the order to the waitress. I was given 5 pieces although I clearly checked off more. Also got cheaper ingredient substitutes: fake crab stick, uni, and tuna although I didn't order these. I also noticed that the sushi chefs were talking to someone that looks like the manager and they were looking over at me. Ok, looks like I out-ate my all you can eat welcome. I ate everything I ordered and did not waste any food. By the time I left I wasn't hungry anymore but not stuffed either. This restaurant clearly offered all you can eat with their grand opening to attract customers. But it seems they weren't quite willing to deliver on that. I'm a small Asian chick, what are you going to do when big tall hungry customers come in for the all you can eat deal? Sadly I won't be recommending this place to others despite the fresh ingredients; I get really embarrassed when I take friends to restaurants I recommended and they get bad service. read more

This sushi is not the best in the area, but it's the best cheap sushi in the area. The buffet is a great deal, it's all you can eat for around 20 bucks. And you can get just about anything on the menu, not just sushi. Special rolls as well! The spicy rolls are not spicy at all, and the wasabi is incredibly weak. I had to put globs of it on every piece just to have a little spice. Luckily, there is a good fish-to-rice ratio in the rolls. Avoid the filet mignon roll. It's a shrimp tempura roll with pieces of steak on top. The steak was chewy and undercooked. Tasted terrible. Avoid it at all costs. The pink lady roll is very good, a spicy tuna roll topped with slices of tuna, salmon, and avocado. I like that one a lot. read more

My wife and I, we love this place! Nice interior, great service and a lot of sushi. We celebrated our anniversary here with the "All You Can Eat" option. For just 20$ per person we were full of sushi. They do not have alcohol, so you can bring your favorite wine from the nearest shop (right across the plaza). Their Sushi are amazing. I used to come here often bc I could walk here on my lunch break. I was never too impressed / stuck to the more simple rolls, but it was convenient. I've eaten a lot of sushi at a lot of different restaurants over the years. I personally feel that you can judge the quality of a sushi place by their basic rolls. If those are good, I move on to "special" rolls. Unfortunately, I was in a rush a couple days ago but really wanted take out sushi. I stopped here due to convenience factor and ordered two special rolls for lunch, despite the fact that I never found this place too impressive. By that evening I developed a fever, which soon turned into really bad food poisoning. Very solid sushi. Just moved to the area yesterday and after a laborious afternoon of unloading a uhaul decided to give it a try. Was very pleasantly surprised by the quality for the money. My girlfriend and I had a go to sushi place back in Arlington, VA where we moved from and it was consistently $10 more than we payed last night at 898 and we came away with more food and higher quality. Just awful Service: We had no one assigned to our table and missed two of the things we ordered. We were doing all you can eat so you literally write down your order on a piece of paper. It was a Saturday night and the place was empty so no excuse for missing an order. Food: The sushi was miserable. The "spicy" tuna had no taste other than a strong metallic taste. The avocado on top was not a thin slice of fresh avocado it was a chunk of overripe avocado that overwhelmed the sushi. If I'm sick tonight I won't be surprised. Visited Sushi time for their ALL YOU CAN EAT, which is great. Only $25. The staff and decor is nice, has somewhat of an upscale look to it. We enjoyed the ambiance as well. What's great about this place is that you can bring your own wine. I came with a party of 4 and had almost all of the rolls. The environment is neat and clean, and the decor is very nice. It is quiet, so it's a good place to hold a conversation. We went for the buffet option, which amounted to about $21 per person. The food, needless to say, was amazing! I really enjoyed the Crabmeat (Kani) Salad and Crabmeat Tempura. I was a tad shocked when I got the Crispy Calamari, for the portion was abnormally small. The sushi was the only semi good thing. The rest of the food was horrible. My wife got a salmon bento box and it came with shrimp tempura that was cold on the inside and seemed like it had been out for hours. My father also got a regular dish and it was not good. The sushi is the only thing to come for but the service is HORRIBLE. Heaven forbid we even asked for water, every single thing felt like it was a burden. Will not be going back.
