Came to check out this place and was delightfully surprised. Ordered a sushi and sashimi combo lunch special. On their menu on the wall, it says it comes with 5pc sashimi, 3pc nigiri, and 3pc california maki. I was hesitant to get this because I was pretty hungry, but really wanted to get some sashimi. The combo came with a miso soup and salad as well. After I ordered at the cashier, I probably waited only 5 minutes or less and my order was ready. Staff was super friendly and the wait was super quick. When I opened my box at home, I was surprised how big the lunchbox was. It didn't come with just 5 pieces of sashimi as I was expecting, it came with about 11 pieces! There were 5 different types though. There were 3 pieces of nigiri and 4 pieces of california rolls. Every piece of sashimi was SO good. My only (TINY) complaint if I had to think of something was that the salmon sashimi (my favorite kind of sashimi) was pretty thin. They did roll those up with some cucumber, so it looked pretty fancy. I wish there was more of it or thicker pieces of salmon, but the rest of the meal totally made up for it. The fish was good, fresh, and tasty. The soup and salad were excellent as well. The dressing of the salad was perfect and the soup wasn't a watered down miso soup that I've had at some places. As promised, here is the update for the new Sushi To Go 36. Right off the bat, you may have noticed the "36" that has been added to the name. Normally, I would think this would mean a completely different restaurant on Yelp, but I will leave this here for now. This is a completely different Sushi To Go. You can basically disregard every review prior to March 1st 2025 when it reopened as Sushi To Go 36. Here is the low down on Palatine's newest sushi spot. Food: All the maki is different than previous. Flavors were good in all the maki I tried. Rice was properly seasoned. I was not a fan of the deep fried King Kong roll. The spicy tuna inside ended up getting very cooked and potato topping on top that is normally supposed to be fine strings as shown in their photo was thick pellets. They are using good quality Japanese soy (Yamasa) at the time of writing. Service: Being new owners of the restaurant, the small staff did seem very confused by their system, but luckily, this was not reflected in the food. I'm sure this will get better as time goes on. Everyone was very friendly, which always makes me happy to support an establishment. Price: While the prices are definitely not as good as they were under the previous ownership, they are fair for the maki. I think the nigiri is overpriced for takeout, with items such as salmon nigiri going up from $2.50 under previous ownership to $3.25/pc. I also found the kitchen dishes like Bulgogi and Donkatsu being on the high end for takeout at $19/ea. They have some decent lunch specials, and I hope they will introduce some other specials. The inside remains mostly unchanged from the previous ownership. It is just a takeout area, so you cannot eat inside. Overall, I am glad to see the restaurant reopen and wish the new owners the best of luck! read more

Great Service, Clean shop, I ordered the Yubu Lunch Box and OH WOW was it delicious very fairly priced! The miso was hot and delicious, cucumber salad was light and refreshing, the sushi tasted fresh and packed full of flavor to be honest I wasn't sure what I ordered but by the look of everything I knew I was in for an amazing lunch, I'm so excited to be walking distance to this location the only downside I have to say is that I am upset I didn't try it sooner definitely going to be a battle not going there everyday, 5 out of 5 Stars HIGHLY RECOMMEND read more

A great place for well, to go sushi. Inside, it's somewhat small, with several chairs to sit and wait and a small refrigerator with drinks you can purchase, to wash down some of that delicious sushi. There is a menu up top and adjacent wall, where you can pick and order sushi at the register. Sushi takes about 10 to 15 minutes to prepare, and you're on your merry way. I went ahead and ordered the rainbow roll, spider roll, and tuna roll. Total was less than $30 and all the rolls were delicious and on point. Just enough ginger and wasabi with the order too, which some places skimp out on. Not here. I recommend, plenty of parking in the front. read more

I have been eating here for the last 16+ years. It is the most affordable, and fresh sushi you will find on the go. If you are a tuna fan - the Spicy Tuna Tempura is crispy, rich, and delicious. If you want something lighter I would highly recommend their Yami Tuna. Don't sleep on their spicy ramen either! There are a lot of comments on the staffing here and yes, it seems it is (usually) one woman who owns/cooks/takes orders at the restaurant. Expect it to take more than 5 mins. But they get a VERY low star for the following reasons 1) never answer the phones ... makes take out very hard (they have no dine in) 2) they have very little staff working there doing everything, so it takes them forever to make your get your order made (it frequently takes an hour) 3) their website hours are not correct, so you never know if they are open Basically ... if you are going to run a Take Out business, you need to answer the answer phone if you want people to place a Take Out order. I ordered a Spicy Sushi Combo which came with a Spicy Tuna Roll (6pcs) & nigiri sushi (4pcs) for a hair under $10. I split it with my wife, and was pleased with the taste, presentation, and speedy turnaround after placing my order in person (~5-10 minutes.) Both were rolled nicely, and they stayed intact. Neither roll was too big or too small. The fish was fresh, along with the crunchy crab. The avocado in the salmon was starting to turn a bit brown, but it was not old. Overall, this place is a small treasure! Really disappointing. Initially when I called to place my order there was a significant language barrier. When I arrived to pick up my order the salad was brown, so I declined that ama did not want that. When I got home to eat the avocado on my rainbow well roll was brown as well. Finally, the service was terrible. She was not friendly or appreciative. And it seemed annoyed that I did not want to eat the brown lettuce salad. Really very good for a "stop in and take to go". They make it all fresh when you order. There are places in Arlington Heights or Elk Grove where you can pick up what they pre-packaged that morning - yet here it is made fresh as you come in. They don't take very long - I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. They have a separate lunch menu where you can get rolls, miso soup, tempura, and a drink relatively cheaply. Actually... overall - even if you stop in for dinner, it is inexpensive. I assume since they don't have the overhead of waiting on you like a restaurant, they pass the savings on. I tried the Dancing Eel roll - which has shrimp tempura, eel, masago, avocado, eel sauce and spicy mayo. In addition, I took the advice of others and got Spicy Tuna - which really was spicy - of course I had soy/wasabi with it. They have quite a variety of specialty rolls such as Dancing Eel - as well as basic like Spicy Tuna. Excellent value for the price. read more

The idea of doggy bag style sushi made me cringe every time I passed this place for about a year and half, but ya know what? It was actually pretty darn good. Today, while in a snow storm and waiting for an incoming train carrying precious cargo that needed to be picked up by none other than myself, I decided to break down and give it a go since I'd already pretty much parked in front of the place and still had 30 minutes before the train got in. I walked in was greeted by a smiley young lady, eager to take my order. I only saw the giant menu behind the register and didn't realize that there was a second menu to my right with other specialty rolls that I'll be sure take part in next time. So anyway, because I only saw about half the menu, I got a pretty basic blend of rolls that were done really well, though at first glance I thought I'd be disappointed by the amount of rice vs fish in each roll, but the flavor translated differently than I'd played it out in my head and it was really something. The spicy tuna and spicy salmon were actually spicy, and I liked that it didn't taste overwhelmingly like mayo. The vegetable roll was decent and a nice variety of different vegetables, and wasn't just a California roll sans the crab and the avocado roll was sent from the gods. It was simple, but unbelievably creamy- above and beyond any other avocado roll I've ever had. The sushi was all budget friendly and the four rolls I ordered were just enough food for two people to enjoy for dinner, yet not be so stuffed that they blow their chunks when they follow up their sushi dinner with a hearty helping of cardio brought to them by the Insanity workout system and all in all it cost me $22 (that includes a tip) and only about 12 minutes. It's not the most artistic or high-end sushi, but for a carry-out sushi location it gets the job done and it does it pretty darn well. read more

Maki made fresh when you order! The best thing to do is order prior to picking up so you can grab & go. I ordered right there in person and it was less than 10 minutes for my rolls to be made. They have a pretty big menu full of nigiri, maki rolls, tempura, interesting side dishes, noodle meals and some Korean meals like bibimbap! I was a bit hesitant but I'm not sure what was causing my trepidation. I buy grab & go sushi from Mitsuwa & Tensuke all the time. Sushi To Go is closer to home for me so it makes a great alternative. When I first walked in, I thought I might have made a mistake. There was a lady at the counter who didn't greet me, so I stood there awkwardly. She stood there awkwardly. I opened my trap to order and things were a bit less awkward after that. When she gave me my order, she was sweet & nice so I'm still a bit confused by the lack of communication at the beginning of our encounter. My rolls were so filling that I had two for lunch and saved one to have with dinner. I found the proportions of rice to fish & fillings to be completely as expected, they didn't skimp on the non-rice bits at all. Break breakdown: Crunch Roll $5.50 - No ingredients were listed for this roll but I knew I wanted to try it. It turned out being my favorite of the bunch and so much so I would venture back simply to have this roll. Chopped up tuna, spicy tuna style minus the spice, with some roe & tempura crumbs that gave it that crunch. Philadelphia Roll $5.90 - Standard Philly roll, no cucumbers which made me smile. My least favorite of the bunch, something in this usual-go-to-roll-for-me just wasn't doing it for moi. Spicy Tuna Crunch Roll $6.99 - Biggest & fanciest of the bunch with extra spicy mayo on top. If you're into spice, I think this will totally satisfy you. I'm a weak sauce and my mouth was burning on fire. I went through a whole bottle of water just while downing this roll. That being said, I liked it! Fresh fish & good delivery. I'm definitely coming back for that awesome crunch roll! Maybe two. Everything i had so far was delicious and i have little doubt to no doubt in the rest of the menu. I would have added photos but was too busy destroying the food but next time i will. This is my second visit. I recomend the Charlie Roll 6pc large deep fried, the Tiger roll 7-8pc, as well as one of their lunch specials i tried on my first visit, the spicy tuna roll and shrimp tempura roll, which is served until 2pm. We try and order a new roll each time, but we typically do the orange maki, dragon or fire dragon, crazy roll, and always the spicy tuna or spicy tuna crunch. I love that they have soybean paper. Delicious. Fried components were excellent. All of the rolls had a legitimate spicy kick; most sushi rolls at other places don't! We are so glad we chose Sushi Togo over grocery store sushi. Tried to stop by at times before, and the reviews are correct....it's not always open when it's supposed to be. Finally got a roll today. They are a bit cheaper than nearby Asahi. But I do think Asahi is worth the extra money. There's only one woman working here. Phones, register, food prep. ONE PERSON. It's way to much for one person to handle and borderline abusive. I doubt she has the time to wash her hands in between handling cash and rolling the sushi.....just a thought. I hope she owns the place & is making this decision herself. If not & someone else is directing this I'm changing my review to one star. The fish was fresh but the rice was unusually bland, as if there was no rice wine vinegar in there at all. This is a nice little place in downtown Palatine. The name is exactly what it is. Sushi to go, there's no seating area. The sushi was surprisingly good and fresh and the prices are reasonable. The spicy shrimp, chicken tempura, spicy california and snow mountain rolls are all delicious and, in various combination's, make up the majority of my orders. The Spicy Ramen noodles were delicious, as well as the Vegetable Tempura. Come to think of it, I have yet to order something that I don't end up enjoying. :) Orders usually only take them 10-15 minutes, so call ahead and don't forget to ask what the specials are, since it seems like they always have something new that sounds (and tastes!) delicious!! read more

I can't say that it's the best sushi I've ever had but it's CERTAINLY do-able and it hit the spot (after a long sushi craving too!). I can't say that it's a hole-in-the wall because it's in a little strip mall next to a movie theater and a spa and I've definitely seen a lot of hole-in-wall-type restaurants and it's far from that. There's no chairs. Just simply a counter, a menu, and some employees. The fish was fresh and I ordered 6 different rolls ranging from 3.99 to 9.00 and it only came out to $41 with taxes. LOVE IT! They have some specialty rolls that you'd normally pay $14.00 for at a restaurant and only charge you $8-$9.00 (like a dragon roll). Definitely happy that I found this place. Even more happier that I live less than 10 minutes away from this place. Now I know where I'm getting my sushi party platters! read more
