While that may sound generous, the portion felt small for the price which came to around $48 after tax and tip. Highlights were the roe and fried amaebi head. The rest was just okay. Onto the rolls, the tomi special roll was our favorite. The other rolls were okay. The spider roll had some romaine lettuce inside which we weren't used to. MIX DON - 25.90 This rice bowl comes with tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. The fish quality was pretty fresh, especially the yellowtail which was thick and good. I give the sushi, nigiri specifically, here a 5/5. They give a good ratio of fish to rice. Many other places will give you a small cut of fish that barely, if not doesn't, filly cover the rice but Sushi Tomi has a great ratio. On top of that, the fish is suuuper soft. The salmon nigiri was my all time favorite and I would go back and order that single item. They also have fresh wasabi as an option which is not something you see often so if you haven't tried fresh wasabi, I'd highly recommend. The non-sushi items were just OK in my opinion. It's a cozy setup with the sushi bar and a row of tables on the LHS and a larger dining only area on the RHS. We got a table immediately and since this was the first time we needed extra time to review the menus, the waitress came by twice to check if we were ready to order while promptly bringing us requested glasses of water. I got the two item lunch with Saba Shioyaki and Tempura, Wifey got the Nabeyaki Udon soup which also came with a side of tempura. My Miso soup was brought quickly and this is the best I ever had, with lots of vegetables, tofu and some cubes of salmon. My Saba was really juicy and the tempura variety was very good. Came by for lunch the other day and it was a decent experience. Parking was available on the street or in private city-owned surface lots. Dining is indoors exclusively with the option of the dining room or bar. Arrived during the lunch rush and the wait for a table was ~15 minutes. All parties must be present before seated. Check out the special menu in front of the restaurant as well as upon entering! Started off with the Sushi Tomi roll with spicy tuna and it was tasty. Spicy tuna, avocado on the side along with some seared fish on the outside along with some raw onions and sauce on the plate! Moved on to the salmon kama special bento box which was huge and perfect for sharing. The salmon kama was huge and perfectly grilled. It came with a side of nicely fried vegetable tempura, fried gyozas (which seemed previously frozen) along with some chicken teriyaki (that was a touch dry) along with some poke of some sort. The huge bento came with a huge helping of white rice along with a miso soup with some salmon bones. Staff were quick to respond although the restaurant wasn't high end by any means. My friend and I ordered an array of dishes to share and as always the food was brought out promptly and executed to perfection This trip I really enjoyed the trying the yakionigiri (fried onigiri). It was filling, an umami bomb with crunchy texture If you're ever in MTV make sure to stop by... They only seat first come first serve so be prepared to wait..there are tons of boba and coffee shops around if you need to kill time before your name is called. This place has the best fresh sushi around. The owner doesn't play around with selling old fish. Everything he sells is fresh. You don't see a review that talks about getting sick from eating food from here. All the gentlemen behind the sushi bar are older Japanese gentlemen and take high pride in their work. I quite like this place! I guess I have been here two times now. Once many many eons ago, when I came here with a girlfriend and her mother. Sushi Tomi is the best as it gets when it comes to food, quality, and presentation. Service can be overwhelmed at times due to the restaurant's popularity, but they staff still tend to you and get dishes out in a reasonable time. The fried octopus has a great combination of textures from the crunchy and fried exterior and softer interior, which were always complementing each other. The coarse salt was also a nice touch, which added to the flavor. Highly recommended if you are an octopus or calamari fan. The beef tongue might sound off-putting to some, but this is actually a very solid dish, similar to lengua in Mexican cuisine. The season makes it taste life beef, rather than tongue, and the fresh scallions and lettuce really add some more crunch and moisture to help accentuate how soft the tongue really is. The eggplant appetizer was also nicely presented, topped with scallions and bonito flakes to add more texture and flavors. There is also some hint of ginger (could be something else) that makes the eggplant even more savory. The crab and octopus appetizers (two separate ones), were similar to a ceviche. You can tell this was expertly prepared and the high quality of fish did not have the stereotypical fish smell. Spinach appetizer was also solid and topped with bonito flakes. The subtle sauce and sesame seeds really added a subdued and savory taste that might attract those who normally do not like to eat greens. The soups are variations of miso, but with different toppings. We tried the standard miso, the mushroom miso, and clam miso. All were very good and depends on your preference. Last was the sushi. It was phenomenal. The sashimi, sushi, and rolls, were all excellent. A true testament was the quality ofSushi Tomi is their scallops. Usually scallops are frozen and not fresh from being thawed and frozen over and over again at some lower quality places. However, these scallops were not frozen and had a sweet smell meaning to me that they were bought recently from a reputable and high quality vendor. Every piece of sushi was excellent and this is a world class GEM hidden in Mountain View. I've eaten sushi in multiple countries in Asia and New York City, Seattle, and San Francisco. Playing catch-up on my reviews. Visited this place last month and it was the right move. It had been several years since I've eaten there and it was my loss. The sushi was as good as I remembered it. Everything was very fresh and prepared very well. As we all know, raw fish does not keep very long. The good folks at Sushi Tomi are always on pointe. Their sushi/sashimi are fresh as though it was caught that day. The chefs do a great job with presentation. Every piece is Yelp-able (is that a word?). Best of all, the food was delicious.
