Love this spot. My friends and I come here at least twice a month. The staff are all super sweet and the sushi is always good. I haven't had a sushi set that I haven't liked from here. They even do delivery! And it comes just as fresh as it would if you were dining in. I always bring my friends to Hanabi at least once if they haven't been here yet. This is our go-to place in Mountain View! I've been here more times than I can count on fingers and toes, as you can see by all the attached photos! The staff here is very friendly and efficient. We came here for the first time to meet some friends. Walking in we were greeted promptly and warmly. We were also seated right away. The restaurant is clean and welcoming. We had my 1 year old and I love how they have kids bento boxes. My daughter loved her chicken teriyaki. I ordered the 911 roll and 76 roll, both were really good! My husband got beef teriyaki, which he enjoyed. Our friends got some sashimi and a couple cooked rolls that I don't remember the name of. Wifey had the beef teriyaki and avocado roll and I had the Saba Shioyaki and Combo Tempura. The miso soup had good flavor and a few small cubes of tofu with kombu. My dainty mackerel filet was moist, tasty and boneless. My one shrimp tempura was hot and juicy with a crispy panko breading. The veggies were yam, carrot, zucchini and cauliflower. First, we surprised by the large number of items on the menu and felt it was just like a Japanese izakaya:) Crunch Salmon Mango - It was spicy than I expected, but mellowed and balanced by the mango, eel sauce and mayonnaise. Items were expired bordering on stale . The rolls looked nothing like the menu pictures and it seemed like someone just threw one or two items in the roll and shipped it out to me . This can't be Japanese owned there was zero attention to detail or concern for the clients health because the ingredients were old. Service was very fast, but at the cost of quality. Lion king was extremely oily and the fish tasted VERY fishy. Almost like the fish had been sitting out in the open all day.... Warrior roll was okay. But it's easy to mask taste when the roll has cream cheese. Can't complain. Dragon roll also tasted EXTREMELY fishy. A surprisingly nice sushi spot in a strip mall by Costco. You can tell they really tried to make their interior nice, the menu design modern and keep the bathroom nice and clean. I especially appreciate when sushi restaurants have pictures of all the special rolls on the menu as they do here. Tempura side - the fry seems hotter and faster than traditional tempura, and seems a bit heavier. I like the variety of veggies. Chicken katsu - again the style of the fry seems different than what I'm used to, but it was tasty and crispy, although we could have used more katsu sauce. Have been to Hanabi Sushi 3x now and each time the food doesn't disappoint. My favorite is the monster roll with the ahi tuna on top. But all of the rolls were delicious. My last trip, service was really slow during lunch, but it could have been because our table was kind of in the corner. Beside that, it was good! The fish was for the most part OK. The slices of fish are huge (if you like that). The only miss was the maguru (tuna), which was kinda chewy and not "melt in your mouth" as some of the other fish was. The star was the hamachi and sake. The hamachi Kama was perfect. Nicely grilled! 5/5 Best lion king roll I've had in a while. Balanced where it was not drenched in sauce. The taste of salmon came out. Rice quality wasn't sticky as most places but it didn't fall apart. So that's up to personal preference. It tasted like it was assembled right there whereas other places they really throw it together and bake it. 3.5/5 I also had the scallop roll which is the lion king but with scallop not salmon. This was. Not as great. So first it is over sauced. Not much to say except the roll was standard. A little charred I think due to height of the baked thing. The redeeming bit was the actual scallops on top. If you eat them solely damn, that was some good scallop. You taste scallop and the texture was really good. Unlike other places where you get clearly defrosted stuff which is fine, but mushy vs. This place it had good texture and flavor. But the actual roll /baked was not good. I will maybe try a scallop nigiri next time. Overall I will likely stop by at my next Costco run. Location is clean. Didn't use the restroom. This is a sushi / Korean mixed foods like the tofu soup in the traditional stoneware. Service was OK. I came on a Thursday night and there was an experienced waitress and a younger college age? So. Despite not being fully busy they were not super proactive to refill waters on a hot day. But when you flag them they are super on their feet and helpful. I chalk it up to inexperience rather than unprofessional. Some people may be annoyed. Speed that the food came out was OK. I came hungry. Not super hungry as that impacts ratings as well. [SIP Takeout Review] As one of the closest Japanese food places to where I'm at, and with an easy takeout order system, Hanabi Sushi is more than just that Japanese restaurant by Costco, but rather a go-to spot for those sushi cravings. Our house has three typical spots around here that we go to when we need some sushi in our lives, and we are glad Hanabi is one of them. The rolls are decently sized, and the rice is soft, making the sushi almost melt in your mouth. What is nice is that the specialty rolls are packed with flavor (my go-to is the Lion King baked roll) and the more traditional rolls, such as the rainbow roll has tender fish just the way we like it. Aside from sushi, the only other food I've had is the vegetable tempura, which is decent. For the average pricing around the area, it is pretty typical based on how much you get. The couple times I've ordered online and had takeout, the order was ready every time for when I got there, and it was super easy to go in, get food, and be on my way. I visited Hanabi Sushi for the first time with a couple friends last weekend and was pleasantly surprised with quality food and service! Service/ambiance: We sat in the corner of the restaurant but that didn't stop the waitress from making sure our waters were never empty and empty plates were cleared. All of the staff was very smiley which made the overall experience enjoyable. The inside of the restaurant was very clean, along with the bathroom. Food/menu: I loved how each item of the menu had an image + description and there was a wide variety of rolls to choose from. I could tell each roll was given detailed attention and the sushi chefs did not hold back on how much fish was actually in each roll! P.S. the salmon kama and seafood udon is a must. Everything was so fresh and you can tell the fish was top tier quality. Highly recommend the Albacore Sunrise, Crunch Salmon Mango, Boston, and Dragon rolls to name a few.
