Place was homey and quiet. No wait at all. All of the sushi rolls my family and I ordered were super tasty. Fish was all fresh. I highly recommend the Rainbow roll! We also got the sushi boat which we thought was pretty reasonably priced. Waitress was kind enough to give us a complimentary dessert. Sushi here is delicious, sushi chefs are top notch, the small funky space is unique and inviting... but I've had it with the owner/manager who is always there to check you out and take to-go orders. Here's why: I called in an order after asking if they would still accept my order at 10:45 when they close at 11. She said "yes, of course!" So I ordered my favorite rainbow roll and was told, "ten minutes." I walked to the restaurant and on my way she called me to tell me it was ready. I said I'm on my way now, be there in a few minutes. That was at 10:56- 2 minutes later at 10:58, she called again. I didn't answer because I was a block away from the restaurant. She proceeded to call me over and over, the phone was still ringing as I walked into the restaurant at 11:02. She was so mad that she couldn't even speak! She just stared at me as I asked for my to go order- not moving, not getting my food for me, just staring! Finally, she spoke and started to tell me that they are closed and that they close at 11 and that she needs to close the restaurant!! I looked at her and told her "well, it's 11 now and I'm here now to pick up my order." she was so disgusted with me and so angry that she wouldn't get me my food. I had to point to it and say is this my food and she was just silent as she rang me up. I left there at 11:04. Anyone who's ever worked in the restaurant business, successfully, knows that the end of the night ends when it ends, and sometimes it's a few minutes beyond your closing time and there is no reason in the freaking world to be rude to a customer because you're gonna have to give him the food anyway and they can either have a good experience or a crappy experience and never come back. It's called working with the public 101! Sushi Toni just lost my business. What a gem to find around the corner of our hotel. We were craving sushi and my husband found this gem via yelp reviews. We were the only ones when we walked in and it looks slightly hole in the wall but we are so glad we have it a try. We actually ended up coming here twice during our long weekend trip to SF and highly recommend for the quality of cuts, fast service and no frills menu. The first time we went for the sashimi boat and hand rolls of salmon and avocado and spicy tuna. We were blown away by the quality of the sashimi. Hands down the best salmon we've had... we liked it so much we put in another order of the salmon sashimi. The rest of the sashimi on the boat were fantastic.. the tuna was nice, the yellowtail was delicious, the kanpachi. Really great cuts. The boat came with miso soup and a salad with ginger dressing. The hand rolls were nice but would highly recommend the sashimi. We came back for dinner in our last day before our flight and went with sashimi order of salmon, scallops and tuna and the quality was still spot on and would rank them in that order. Came here with my friend for dinner on a Sunday night. I got the salmon teriyaki which came with mis soup, salad, tempura, California rolls, and white rice. Portions were generous and everything was fresh and tasty. Great quality for the price we paid and it wasn't too difficult to secure parking a few blocks away. No matter how good or bad this Japanese place is, I will always refer to it as That Japanese Place Next to the Nob Hill Theatre. Even though it's been closed for well over a year and I swear I never went there (...eyes gazing upward), it's still there, and behind those licked, I mean locked doors are presumably the ghostly echoes of a thousand moans. And here I was, next door looking for some motherland nourishment to tie me over. I was hungry on my virginal visit, so I was upset to find out they were out of the Hamachi Kama, so I just blurted our that I'd like the $12.50 Chicken Donburi. WOW! I never had worst sushi in my LIFE! I ordered $200 worth of sushi and we threw away 3/4th of it. It is literally on the trash can. The quality of fish they use was complete garbage and idk if they used perfume but it smelled like perfume. It was inedible. It was the worst sushi we ever had. If anyone has had good quality sushi, or even edible sushi, they would know that this place is AWFUL. I usually don't like to bash fellow Korean businesses but this was the worst we all had.
