They made us feel right at home, the hospitality and service was amazing. You can't go wrong with any roll here, they have a good selection of soju as well. 10/10, will always come back.

Place was homey and quiet. No wait at all. All of the sushi rolls my family and I ordered were super tasty. Fish was all fresh. I highly recommend the Rainbow roll! We also got the sushi boat which we thought was pretty reasonably priced. Waitress was kind enough to give us a complimentary dessert. I usually go to the Sunset or Richmond for Asian food but this is definitely one of the hidden gems in Downtown.

I ordered the shumai (crab meat and shrimp), got it fried cuz I was curious as to what that would be like, and they ended up looking like tater tots, with hushpuppy consistency, lol... tasted fine but the 6 pieces were very small like they shrunk when fried. Also got the lion king roll which comes with mozzarella cheese, giving it an interesting taste. I don't think the sushi and cheese combo is the best, but I like melted cheese on almost anything, so I thought it was decent... again, portion size was small. The restaurant was cozy and simple, staff was friendly, and my takeout order was ready within the 30-minute quoted wait time online. 4 stars for overall value and experience.

Chirashi was delicious. Tasty fresh fish, and pretty presentation. Friendly service. I'm glad I went there :)

This might be the best sushi I've ever had, considering everything. It's midnight and I get to eat sushi that's unique, all the flavors I enjoy, and literally so delicious. This is going on the list. All of the rolls I got (listed in the pic) were so delicious 10/10. I can never find sushi spots that have flavor combinations I really like and they nailed it. I'm obsessed.

Small, cozy sushi spot. Extremely attentive service with delicious, fresh rolls. Sushi rolls were also prepared quickly but it was also quiet in the restaurant when we were there. Our favorite was the cilantro roll and we had to order it again after trying it. Who knew cilantro could work so well in a roll. Loved the lime topping. Was excited for the bake volcano roll, but it was a little too saucy for our taste. Would come back again for the cilantro roll for sure.

What a gem to find around the corner of our hotel. We were craving sushi and my husband found this gem via yelp reviews. We were the only ones when we walked in and it looks slightly hole in the wall but we are so glad we have it a try. We actually ended up coming here twice during our long weekend trip to SF and highly recommend for the quality of cuts, fast service and no frills menu. The first time we went for the sashimi boat and hand rolls of salmon and avocado and spicy tuna. We were blown away by the quality of the sashimi. Hands down the best salmon we've had... we liked it so much we put in another order of the salmon sashimi. The rest of the sashimi on the boat were fantastic.. the tuna was nice, the yellowtail was delicious, the kanpachi. Really great cuts. The boat came with miso soup and a salad with ginger dressing. The hand rolls were nice but would highly recommend the sashimi. We came back for dinner in our last day before our flight and went with sashimi order of salmon, scallops and tuna and the quality was still spot on and would rank them in that order. Both times, had great service. Highly recommend checking this place out and not judging a book by its cover.

Not the best sushi I have had, but definitely great value for money. I really love that they are open late! Plus it's tough to find decent veg sushi options. And I only ordered from them so don't know about the ambience or service.

Pissed about the false advertising for prices. I called to place an order for to go and I was using the menu from their website, which you can see in the photos I posted. What's outrageous is that they lied about the prices and upcharged the hell out of the most mediocre and average sushi (which they only give 6-7 pieces rather than 8)! $20 for the most BASIC unagi roll? That's just a scam! Compare the prices from the menu to what I was charged on my receipt. This is just awful. Wouldn't recommend ever going to this trashy place. Even the inside looks horrible and sketchy too.

first time here and i looked around for a specials board! I guess i wasnt looking hard enough! It was in the back! I normally go tekka roll or hamachi roll with substitutions, but had to try two unique rolls that caught my eye! the double hamachi roll had it inside and the top and family affair roll that had regular tuna and white tuna which were both good! I guess i was ao hungry, I finished my rolls quick The price point was good and will definitely return to try other rolls thar caught my eye

So good!! Kind of a hole in the wall vibe but the freshest fish! Delicious and fun rolls (I love the cilantro roll!) and prices are decent. It's sooooo good! You can't go wrong. If you are in the neighborhood, give them a try!!!

Small place with very good sushi. Wife enjoyed the sashimi and I had the tempura which was very good as well. Staff was friendly and gave us a complimentary desert which my daughter really loves.

Takoyaki, lion king roll, dragon roll, Romeo & Juliet roll (best item).

Picked up a late night dinner around 10:30 PM after driving around the Marin Headlands :) Takoyaki: Delicious with a unique sauce, but there were only 4 pieces. Lion King Roll: Small roll, and cheese was not the best topper for it. Dragon Roll: Good but nothing special. Romeo & Juliet Roll: Really good, and the best of the 4 items we ordered :)

My friend and I didn't have a reservation since we thought a Thursday early dinner wouldn't be busy! We arrived just in time - there was a little wait when we arrived around 5pm, but there was a cancellation so we were able to get seated at the bar instead of the outdoor patio :) Everything we ordered was amazingggggg! I was quite impressed since it seemed more of a cocktail bar bite vibes. It is a bit pricy though, but I can't say my money spent was not worth it. I definitely want to come back and try their matcha drinks though. The only downside is the location since there's not much parking during the day.

The matcha itself was pretty strong and pronounced in flavor, which I enjoyed. The cream top was quite thick on top and didn't have any added sweetness so it was more of a textural element more than anything else. It also had some kinako powder on top which I thought was a nice touch! This was my first time getting to sit inside the restaurant and it had a nice broody/speakeasy vibe to it. There was also an outdoor patio that you could enjoy as well. I know that Shoji turns into a restaurant at night so I can definitely see how this would be a great spot for a date night. However, during the day, the space was even being used by customers as a meeting space/study space. I would be back again if I were in the area, but like most SF spots, parking was an absolute nightmare!

We went on a Monday night and were surprised that there was still over an hour wait, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation if you can. Thankfully, we were able to grab some drinks while we waited. The Yuzu Chu-Hi was probably my favorite drink of the night, it was light, refreshing, and easy to drink. For food, we started with the Teba No Karaage, which had a perfectly crispy exterior and juicy, flavorful meat. We also ordered the San Ten Mori, and the fish was very fresh. We especially enjoyed the yuzu wasabi that came with the dish, which added a nice kick and complemented the fish really well. We also tried the Chiizu Tori Katsu. The chicken itself was juicy, but I wished both the chicken and the cheese had a little more flavor. Most of the flavor came from the sauce on the side. I was also a bit disappointed by the snowy cabbage dressing, although that may just be because I'm used to the dressing being on the sweeter side. One thing that really stood out was the warm and welcoming service. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely come back to try the skewers next time.

We walked into a refined but welcoming space where the sushi counter is the main focus, and the meal unfolds course by course in front of us. There is a sense of calm throughout the room, allowing the attention to stay on the chefs, the ingredients, and the details behind each dish without the distraction of a busy dining room. The omakase experience balances traditional sushi with more creative touches. Each course brings something different, from fresh sashimi and nigiri to warmer dishes like chawan mushi that add depth to the progression of the meal. The sushi highlights the quality of the fish while incorporating thoughtful flavor combinations, with dishes like scallop and the dry-aged fish courses standing out for their texture and seasoning. The sake pairing fits naturally into the experience, adding another layer without overpowering the food, and the sommelier's selections complement the progression of flavors across the meal. What makes Kusakabe memorable is the craftsmanship and pacing of the meal. The chefs take time to explain each course, making the experience feel personal rather than rushed.
