This has been in our rotation for awhile. We do both dine in and take out though more of the latter. Tip: if you order both hot entrees and cold sushi for take out, request that they package them separately! One time they put it all in one plastic bag and tied it up tight and the sushi became unappetizingly warm. There's a good variety of items for everyone. The beef teriyaki has been tough the last few times, so there may have been some changes lately. Friendly enough service and relatively quick. read more

Came around 8:45pm-9pm for a late dinner after volunteering and there was a lot of seating available (surprisingly it did fill up with families near 9:30-10pm). Lots of nice wood tones and the bar seating allowed enough privacy for diners to eat while not staring directly at the chefs. Ordered the North Beach roll and a vegetable tempura appetizer. The appetizer was crispy, delicious, and a lot of different veggies. The North Beach roll came with a bonus mini tuna roll (one bite) and the roll was just the perfect portion for one person. Service was quick and the servers would check up on you. I did overhear that if you have a table of 5, that they request you make a reservation since they only have one table that can accommodate a group of that size. Cute sushi spot right off Little Italy! Was craving something fresh and this did not disappoint! We were seated immediately and service was 5/5 throughout the night. The restaurant closed around 9 but the waiters/waitresses were kind enough to let us stay even past then. There were many rolls to choose from, although most limited was in the salmon roll department. I'm giving two stars to be fair because the servers here are always very nice and cheery and I guess that counts for something... BUT THE FOOD. okay let's start here, when I first came here with my guy, we had a decent time, the sushi is nothing to write home about but it's a few blocks away from my place and it's just a nice eff it, junkfood place to go to when you want sushi but don't want to go across town for it (now I totally will, you can't mess with sushi). The first time we came the walu tasted a bit sour but we were ok with everything else. The second time? Awful. We had the sashimi combo deal and when it came, the tuna literally tasted rank, we both could not swallow it, it was that bad. Same with the hamachi, just an unbearable fishy nasty taste. Why would you send that out? We sent it back and they took the platter off our bill willingly but never again will I go to a meager sushi spot again, this is a lesson that unless you are a 4.5-5 star place I WILL NEVER EAT SUSHI FROM HERE OR A PLACE LIKE THIS AGAIN. Since then (this was this past Sunday) me and my guy have both had indigestion problems. So take this as a lesson guys that sushi needs to be sold at the highest quality. I don't mess around with old food ever and it was a shame that they served that with no qualms. Rating: 3.5 stars We came here as a group of 7 on a Saturday night at 6:30 PM. We made a reservation beforehand so we were able to be seated right away even though all of our group was not there yet. The restaurant has a bit of an antiquated appearance but was cozy. We were able to order items off of their happy hour the first half hour we were there. The rolls that came out were ok, very rice heavy and the quality of the items was hit very impressive. A lot of the rolls also had lettuce in it which is an interesting choice. However, they came out very quickly. We got an order of the croquettes which was quite oily and its flavor was light and nice though. Their vegetable tempura had a nice assortment of items but the breading was not the best. I also ordered a nabeyaki udon. The flavor of the broth was great. There was not the best assortment of items in the udon and the egg was topped in an interesting way. Though the food was not the best, their service was amazing. Our server was so bubbly and friendly and really came by to take care of us throughout the meal. All in all, though the food did not stand out, the service was truly stellar. read more

We arrived at 7pm on a Saturday night and were lucky enough to be seated instantly but there was a steady stream of patrons lining up as we ate so I would expect a wait typically. Food itself was pretty good. I ordered a spicy dragon roll. I wasn't too hungry so it was just enough but I could also see someone needing to order more to be full. Bf ordered the Higawari Teishoku set, which came with agedashi tofu, choice of gyoza or chawanmushi (egg custard), a grilled fish, rice, sashimi, and dessert. For all of this, the price was really good. The reason for 2 stars off though was that his set was missing the sashimi, rice, and dessert. We figured it would come as a second course but after taking our dishes away, the waitress simply just brought our check. We were confused and had to ask her about the items that we never received, which ended up involving a lot of back and forth and confusion on her part and waiting on ours. Then, after they finally brought the sashimi, we had to again remind her about the dessert, which ended up taking an additional 20 minutes to come out for some reason. I know they weren't churning the ice cream up back there so I have no clue why it took so long. We considered just leaving multiple times. It seemed like there were a lot of regulars eating there - always a good sign. I had the chirashi and the fish was very fresh and tasty. A salad and miso soup were included in my meal which I didn't expect. My wife had the bento box which had a generous portion of tempura which was light and crispy. It's probably one of the most generic Japanese dishes and yet something about their's is different. Something they've put in it really exudes umami and sets you up to enjoy the rest of the meal. My entree was the seafood dinner. What a great deal! Even after adding the $2 to upgrade the standard salad to a seaweed salad. There was so much food; I was stuffed (and I have an above average appetite). The sashimi had that perfect buttery texture, the roll was filling and tempura was tasty. We also went off menu by our waiter's suggestion and got a green dragon roll. Wow. I will definitely be ordering that again. My best description of the flavor is that it's like the Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos. The staff was also super friendly. Our waiter was cracking jokes whenever he came around. BFF and I came here for lunch last week and it was my first visit but her 4th or 5th time. The current owner is retiring and it's unclear if the rest of the staff will be staying on after the end of the month. We both order the seafood bento lunch special and I couldn't believe I ate the entire thing. She sun the rice with a bowl of salad instead and said it was very good. Service was nice and unobtrusive. The Dinner Sets to the rescue! Over the last few months, Sushi On North Beach has been our last minute savior! When we have no dinner plans at home (read neither one of us has bothered to shop and cook), we call Sushi On North Beach and order to go! Over this period, their Dinner Sets, namely the California Dinner and Seafood Dinner have become our favorites. To be honest, Seafood Dinner, my favorite, is a bit too much for me to eat, but I can't resist it! It comes with everything I like; Sashimi, a roll, tempura, salmon or seabass teriyaki , miso soup, rice and salad! Every time I tell myself, I am not going to eat it all, and then I do! The California Dinner comes with beef and chicken teriyaki, a roll, tempura and of course miso soup, rice and salad! It is not as big as the Seafood Dinner, but still pretty filling. They have good Sake and wine too, but I have not tried to order any to go (I am not even sure if one can). They guys working there are great and get you setup on time.
