I went into Sushi Train one night when there was me and a few other people there. Service was slow, and overall just meh. The train had sushi circulating on it for hours and I never saw them put new rolls on the train or change the old, warm ones out. I grabbed a few that were warm and completely unappetizing. Overall, the sushi was just... gross. It's cheap, but for that specific reason. Their other food is okay at best. Not impressed and would not go back. The waiter recommended the 'dragon balls' and said they were a must. They were deep fried tasteless white rice. There's not enough soy sauce in the world to make that taste better. Our sushi roll was terrible. A complete disgrace to a white girls' needs. After struggling to keep our meal down, someone comes by and asks us how it was. We politely said that the roll was disgusting, the cream cheese warm, and the fish tasted sour. The man said "Well, if you would have said something when you ordered, we could have left the cream cheese out if you didn't like it". We were in Tulsa running errands and were in the mood for Sushi. Not familiar with the area, we randomly chose Sushi Train for a new experience. We were welcomed the moment we walked in. This is not your ordinary sushi place. You don't come here for the ambiance. You come here because you want half portions of sushi delivered to you on a train. This was only my friend's 2nd time trying sushi. She was extremely pleased to be able to try many different options without wasting food or money. We let the staff know it was our first visit so they gladly explained the system. Various options were available and clearly labeled so you could compare these to a menu to double check ingredients. When you like what you see you just help yourself. If you don't see what you want you can ask for it and it will be brought to you. Everything is freshly made. This restaurant was very clean. The bathroom was also clean. Like mentioned before, the aesthetics are quite lacking. However, this is the place to go when introducing others to sushi for the first time. Very kid friendly. Been coming here since they opened. Has gotten worse lately. Sushi looks old and is really warm. You can see it sits out for hours and is premade way ahead of time. All their fish is previously frozen and the tuna is injected with dye to make it look like higher grade tuna. Also the chefs can't even cut the sushi properly because every roll we tried wasn't cut all the way through so everything fell apart when you picked up a single piece. I thought sushi chefs were supposed to have sharp knives?! Service has gotten terrible which is ridiculous since you pull your food off the train. Owners don't seem to care about making customers happy. We ordered off the menu and the food never came. After 30 minutes and several "where is our food?" And "is it still coming?" The "manager" was very rude and unapologetic and decided we were a problem and told us we should just leave and to pay our bill. We couldn't believe what we were hearing. We just wanted to order food and eat it! We weren't throwing a fit until they asked us to pay. Then the "manager" stood at the door blocking us from leaving like we are some kind of "dine and dash" couple. Totally blew our minds. We payed for the couple of plates of warm sushi even though we said we didn't want to pay for anything since the service was so terrible. They were so rude "you eat! You pay!" I believe that a lot of the reviews on yelp are full of BS (because they are), but this really happened and i can't believe that people treat customers this way and are able to sleep at night. If you are in the mood for quick, serv-ur-self sushi, you can find it at Sushi Train. You can buy by the plate, as the train travels around the bar. The most expensive plates are about $4, and generally have 4 to 5 pieces of sushi. Or you can order off the menu, which includes specialty rolls, sashimi, teriyaki & Korean dishes. It's not Tulsa's best, but it just might be Tulsa's most fun. read more

Went here the other Night with the girlfriend. I had already been to the other main sushi venues in town and had heard great things about this place. We got there about 730. It was packed. When we entered we stood there for a good 5 minutes before a chef in the center area said we could seat ourselves, so we grabbed a small table. We waited there for another 15 minutes before we were asked if we wanted something to drink We had never been there and at no time did anyone explain to us how anything worked. The waitstaff members all seemed like they were not there to be honest. Even after they brought us drinks, they did not give us menus. We had to go to the checker counter to get those ourselves. The menus indicate what sushi is on the train and what isnt. My gf wanted a appetizer not on the train to start, so we had to flag down a waiter to place an order. She ordered a shrimp cocktail. When it came, the glass, sauce and shrimp were warm. It was absolutely disgusting. The presentation was amateur and it tasted like it was just de-thawed from the freezer and sitting out for an hour and dunked in picante sauce. Needless to say we decided then and there to go to a real sushi restaurant, so we flagged down a waiter, again, and the guy stood there and wrote our tab for about 5 minutes (for two waters and an appetizer). We then went to in the raw on the hill, was seated immediately on the patio and had a fantastic dinner. Pros: Good Atmosphere, cheap prices Cons: Bad Parking, Horrible service, Poor quality food. I definitely come here for the fresh sashimi pieces (salmon and scallops). The prices are reasonable, each dish is color coordinated representing the range in prices: $1.75 - 3.75. The sushi, if not ordered from the menu, is served on a conveyer belt, taking on the roots of how sushi is served in Japan. You simply grab what ever you would like and they tally up the total at the end of your meal. Quality is not bad for the price, but I wouldn't come here to fix my every sushi craving. read more

My husband and I used to eat here all the time. We hadn't been in so long purely because we've been trying to branch out and try new places. However, we had a craving for sushi this weekend and knew exactly where to go. This is still my favorite place. Sadly it seems that business may not be so good for this restaurant. We went on a Saturday night around 6:30 and the restaurant was not even half full. Hopefully it was just a fluke. We received great service and ordered an appetizer off the menu. We enjoyed several plates of sushi from the train. One plate however was not up to par. The roll seemed to be soggy and may have been sitting there for a bit too long. The flavor was still great, just fell apart when picked up. It picked up a little bit while we were there, but we used to have to wait for seating and then only have the option of sitting in the stools, which is the least desirable seat for me. Hopefully this was a fluke and not a trend. I would hate to see this place go and will be sure and visit more often. read more

Avoid at all costs. That is the simple answer. Below is the longer explanation. Service: Terrible. They aren't rude, they're just amazingly slow. It wasn't even very busy, but no one came by and took our order, refilled tea, or checked on us (you know, the stuff normal restaurants do). They need a standard dress code for employees, some guy came up to seat us and I thought he was a random dude talking to us at first. Took our drink orders, never saw him the rest of the day. Don't know who was assigned to us. Our orders took an incredible amount of time. We considered saying forget it, but then it came out. Cost: Waaaay to expensive. Two people spent $29 for four plates off of the train, a spicy tuna (with only six pieces for $8!), and two 1.99 nigiri orders. That is insane price tag. I've been to amazing Japanese places and ate way better food for that same price. Also, I've been to conveyor belt sushi places in Chicago (where everything is more expensive) and gotten literally twice the food, 4x better quality, for right around $20. Train: A novel idea, but there are some problems with it. First of all, they stack the thing with specialty rolls, which are labeled with tiny handwritten descriptions that you try to read as the train moves on. Some plates don't even have descriptions, and for the expensive cost per plate, there is no way I'm going to risk taking something when I don't know what it is. They should really have a majority of simple rolls and some specialty items. They should really use microsoft word and put a photo of the roll in the doc, with a typed out description and include that with the food. The plastic covers for the food are fogged up too, so you cant see half the stuff. I saw someone put a plate back onto the train (which is a big no-no). After that, I was done eating things off of it. We were there for lunch for about an hour, because service was so slow, and saw the same rolls pass us that entire time. That's why they need basic things so they go faster, and they'd probably retain customers for the lower price points. Food: Ugh. Girlfriend didn't finish spicy tuna roll (in 6 years she has never done that). Rolls on train were bland. I like to order inari and egg nigiri to judge a places food. They are so basic so it's a good gauge. Inari was ok, egg just came out of the fridge and was tasteless almost like they made it using water. In all the rolls the rice was pink. WHY is the rice pink?? I have never seen that in my whole life. If it was an amazing place I wouldn't question it. But since everything was not very good, it made us more suspicious that anything else. Still makes me wonder, what the heck is up with that rice?? Outside: Sometimes you can judge a book by it's cover. The sign is kinda dumpy, and when we saw that we said, "hmm, should we try it?" We decided to give it the benefit of the doubt, and had a forgettable (taste) but memorable (disbelief that we spent that much) lunch. The people who own it, I think have the best intentions. They should really get a graphic designer for their written things, go to many other conveyor belt sushi places to get an idea of what the standard is in terms of service and decor, hire staff who seem like they've done this before, and improve the quality of the food. read more

Came here on my trip to Tulsa. Never been to a sushi train before so it was all new to me. The staff were really nice and helpful. The prices was based on the color plates that you ate off. They have on the walls what each colored plate cost. The rolls were decent. Not the best. We also order a plate of tonkatsu, which was pretty good. The train was pretty cool. You can also watch the chefs make the sushi in front of you. Not a lot of fresh rolls on the train though so you gotta order it. But it isn't a bad place, I would come back. read more

Let me start by saying that I have been eating here for a long time and have never had any problems. I love this place. My wife loves this place. Anyone we have ever brought here has left happy. We always sit at the bar, and I eat directly from the train so I can try all kinds of different rolls. My only problem is not knowing when to stop. When you eat as much as I do it can get pricey. My wife always orders the same roll that she loves and she is content. All in all, this is a great place, I highly recommend it. read more

Apparently dark green = black plates. If you're going to have a payment system based on the color of a plate, maybe get the right color. Sushi was either really good or pretty poor. We come here 3 or 4 times a month and it's always great. Good sushi for a great price! The owner is always around to help and the staff hardly ever change which must say something about their job satisfaction! I first when I was younger and thought the train idea was neat, then again, it was a lot cleaner looking back then. The pricing is a bit weird and easy to build up to a big bill. I only go there nowadays because my brother and I basically just eat the basic sushi with smoked salmon on top... It really does not have a clean feel to it though. read more
