I took my family here for a late lunch (3:00 pm). The place was about 25% full, yet they left us standing waiting for a table for 10 minutes (nobody else in front of us). When we were seated, we were given water and left for a half an hour before someone came to take our drink order. We gave her our drink order and our food order. It was another 10 minutes before our drink order came, then another 20 minutes until our food arrived. If you're keeping track, it was over an hour from when we arrived to when we got our food... with three small, hungry children. Honestly, the food was great! Everything we ordered was phenomenal! If it wasn't for the horrible service issues, I'd give this place 5 stars, easy. If you're going out and you've got all the time in the world, didn't bring your kids, and have a patient demeanor, this place is for you. read more

I should be able to order by the piece (set a limit of four) and have yet to find it in Anchorage. I noticed most people order the rolls and the menu is heavy on rolls. Service was bad as well. Probably our favorite sushi place in Anchorage! The new location is very nice and excellent service. We have tried many different sushi rolls and like them all. We have been to the old location many times. The Delicato roll is a personal favorite. I noticed the review who mentioned no changing station for small children and they must have gotten one since because there is one in the women's restroom now. Highly recommend! Came in on a whim for lunch on the 24th. I am a huge fan of their lunch menu and the happy hour lunch special. Super big deal. The prices on their rolls were equal to Carrs sushi, but with much higher quality. I will say the sushi sashimi lunch that came with california (or crunch roll) was very loose and fell apart. The sashimi was so fresh and well presented though. Lady helped me box up the leftovers too. Will come again. Tons of quality wine, and would have had a glass if it was later in the day. read more

I would love to say I like this place but truly, I can't. A group of friends and I came here to celebrate a birthday and was not impressed by the server who was not even our server! The one girl took our drink order and we placed appetizers when another server stormed over and I mean aggressively stormed over and demanded for our IDs as if we lying about being of age. It's sake, calm down. And thanks for the compliment of looking under 21. The original server was kind and polite.. but the gentleman that ID'd us and brought our drinks over was so rude to us. I asked a simple question about the menu and he was so nasty in his response, I almost got up and left the restaurant. He ruined our whole experience and we certainly will not be coming back. I also remember that I ordered the Kalbi lunch special for $10 and it was three TINY pieces of meat. Fast forward to January 2015 - My girlfriend wanted to eat here for dinner and my experience was much better. So good that I've literally been here 3 times in the past week! Their Happy Hour Specials (all day, everyday) are pretty good. I am in love with the chicken fried rice ($9), the sunkissed roll ($10), and the tempura shrimp and veggies. I have visited Anchorage twice for business and both times I had dinner at Sushi Ya. The food is reasonably priced and you get a good portion for your money. I ordered the salmon teriyaki which comes with steamed veggies on the side, miso soup, side noodles, side salad and rice. I also ordered tuna nigiri and edamame - my dinner was all under $30. The salmon was a very large piece, I could not eat it all and was cooked perfectly and was not fishy. I will come again! read more

The waitress didn't believe her, then, while holding the hair in her hand, said "We don't have white hairs here." SERIOUSLY??? The waitress, who we had to ask for after being left alone at the table for over 15 minutes, turned out to be the manager. She served my sushi to the table to share, um, no, that's mine, thanks. Their menu is scattered and isn't organized very well and it was very hard to understand, even when asking the servers for some guidance they didn't offer the best help but enough for you to finally make a decision. BUT their food was great and the udon soup was perfect for a cold day. Portions were good and the happy hour deals were very good! I decided to drive over and make a pick up order there but a person I've never seen work there said they aren't making pick up orders. I LOVED Sushi Ya location on Dimond, and I wanted to try a new sushi spot so I tried the Old Seward location for the first time. First off they took foreverrrr to take our order, they didn't give us everything we needed with our order (like wasabi- who forgets that??), I kindly asked for a fork and they took forever and forgot to bring me one while I'm sitting their waiting to eat, and the waitresses act like they can't hear when you say EXCUSE ME while they're walking by... it seems very unorganized and unfriendly staff. I ordered a second roll and they didn't clear my empty plate, I ordered a soda twice and then had to wave someone down to get a refill, I asked for a roll to be made with regular tuna instead of spicy tuna and was informed that it was premade. ... ok... so? Guess it's too much to ask for a non-spicy hand roll. Also the tea tasted like stale tapwater with no flavor at all. Super friendly service, they just couldn't do anything right.
