I ordered from this place (Sushi Samba, it's called, on the app) through postmates earlier and I'm willing to bet there are gas stations with better sushi. I originally was just going to go to Wegman's and get a few rolls over there, but I wanted to quell my craving with proper restaurant quality fare, so chose one of today's cheaper postmates delivery charge options. I now wish I would have just went to Wegman's because their's is significantly better than what I just ate. And as I'm writing this, I just ate my first bite of the edamame that was included in the meal and it is seriously the worst edamame I've ever had. Mushy, mealy and tasteless. If Great Value had canned edamame, I imagine it would taste very similar to this. I'd like to conclude by saying I don't write a lot of reviews. It has to be pretty fantastic or pretty abysmal for me to go out of my way to do this, and this time it was the latter. read more

Had dinner a few days ago and kept thinking about that night's experience. It was horrible! I don't know who's putting out five star ratings on yelp. This is a 3 star restaurant at most! First of all, food is decent, but definitely not 4.5 star restaurant quality. I'm Asian and I eat a lot of Japanese cruise, there're plenty of other sushi places that offers better sushi than sushi samba for sure. What's making me unpleasant is the service. It was slow, very very slow, and they treat people with bias. The people who sat next to our table came in 10 mins after us. While we waited almost an hour for the first sushi plate to come, they had theirs' first plate finished already. I called the waitress and asked why sushi takes this long to serve, she simply said that there's a big group of people keeping them busy, while the place is like half occupied with 10+ open tables. Ordered a lot of dishes, but they play tricks and serves the cheap stuff first to make you full before you start eating the expensive ones. Ordered shrimp tempura and received 4-5 deep fried vegetables soaked in oil and only 1 shrimp on top. Ordered eel rolls and never came, ordered a lot of sashimi and only received 2 slices, ordered half crab and never came, ordered many types of special sushi rolls and hand rolls and end up only getting the vegetable rolls that's full of rice...etc This is my first review on yelp and I just feel sad and I had to let people know my experience so they don't get tricked by whatever those 5 star reviews say. To the owner of this place: Rochester is not a big place, satisfaction and returning customers are essential. A new sushi addition to the Southwedge in a familiar location (the old Tap & Mallet). The food is appetizing, fresh and affordable. No liquor license as of this review. They offer an "all you can eat" dine-in experience as well as an a la carte take-out menu. Both menus are reasonably priced just make sure that you reference the correct menu when ordering from the QR code online menu system. I dined during the soft opening. so I was alone in the restaurant. The service was friendly & good. Although, I had to listen carefully to comprehend given the accent of my server and chef. Overall, a positive experience. This is definitely the largest sushi venue in the Southwedge with a bright cosmetic makeover from the old T&M decor. This was me and my boyfriend's 4th visit and we've loved it more everytime. The staff are always so nice and 3 of the 4 times we've been the owner himself has been around checking on everyone to make sure everything is good. All of the food has always been a knockout. It is delicious, creative and always looks so beautiful. The plating is gorgeous and the food always looks just soo good. We are slowly working our way thru the menu and finding our favorites with each visit but we have yet to have anything that wasn't good. The sushi and fish is all amazing but definitely try the other types on the menu they are just as good. This has officially become one of our favorite restaurants neighborhood. Only advice if you go for dinner get a reservation. We didn't realize how popular they were already so we had a little wait. Still 100% worth it read more

Sushi Samba checks all the boxes! Our at home dinner plans didn't pan out so we decided to stop in as the restaurant just recently opened in the South Wedge. While the online ordering takes a little getting used to, the employees are very helpful and informative on how to navigate it. The food was absolutely amazing! We got the Sushi for 2 (which included 12 pieces of sushi, 3 rolls, salad and soup), the vegetable udon, and a chicken skewer appetizer. The flavor was incredible in each dish. Sushi Samba is an all you can eat style restaurant and has much more to offer than just sushi. You can order any food on the menu as you want and each dish is made to order. Definitely looking forward to stopping in again to try some of the other options they offer. read more

I agree with another reviewer, this would be ranked lower if it wasn't still a new business. The food was good. Rolls, gyoza, edamame were delicious. The service and business model needs some improvement. There isn't any confirmation that items you order are in the works. The sashimi we ordered never came. Items come out in waves, with 1-3 per plate, but there isn't communication from the wait staff on what each contains. I also ordered a Tsingtao beer that never came, asked for it to be removed, they said it was, and it was still on the bill until I asked again. Neighboring tables had similar issues. There were only two of us, but larger tables seemed to have even more problems with missing items or lack of communication. I think this would be vastly improved with a more communicative system. A start would just be printing out partial receipts for items as they come out. read more

I cannot believe Rochester has such an amazing gem of a restaurant. This place had some of the freshest, most delicious tasting sushi I've ever had. And their sashimi is true sashimi without rice, which a lot of all you can eat sushi restaurants don't offer in order to save money. The non-sushi food was also delicious, and the steak appetizer was out of this world. At $30 per person, the AYCE dinner is a bargain. I highly highly recommend this restaurant, and I for sure will be back. read more

Great new addition to Rochester!! The sushi is extremely fresh and by far the best we have had in the Rochester area. The AYCE option is great since you can try a variety of appetizers, rolls, sushi and sashimi. The owner is very friendly. This was actually our second time in to the restaurant and he remembered us. My first visit. The service was very friendly but the rolls I ordered didn't seem to have a lot of fish. The crunchy yellowtail was mostly crunch and hardly any yellowtail. I didn't get 2 items I ordered but I got full pretty fast so it wasn't a big deal and I didn't bother with asking why I didn't get them. A lot of the pics of items you see on Yelp were not available like the sandwich roll and chirashi. That said, everything was tasty and the most important thing is the rice which they make perfectly. Perfect chew and vinegar seasoning. My visit was on a Saturday so it was $31. The $21 lunch is only on the weekdays. I'll definitely come again but only for weekday lunches since I really don't eat that much and it's a better value for me at $21 read more

I visited this restaurant in person and it was a wonderful experience. The restaurant had a wonderful ambiance. The food was amazing and the staff was very attentive. I enjoyed the all you can eat lunch. At first, the ordering system was a little difficult to get started but after being able to log in, it was very easy. My only complaint was the organization of the items in the menu. Also, it would be nice to have a countdown clock for the end of lunch instead of locking out ordering once lunch was ended. Just tried this place for the first as it is a new restaurant in the neighborhood and I have to say it was amazing. It takes a little getting used to because it is all you and eat and all done on your phone but the staff was very helpful and informative. We got the sushi for two where we got three rolls and and 12 pieces of sushi. They were encouraging to order more as you can order apps, hibachi or anything you want, we got the udon noodle soup and a chicken app just to try a couple more things and it was very tasty. Had lunch here for the first time today. The all you can eat pricing and menu are excellent. ($20.99 lunch plus tax/tip). The menu has lots of options including gyoza, udon noodle soup, sushi, traditional sushi rolls, specialty rolls, and more. The rolls were well sized and the ingredients were fresh.
