After a long day of apartment hunting, we found SushiEn convenient to visit as the yelp reviews mentioned it being reasonably priced and delicious. I am giving it three stars because I think the Ramen is great here, however, the quality of fish is not for fish lovers. We ordered the Black ramen, which has a delicious roasted black garlic broth, and the Red ramen which was a miso spicy broth. Both came with a roasted jalapeño, which was an interesting and delicious addition to the soup. The black garlic Ramen, especially was so delicious and on par with something you would get in Japan. As mentioned earlier, the quality of the fish in the teriyaki salmon bento was not there. The fish tasted muddy on its own without the teriyaki sauce which was disappointing. The restaurant is small and offers only a few places to sit. There was a large TV that was playing K-pop loudly. The woman working was nice to mute the music for us since we sat at the table directly under the monitor. Overall, I recommend this place for the Black Ramen or for cheap sushi! What a meal! Manager/chef and staff were SO friendly and service was top notch. I connected with the manager over NYU as he's an alum from Stern and I just started my master's at a different college in NYU. My boyfriend and I both ordered the salmon sashimi don, which was meticulously prepared with generous portions of salmon. As it was obvious we loved salmon, the manager also had us try some salmon belly nigiri, which melted in the mouth, and another fish we couldn't quite place but was still delicious. Overall it was such a friendly and comforting experience. I was just in NYC last week to kickstart my master's and I had felt a bit disconnected from my classmates who were doing their degrees onsite (I'm remote and part time). I've only ever had this to go, and to be honest I never really get the sushi here and just get their bentos. 3.5 As far as bentos go, their teriyaki chicken is pretty good; sliced up chicken thighs that are cooked properly without it being roasted to oblivion. Ask for less sauce and the chicken overall will have a nice flavor balance of sweetness from the teriyaki and smokiness from the grill. Some of the bummers about this place: *They do not have tobiko or masago. * They forgot the wasabi for our 3 orders even though we asked twice for extra. *Not as many options for rolls, sushi, etc. *it is really small inside with only about 5-6 small tables. The vege tempura was 1 carrot, one zucchini, and one, I think potato. The potato was still raw so did not eat it. The beef looked exactly like a certain beef bowl chain. I always get the spicy ramen, and only was able to try the shrimp balls because the man behind the register gave it to me and my sister for free which was so nice! Chicken was heavily breaded and dipping sauce was your store bought Thai sweet chili sauce. Nothing to crave nothing to rave. Chirashi don had a good amount of fish, a tiny sliver of avocado, a massive load of seaweed salad under, and the worst part of the dish, the super dense sushi rice.
