    Bulgogi Special
    Norma D.

If you're in East Lake area and haven't tried Sushiya, you gotta go. On the weekdays they have a lunch specials that are so good and reasonably priced. My go to is always the bulgogi beef. It comes with a salad with ginger dressing, tempera vegetables, California roll and miso soup (if you're dining in) and your protein of choice. This lunch special has good sized portions and is always good. There's also sushi rolls you can order along with many other Asian choices. If you haven't tried it, you need to. It's one of my all time favorite places to go when I'm in the area.

Ambience same, Service, attention was great from waiter!! Flavor was good and fresh. Unfortunately portions have diminished along with higher price and presentation of sushi. We ordered just a regular california roll, Spanish roll and avocado roll. The layer of sticky rice was so low you could see the seaweed. I was very disappointed because of course price increased to smaller portions for your money. I will look for other options in sushy. I really used to love this location . I wanted to have a calm dinner with my son and not complain but the price didn't make sense...maybe lunch might be better for your $$$ After my observation of layer of rice the " to go roll " was better. Please don't change your quality & presentation !!! Thank you

Sushiya Otay Ranch is a casual sushi spot known for its affordable rolls and friendly service. The menu offers a mix of traditional sushi, sashimi, and creative rolls, along with other Japanese dishes like teriyaki and tempura. Portions are generous and they do have a percentage off their rolls (dine in only) Our server Katherine was on it, she took our order quickly and was very attentive. The ambiance is relaxed, making it a good option for a casual lunch or dinner. but for an easygoing meal with solid sushi options, Sushiya Otay Ranch is worth a visit.

Started with Sapporo on Draft. Mmn Mmn good. Ordered Kalbi Plate, Spicy Tuna Roll and Spicy Yellowfin Roll. Delicious protein for dinner.

Came here late Thursday night, and it was a very slow night as we were one of the couple tables they had. I forgot my servers name but she was friendly, and quick. I've been coming here for maybe 8 years now and The food was absolutely delicious as always! I loved my crunchy roll and the gyoza was so amazing I could literally eat like 3 plates of gyoza alone. The edamame were spicy but great as always. Prices very reasonable.

My wife and I always enjoy coming to Sushiya. The food is consistently fresh and delicious, and the service is always friendly and attentive. It's become one of our go-to places for a great meal together.

Disappointing - we come here often and this past weekend I had left my sunglasses and I called them shortly after to let them know and that I would come pick them up and supposedly they didn't have them. Odd.

    Bento Box Salmon Teriyaki $12.95

The best Bento Box lunch deal in San Diego! For $12.95 I got Teriyaki Salmon (nicely grilled), mixed tempura, California roll, salad and miso soup. Located in Eastlake/Otay Chula Vista near the shopping mall, Sushiya is a great place to grab lunch deals from 11AM-4PM. We also got the Age Dashi Tofu which was delish and had a generous portion, as well as the spicy tuna hand roll. Small tip, if you dine in as opposed to take out you get a discount on your sushi rolls and other items.

I just can't give Sushiya 4 stars today. I don't believe they have enough servers, or the server we had was overwhelmed, or both. As a result we didn't like the service. Ambiance was okay, nothing special. The food was okay for the most part. The pickled cucumbers were mushy. The yakisoba with beef had a little burnt flavor. The baked muscle were good. Mamacita enjoyed her salmon plate and seaweed side. The best was the yellowtail carpaccio.

    $11 avocado roll ( 6 pieces. )... :(
    Suzie N.

I haven't been here in a while but I was shocked to look at my $11 avocado roll when I got home - 6 tiny pieces. Sprouts sells 12 piece avocado for $6 ( and they're much bigger and cut/made nicer). Hopefully this isn't their standard bc it was disappointing. This was just an avocado roll...maybe their regular sushi rolls are better.

Eel roll was okay at best.

From service, to price, to quality the experience was mediocre. Definitely will try a different sushi spot in the area to find a place more satisfying.

05/18/24 party of 6 and a baby. No rsvp needed. We had a 20 min wait time for our party. Ordered Sushiya sampler x2, Sushiya variety x2, sashimi combo x2 , spicy fries, dragon roll, Hawaiian roll, salmon roll, green muscles x2, kids meal teriyaki chicken, beers, green tea and another roll (forgot the name. Indeed 3 star restaurant per Yelp. SD fam wanted to come here and decided to try it out . Sushi and sashimi didn't taste fresh. I think the only thing I loved was their fries. Not too spicy, it was hot and crispy. Place is clean. Staff is friendly. Coming from Vegas, their sushi places are better. Happy eats!!

You know that one friend who's always down for whatever? That's this sushi spot. Not the flashiest, not trying to reinvent the sushi game just a solid, reliable go-to when you need a quick bite before a movie or a low-key lunch that won't break the bank. The sushi? Decent. Fresh enough to keep you coming back, but not so fancy that you feel weird eating it in sweatpants. Service? Friendly, fast, and they somehow always know when you need a refill before you even do. Is this the place for a once-in-a-lifetime omakase experience? No. But is it the place where you can casually destroy a spicy tuna roll, sip on some miso soup, and make it to your next plan feeling fully satisfied? Absolutely. Sometimes, that's all you really need.

We were immediately seated, but as soon as my husband and I saw the menu, we wanted to get up and leave. Their menu was very limited, very pricey for the the place & location. But since my daughter was excited to try it, we decided to stay. No bento boxes here, and everything you request is an additional charge, even a tiny amount of teriyaki sauce! My daughter got the Naruto bowl, and my husband, the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl, each one costing $17 EACH. I went with the soy sauce ramen which was $16, and to add an egg additional $1.50. The bowls were only filled with rice, the ramen was filled with scallions, and not much else. The Cali Roll were also mostly rice, no avocado, they were so cheap and did not even add wasabi & ginger! Plus the place was not very clean. In front of where we were seated were dirty bins collecting dirty dishes, and a trash can where servers just dumped everything from trash, to soups, to drinks! It was so nasty, why not place the trash cans inside, where it is hidden, not where customers were dining?!? We won't be coming back. Pls save your money for another Japanese restaurant... the price, portion or taste weren't worth it for us.

The chirashi bowl ($18.50) was the smallest portion I've received compared to other sushi restaurants, and it didn't feel like a good value. The sashimi was sliced extremely thin, and unfortunately it didn't taste as fresh as I expected. The teriyaki chicken bento had a large portion of rice, the chicken not so much and lacked the flavor I would expect from a Japanese restaurant. This little hole in the wall (and I say it with all the sincerity of Linus waiting for the Great Pumpkin) with its cozy booths was perfect. We started with the Monkey Balls, tasty appetizer if you like mounds of cream cheese & spicy tuna shoved into a mushroom fried deeper than Anakin on Mustafar! My GF suggested the salmon nigiri. Note to my peeps: NOT a fan of salmon, like ever in my life! She says "Try it raw, much different." I guess I like salmon now, but only raw, like a lion...who eats sushi. Am I Alex from Madagascar?! Stunned me like the low setting on a Federation phaser! She's the Trinity to my Neo. I ordered the Amazing Dragon roll, which was as Amazing as Peter Parker himself! To which you immediately yell, "I AM!" and proceed to devour that roll! Sadly, no glow sans the one radiating from my lovely dinner companion.
