This is my second time trying Susie's cakes I'm not sure what changed I loved it the first time I tried it and yesterday I was in the area so decided to stop by to pick up something sweet but I didn't expect it to be this sweet. The sweetness it's so overwhelming you can't even taste the chocolate it's just sugar on sugar and the chocolate frosting harden up the very next morning like hard frosting and the Cake was relatively dry. The cupcakes themselves are pretty yummy. I tried the red velvet and the Uncle Nearest 1884 Whiskey Vanilla Cupcakes. The red velvet was good, but the Uncle Nearest 1884 Whiskey Vanilla Cupcakes had a stronger whiskey flavor than what I would prefer. Bought a box of susiecakes' chocolate cupcakes for my friends bday. I wasn't familiar with their cupcakes and finally got to try and review it. The cupcake itself is moist and very light. I saw that someone has said it was dry which wasn't my experience at all. They put a decent amount of frosting which was very sweet but worked with the chocolate cake. Overall I liked it! read more

Mandy: I love understand that it's natural to want to defend SusieCakes, but this type of response is highly inappropriate, especially when a customer is simply sharing an honest experience. The buttercream this time tasted noticeably different from what we've enjoyed before. I ordered a half dozen of assorted cupcakes, and it was clear the recipe had changed. We've been loyal customers for over six years, purchasing cupcakes for all our events, and this batch was 100% different. The buttercream tasted like it was just butter and sugar whipped together--it lacked the usual quality and tasted cheap. Instead of sending a passive and dismissive response, I encourage you to take this as an opportunity to review what's happening in your bakery and identify areas for improvement. We would have given you many more chances, but after this interaction, we'll be returning to Sprinkles. read more

Never had a bad experience at SusieCakes. I love the brand, the vibe and the ppl whenever i get my sugar fix here. Rachel and Nannette are my favssssss! Just the friendliest. On a recent visit they were both there and made our day. Since I was blessed with an extra slice of cake than I expected (without fail my strategy for not over consuming always implodes!) I was able to bless a work friend I saw randomly on the street with some cake. So it was the blessing that kept on giving this holiday season. This review is for the birthday freebie I enjoyed this weekend. For one's birthday, SusieCakes has a sweet (pun intended) deal of a free slice of cake and I am so glad I signed up so I could redeem this offer. I walked into the store and browsed the various cake types for a few minutes. While the red velvet cake was very tempting, I ultimately went with a seasonal option, the summer berry cake, which was calling my name. I'm a big fan of desserts with cream and berries, so this seemed right up my alley. While I was ordering, I looked briefly to my left and noticed that you can see the behind-the-scenes work area behind glass, which was pretty cool to see. Lots of work involved. The worker helping me quickly redeemed my offer and gave me a container with the cake inside. After she wished me Happy Birthday (very kind of her to do so), we were on our way. Later that night, I tried the cake and it was sooo delicious! The cake was light, moist, and creamy and full of yummy berries. Kind of like a strawberry shortcake. I was in heaven. I know berries aren't always in season, but I wish they could take whatever fruit is in season at the time and combine it with cream and have that as an option year-round. I haven't been to Susie Cakes in years. Last one I've visited was the Calabasas location. I've been meaning to pay this location a visit but they closed before I got off work. Luckily we had a chance to swing by and grab some sweets. I showed my teenage son the 6 layer cake online last week. Today he asked me if we could go to SusieCakes, since he hasn't stopped thinking about the cake lol. My little dude loves chocolate, and well cake! So we came by right before they closed. We grabbed a slice of 6-layer cake, chocolate chip cookies and a red velvet cupcake to try. Let me tell you, the quality in the 6 layer cake has not changed! Still moist, delicious, not overly sweet, just right! The size is plentiful! Glad they're in my neighborhood now, but also a danger zone lol. My son enjoyed the cake, as he said- he "just went to town" lol. They are cashless , so only cards accepted. They're open 7 days a week from 11am-5pm and they have ample parking in the back. My husband and I decided to celebrate our anniversary by getting a small sized celebration cake from the store - we didn't preorder, just walked in and grabbed one they had in the display. Was really disappointed and surprised because it ended up being really dry on the inside, like the cake had been baked multiple days ago. Nothing like the moist cake I remember eating! SusieCakes is one of my absolute favorite cupcake shops in all of LA...and I eat A LOT of cupcakes! Unfortunately, they ended up opening after I moved from Pasadena but that hasn't stopped me from making a pit stop each time I'm in the area. Their offerings of delicious cupcakes, cakes, cookies and more are consistently amazing and you can really taste the quality and care they put into their baked goods. Their cupcakes are perfectly moist and have the perfect ratio of fluffy frosting without being overly sweet. Yes, it's still pretty sweet but not cloyingly so. My favorites of the bunch are vanilla, chocolate vanilla and chocolate mint. Red velvet is also tasty too if you're a fan of red velvet, although the frosting has more of a cream cheese flavor as opposed to buttercream. I prefer buttercream over cream cheese frosting but the frosting here isn't too overwhelming. This is sure to become a regular dessert stop for me whenever I'm in the area. Consistently the last 4 times we have ordered their cupcakes, they have been dry. Seemingly days old. The bread is dry and almost hard. Definitely not up to my standards. Now, this is in regards to walk -in and Postmates delivery, it seems like the vanilla, lemon flavors the cake is dry, on the stale side, always now. Both had a good flavor to them but I disliked the overwhelming frosting on both of them which I had to scrape off. I wasn't able to make the Holidayfest on South Lake Ave this year, but luckily, my mom and sister could and they were able to bring me a delicious red velvet cupcake! It was a day old, but it was still moist and it tasted fresh enough. The cake itself wasn't too sweet, but the delicious cream cheese frosting that covers the top and goes into the middle of the cupcake has got the sweet department covered. The frosting is super sweet, as many other reviewers will mention, but it acts as a perfect pairing with the more subtle cupcake. I really enjoyed that red velvet sugar rush, that I came back a few weeks later so that I could try some of their other cupcake flavors! The shop is small, so it's easy to miss if you're quickly going down (or up) South Lake Ave, but it is close to the Granville restaurant. When I dropped by, the shop was crowded with lots of holiday shoppers ordering and picking up their cakes, while the bakers were in the back busily taking and making orders. I looked to their large display case of sweets and I saw the coconut flavored cupcake, a heavenly chorus started harmonizing in my head, and I knew that I had to try that one next! I read on Yelp that the birthday cake cupcake is also really popular, but it isn't my birthday, so I think I'll just have to wait 8 more months. Although the store was super busy, the ordering process is quick and my order came out so fast that I didn't even have time to snap more photos (I'm a very introverted, laggy photographer, and my camera takes much too long to warm up). I got my bundle of joy to go, since I was just too full to eat it right away, so I ended up testing the stability limits of Susie's cupcakes again, and I ate this one 2 days later. I wanted to have the freshly baked experience of eating a cupcake, so I microwaved it for a few seconds, just enough for the frosting to melt slightly, and it was AMAZING! The warmed up cake and melty frosting was delicious, I took one bite and I teleported to Susie's bake shop faster than when you encounter a wild Abra in Pokemon Blue Version. I would definitely recommend adding some heat to enhance your Susie Cakes dessert consuming experience. But eating the cupcake cold works out just fine too! read more

We ordered the marble cake and it was delightful. We also ordered one dozen cupcakes; chocolate, mimosa and champagne. My favorite and most moist was the mimosa. The chocolate cupcakes were average. I purchased a 6 inch cake and one dozen cupcakes and the total came to 97$. So be prepared for sticker shock. It is most definitely quality and great service but you pay for it. I would return.
