This will be my last time EVER ordering from Valentines Sweets. This must be under new ownership because their cake quality has completely changed, as well as their customer service. I ordered my son's 4th birthday cake 2 weeks in advance with clear instructions for this to be a rainbow cake without added cost which I thought the bakery could do, with frosting. I called the day before the party as the bakery had not contacted me at all to let me know the order was received and that they understood the custom cake order. I corresponded with someone over text ONLY who said that the following: "I sent a message But normally they go based on your message so the bakers make the cakes for tomorrow on Saturday mornings and since you asked to do rainbow design without added costs , they use their creativity to do just that. So the cake will have rainbow frosting design" The photos below are the cake that I picked up the next day (the toppers I added myself). This cake is an absolute disaster. Someone ran to Ralph's and grabbed gel pens and added this sloppy rainbow before my husband picked up the order to cover their mistake. I texted the number that I corresponded with photos of the cake and how disappointed I was, and never heard back with an apology or a refund. Save yourself a headache and go elsewhere. Also for reference this was $45 for a 4" vegan cake. I don't even feel confident it was vegan given the poor design job. read more

I was tempted to get a variety to go but was on my way to meet up with a friend, so I asked for the Organic Chocolate Chip Cookie, which was voted best Vegan & Gluten Free Cookie. Quick update after trying more items on a Sunday at 12:30 pm. The cashier service was good and so was the atmosphere. A cupcake, savory pastry, and plain iced coffee was around $20 after tax and tip. While the items were on the pricy side, all three tasted great. I only had a sip of the coffee, but it was strong and good. The Blueberry Lemon Cupcake was served on a cloud plate that matched the frosting decoration. So cute! I can never wait long enough for it to come to room temp, but the cake was moist with a subtle lemon flavor. I was pleasantly surprised by the liquid blueberry core. It could have had more blueberry flavor though. On the plus side, the frosting was creamy and not too sweet. Our Shepherd's Pie Pierogi was served warm. The bread was soft with a slightly crisp exterior. Inside, the umami mashed potato and peas jived with the spiced ground beef. The filling had enough moisture. Tried a variety of gluten free cupcakes on many occasions. Some are fresh and some not. I've gotten some stale dry, crumbling cupcakes with a ton of syrup most of the time. I would ONLY ask for products made that day or don't bother at all. On a good note, their frosting is made really well, and no palm oil added. I wouldn't gamble with a large order here. My friends and I stumbled upon Valentines Sweets while strolling in downtown Pasadena and were drawn in by the neon pink lighting in the evening. I was happily surprised to see they offered a variety of vegan options! There are pierogis, sticky buns, cupcakes, and their signature tea cakes. I wasn't planning on buying anything, but the kind worker offered us samples and I could not resist The vegan lavender tea cake is delicious and the flavor of lavender is strong! The vegan lemon lavender cupcake was very moist. The frosting was partially melted from the time it took me to walk back to the car (10-15 minutes?). I will blame the hot night, but it didn't bother me. I went back a few days later with a non-vegan friend and he really liked the lemon poppyseed tea cake. I tried the rose tea cake too and it was delicious. Not a single miss or complaint. They also have adorable quirky cards, stickers, and other merchandise for sale. Wow valentines sweets was a vibe. I haven't been in the downtown Pasadena area in a cool minute so I'm not sure if this place is new or not, but it def was new to me. Valentines sweets was warm and inviting but what really drew me in was the cute pastel colors and the tea cakes. It's not often that I see tea cakes so I was pretty excited to give them a try. I landed on the lemon poppy tea cake and we also grabbed the blueberry lemon cupcake and lavender honey cupcake. The choosing was actually pretty easy because of the staff, they were beyond helpful and friendly going over whats popular, what's a favorite and all the different varieties they offer like gluten free, vegan and etc. as we checked out I almost noticed the very impressive drink variety they offered from canned kombucha to gut friendly sodas to matcha lattes to created coffees, you had a bunch to choose from. I absolutely loved the cupcakes, they were super flavorful and unique. The lavender honey was light airy and fresh with the lavender. The blueberry lemon was tart and sweet and very flavorful. Stumbled into this little coffee shop and bakery while walking along Colorado Blvd in Pasadena. Nearly missed it, but glad I didn't. You don't often find organic treats like these. I'm so sad & disappointed with this place. I stopped by during the week because Dots had closed for the day. It was a little hard to find, but I made it! I walked in and loved their set up. I did notice it smelled a bit funky. I'm still not sure what it was or have a clue of what it could be. There were only 3 people sitting at tables. It's a small location, but it's cute. The guy who helped me was nice. I asked him to give me all the "vanilla" cupcakes that were left (5). They weren't vanilla, but he said it pretty much tasted like it. They were organic keto I want to say something champagne. My total was $35. I was a bit surprised, but at the same time I wasn't. Usually what it is at Dots and these were organic keto ones so it made sense they were $$. Fast forward to coming home....my fam ate 3 & said they were okay. I didn't eat mine so I decided to have it for breakfast with coffee the next day. As soon as I took my first bite I got sad. It was hard....like hard hard. Usually cupcakes I buy at other places still taste pretty good & don't get hard by the next morning. I had 2 left and had to throw them away. :( I don't think I'll be coming back for more. People working there are very friendly and will always welcome you with a smile. They answered all my questions. I appreciate so much that they use organic coffee, organic milk, organic flour, etc. Not many people are aware but conventional food is full of pesticides, heavy metals, artificial flavors, mold, etc. It's so hard to find the bakery who uses organic products and I'm so glad they do. Everything I tried was delicious and full of flavor and not at all dry like others said. I think for most people it's hard to make this transition but you have to pay more for high quality products; otherwise, you'd have to pay much more for your medical bills later! Hard to choose what to get with the significant options, eventually settling on the Lemon Poppy Cupcake ($6). Was able to take the cupcake outside in their lone table outdoors to enjoy. Cake itself is nice, even flavor and moist throughout. The icing was dense/hard, easily separating from the rest of the cake. Icing was also proportionally too sweet compared to the balanced cake. So to start... I did not get the cake I ordered. It was difficult to get in touch with them, I got gaslit, and then got denied a refund! It was somehow a very stressful experience. I cannot and do not recommend. If you're too busy to fulfill an order, don't take it!! :( I texted their # to place a custom birthday cake order for my friend's party. They didn't respond so I had to call. I was told they could do a 3-4 inch heart shaped cake with Victorian decorations on the phone. I placed the online order and sent 2 photos from their IG page to reference, as requested. I wrote in the order verbatim: "I would like a Victorian Style decoration. I really like these 2, but you can be creative and come up with your own design. The colors, black, pink, red, and white are preferred, but you don't have to use all of them. Cherries are also fine." After more difficulty trying to get in touch with them, I spoke to the decorator. She told me she could do black, white, pink, or red. She said this size cake doesn't come in heart shape so we agreed on round. (One of the reference photos shows a heart cake in this size!) She said it was a small cake so she could not do as much detail as the reference photos. I said as long as it was still a Victorian design that is fine. As you can see, the cake is Dark Brown with basic Beige piping. I could have purchased a cake that looks exactly like this same-day at a grocery store. My friend said it looks like a $10 cake from Von's. I was so embarrassed. She refused to take any pictures with it and we didn't even want to look at it, so we left it in the box. I had to make it up to her by buying her another cake elsewhere, that turned out beautiful and was easy to order. When I sent the bakery a pic of the cake, noting how different it is from my order, and requesting a refund, they argued with me! They acted like I didn't know what I ordered, started dismissing me and said "if you wanted all pink you could ask for it." They refused to address that I did not order a Brown and Beige cake with basic piping and no Victorian design. Then they ghosted me! Save your $67 ($45 cake $22 delivery). Many of my friends are gluten and/or dairy free who were curious about this bakery will not consider spending their money here now that they know this. Same for my restriction-free friends. The experience was unprofessional, rude, and disorganized. I'm truly very sad I could not give my friend the cake I requested and promised her. It's very embarrassing. I should not have had to pay for a cake so drastically different from what I ordered. I deserve a refund. And if my desired colors and piping were more money, I should have been quoted for that. read more

They do have a happy hour deal one hour prior to closing time: buy one, get one free. I would definitely take advantage of the offer. I was looking for a place that served gluten free and found this little gem. They have so many options and inside the cafe is so cute. I ended up getting a savory muffin. It had jalapeños, cheese, and I think she said zucchini. It was great! I was worried about it being spicy, but it wasn't at all. I also got a funfetti cupcake. It was a bit dry but still pretty tasty. I ended up ordering an Armenian coffee to wash it down with. I like the frosting, that also helped with the dryness of the cupcake itself. Stopped by here early March 2024 on a Sunday around 4 pm for some coffee. This was our first time exploring Pasadena so we weren't aware that Alfred and Intelligentsia are down the street.. oh boy do I wish I had been more patient and had gotten my drinks from either one of them. Drink 1/5 Ordered 3 hot flavored lattes: vanilla honey, hazelnut, and white chocolate. I appreciate the fact that drinks were hot but that's the only thing we liked. They ALL tasted like sweet milk.. absolutely did not taste any espresso. After trying all 3 drinks, we agreed that they are NOT good. Went back in and asked her for more espresso rather than remaking the drinks since a lot of people had lined up after us. She added more espresso (with a lot of attitude) to each drink. Then we could taste the coffee but it was so acidic that we just tasted the sourness. I am picky but I rarely ever throw out my coffee/matcha.. I threw it out 2/3 full because I just couldn't take it. None of us liked our drinks. I've been making lattes at home for the past 4 years using my Delonghi. I'm not a professional coffee maker by any means but I make better coffee.. at least, it doesn't taste acidic/burnt. Service 2.5/5 There was ONE person taking orders, making drinks, and ringing you up. 5-6 people lined up after we walked in and she just seemed so stressed out. Seems like a small business but I definitely think there needs to be two people especially on weekends. Ambiance 2/5 It's cute and has potential but seemed really chaotic. There were random boxes everywhere and it just seemed like it's not being attended to as it should. I'm giving 3 stars because of the inconsistency of the GF & V cupcakes. I understand that the ingredients changes the texture of the cake, however, when I make my own GF & V desserts, they don't turn out dry and crumbly like this. I was informed by a staff member that the bakers don't bake new batches during the weekends--so it makes sense that there are bad reviews about the quality of the cupcakes. Over a certain period of time, the cupcakes stay dry (no matter how long you leave them out of the refrigerator). So, this can be the only explanation for the inconsistency and dryness that others and myself complain about. The plus side is that the workers I've come across are kind, the actual bakery is cute and picture perfect, and on a good day the cupcakes are delicious. I think it's worth the try--go earlier in the week and give it a taste test before buying a bunch. My go-tos are chocolate raspberry, strawberry shortcake, lemon blueberry, and lemon lavender. read more

There were four or five cupcake options, two cookies, and a Persian muffin that were all vegan and gf. I had originally come thinking I'd get the Persian muffin cuz I saw it on Insta and it looked so good. But in the store, it was pretty small for being $6.50 and the employee working said it's super floral so some people don't like that. It was almost the day of the graduation, I called to confirm pickup and they sounded so surprised they had an order. The day of pick up came around they asked me to come to the bakery 9am-10am. It was 10:40am when they decided to arrive to give me the cake. First of all it looked NOTHING like what I requested the cake to look like. Second of all the cake tasted so bad & they didn't even give me the flavors I asked for, the flavor of the frosting they put was mint!! How could they get this so wrong?! What makes me even more mad,upset, and frustrated is if you look through their photo reviews and their instagram you can obviously see that they are CAPABLE of making a vintage style cake the way I wanted but chose to give me this poor horrible quality cake. I'm all about supporting women-owned businesses, and while I appreciate the beautiful aesthetics and presentation of the baked goods offered here, that is the only positive thing I can say. The tea cakes were decent but a little more doughy than I would have preferred, and they didn't seem to be worth nearly $5 a piece, at least in my opinion. And while the cupcakes were stunning, they were both on the dry side.
