Susie's is exactly what you think of when you think of an old school family Mexican restaurant. The building is old but cozy with bright walls and colorful decorations. I've been here many times before, and today was the first day I discovered they have a little bar in the back. It's so cute! Service is fine here. I can't say it was overly friendly but it was certainly fine. The food came out quickly and it was yummy. Hubby was glad that they have a nice à la carte menu. He's never really fond of the rice and beans, and he was able to just get his burrito. All in all this is a great choice, especially if you want one of those old school places. The prices are not bad and food is good. Beware, though, we tried coming here for lunch on Sunday and the place was packed. read more

Pretty decent Mexican food here with a decent parking lot. Had three tacos, shrimp, chicken and fish and was satisfied. The interior is comfortable and the perfect meeting spot if you were to see the Cubs Spring training facility. Very good staff and the complimentary tortilla chips were nice a warm. read more

I've been coming to eat here since I was a kid and still enjoy visiting for authentic Mexican food. There is such a nice variety of food on the menu but my faves are their menudo & enchiladas. Great for big groups because everything is well priced and there is something for everyone. Including kids. Their lunch specials are especially well priced. It is family owned, consistent quality, and yes servers have bad days but they're a busy spot and always take my order right away and do their best to serve us well. There's a reason so many of us have returned for 20+ years. Visit if you want quality food at a great price. read more

This place is right down the street from my work. A friend recommended it. I ordered the lunch special #10. 3 carne asada tacos with rice and beans. Was able to add a small drink for a penny. Did it as a pick up. The food was great. Very flavorful. Pricing was very competitive as well. I would highly recommend them. While i waited for them to grab my food. The staff was great. The restaurant inside looks very cool. Will come back to actually sit inside and eat. read more

I came here today with my family who was in town for a visit. They heard about Susie's and wanted to try it. Wish granted :). We had a feast of food that was all delicious. First, we started off with two orders of taquitos (beef and chicken), and a pork tamale. I thought the taquitos were fried perfectly and filled and topped well. The tamale, I had to try since I love tamales. I thought the taste was perfect and left me wanting more. We for a variety of meals: taco plate, enchiladas, chimichanga, and a whole fried fish. Each of the entrees were cooked well. The only constructive feedback from our party was that the chimichanga tasted like fish as it seemed it was fried in the same oil. Other than that and wanting some more seasoning on some items, everything was great. read more

I was told about this place from a friend saying it was the best Mexican food. I have to be honest...my daughter and I had an extremely flavorless experience. The salsa tastes very watered down and not thick, the chicken and the shredded beef tastes like it was just boiled. No flavor. I may of just had the one bad experience but...... it was rough. Never had bad service here but today my doctor pepper was flat and I tried to explain to at least two different servers today and they seemed detached and rude. Especially the older server with the salt & pepper hair and glasses. She seemed like she was having a bad day and she was really short with me. I usually leave a tip but for some reason the two servers that helped me didn' t listen or try and refill my beverage? I don't know why the service was so bad but I'm sadly disappointed with Susie's service today. I'll just put it like this. Where would you be without paying customers. Happy customers? read more

Food came out completely cold after waiting 25 Min for it. I let them know and it came back piping hot even the fruit on the plate meaning they just microwaved the entire plate. It didn't fix that the food is lacking flavor. The place feels stuffy and outdated. My son and I went to this place expecting good food since the place seemed packed. We went and they put us in a booth next to the kitchen and restrooms. It was loud! We ordered a round quesadilla with roasted green chili. It took forever for them to bring it out and when they did it looked like they just threw the roasted chili on it like as if they didn't care for the presentation of it. My son looked at it and said eew! We walked out after I tried to complain and waited over 10 minutes for the manager. We left the restaurant! This is a delightful family restaurant. They accommodate children and infants without a fuss. Service is polite and fast. The ambience is a little tired but they're forgiven since this is a well established restaurant with decades of use. My partner had the cheese chile relleno which was delicious. I had the pork carnitas (little meat). The pork was dry and rather flavorless. I love this dish and order frequently so I have a good idea of what's possible for developing flavors. The dishes coming out of the kitchen looked really good and I think their enchiladas are a hit as my partner said their flout tortillas were very tasty. Basic....menudo was OK. Not very flavorful and the meat could have simmered maybe another hour to make it melt in your mouth tender. I also had the Chilaquiles Tojo....again not much flavor anymore than half my plate was beans And Papas.....probably won't be back but it nice to experience. Stopped by the other day after driving by it for a year. Always has a pretty full parking lot for lunch so I stopped in. Pretty dated interior but I've eaten in some pretty shady places and had amazing meals so no biggie. The lunch combos come with a beer so that's cool. Ordered to beef tacos combo. The beans were delicious however the two crispy tacos were so dry I couldn't finish them. I've never had shredded beef in a taco that dry before. It was almost like beef jerky. Hands down, some of the best carne asada street tacos I've ever had! This place has been a family staple for years now. They have great breakfast options served all day too. Great micheladas as well. Their beans are some of the best refried beans too! The pozole is delicious! Some of my favorite dishes are the Chile relleno, huevos rancheros, and of course the carne asada tacos... a must! The service is usually pretty quick. And there's never an issue with parking. The ambiance isn't anything spectacular, but if you're in the mood for some quality authentic Mexican food this is your place. Been coming to Susie's since I was a kid. Do not be fooled by the outside and give the place a try. When you walk in it is like being at your abuelas. The family food is so delicious. On recommendation from a staff member at the Hyatt near Sloan /Riverview park in Mesa we went to Susie's Mexican cafe a couple miles away on university in Tempe . Asking for good Mexican food I said I love good refried beans and Susie's did not disappoint . Taking extended family members from out of town for lunch I was so pleased to find an older 50s / 60s type authentic and local restaurant . We all 7 were seated in a large booth . Starting with a very cheesy cheese crisp we all ordered a variety of items . I had a lunch special of abondigas sopa & a quesadilla we all shared with guacamole side . I had a server reccomended green Chile sour cream enchilada plate , very enjoyable. The lunch special 8.99$ included a soda or draft beer for one cent more . The service was very efficient and attentive . So happy to find an older Mexican American restaurant with quite an extensive menu . Reminded me of old favorites in south tucson az . A good sign was to see many folks coming in for take out and a crowd of what looked to be loyals there too. A big bonus no waiting and ample parking ! read more

We were in the mood for menudo and after doing a Yelp search, I found Susie's. After a quick call to confirm they had menudo, we arrived to find what looked like an unassuming, hole in the wall, divey, type place. Various cars decorated the parking lot so we figured it couldn't be too bad so we gave it a try. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and seated right away. The inside of the restaurant is pleasant, cute, and clean. Chips and salsa were promptly brought to our table and our server took our drink order. Their horchata was excellent and the menudo was delish. The menudo accoutrements included lemon, dried oregano, and green onion. We also received plenty corn tortillas with our order. We even ordered a chilaquiles dish to share just to try and that was very good as well. Just like other reviewers, I'd say it's worthy of 4 stars and we'll definitely be back. read more

Good menudo. Caldo not so great. Other food is wonderful, especially the chorizo. Service is fast and friendly.

Food was mediocre. I remember it being sooo freaking delicious. The sopapillas were basically sweet rolls. I am sad it went downhill and they upped the prices. Jerry's in Gallup NM has the best sopapillas. HANDS DOWN!! read more
