Companion and I wanted lunch, and this seemed ideal. Unfortunately, Google Maps is extremely confusing about how to find this and we circled the area over and over till we found it. For starters, they brought our chips and salsa. Not the usual watered down salsa, but with body and tons of flavor. We were off to a good start! Companion ordered a Carne Asada Chimichanga. It was huge and stuffed with meat. It was ordered with green sauce and the flavor was nothing short of amazing. 1/2 of it resides in my refrigerator. For myself, I ordered a pair of Cheese Enchiladas Sonoran Style, which means they had a pair of fried eggs on top along with red sauce. The last time I had this was in Lourdsberg, New Mexico in a little mom and pop place. This was exactly the same. It also came with Frijoles Refritos (refried beans), and fried potatoes. A wonderful lunch but I couldn't finish it. Companions plate also came with a portion of Guacamole. Since companion does not care for avocados, I felt it was my duty to devour it. Unlike most guac's, this one had lovely flavor and the avocado was chunky. It was so refreshing not to have a baby food Guacamole. This is a mom and pop restaurant. It isn't fancy, but it is real. It's clean, service is excellent, and the food it tops. This was my first time visiting this restaurant, and unfortunately it will be my last. The service was very disappointing from start to finish. It was extremely hot inside, making the dining experience uncomfortable. My son-in-law ordered white menudo but was served red menudo instead. After our food was brought out, our waitress rarely came back to check on us, and when we asked for drink refills, it felt like we were inconveniencing her. The biggest issue was with my children's meals. I had three children with me, ages 9, 10, and 11, and they all ordered the kids' soft taco meals. Instead, the waitress entered their orders as adult meals without explaining the difference. Two of them asked for three tacos and one asked for two, assuming they were ordering from the kids' menu like they always do. As a result, I was charged for adult combo meals plus additional tacos for all three children. Overall, the poor service, incorrect order, lack of attention, and billing issues made for a very frustrating experience. I won't be returning, and I can't recommend this restaurant based on my experience. read more

What a hidden gem in Mesa! My day kicked off at 6 AM with an early meeting in Tempe, followed by another one right here in Mesa on this gorgeous Sunday. One of my Mexican clients heard I'm obsessed with Menudo soup and raved about this spot--they do all-you-can-eat (and drink!) Menudo. Sold! By the time my meetings wrapped up around 3 PM, I was starving--no breakfast or lunch in sight. This place is tucked away and looks more like a cozy house than a restaurant, but don't let that fool you. Walked in, and the servers were super welcoming--seated me immediately. I dove straight into the Menudo, and it arrived piping hot in just 15 minutes. The complimentary chips and salsa were on point--warm, crispy chips with a salsa that's flavorful and spicy (a bit much for my taste buds, but still delish!). Opted for the white Menudo (they have red too, but I'm a white soup kinda guy), and oh man, it was perfection. So flavorful and satisfying! The food and service blew me away--I was so impressed, I left a 100% tip. I'll definitely be back soon. Decided to stop by yesterday afternoon with my friends and we loved it. Everything was amazing from the food to the service ! The restaurant is very homey, but the food is good we got the enchiladas, the carne asada torta & the pozole they were all very good but the pozole could use some more seasoning but its okay because the service made up for it! Came in on a rainy Saturday morning! Young lady in front seated me right away and brought out the chips and salsa which were both very good. Ordered the menudo and a Pacifico. The Pacifico was served in a chilled mug and the Menudo came out quickly! Menudo was very good, tortilla de harina was hot and very good. Service was excellent! They do have a patio area but because of the rain I was seated inside. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other things on the menu! read more

This is the perfect little Mexican dive bar restaurant! I love to come here. Food has been delicious every time...I think we've been there five or six times. The cocktails are yummy and the foos is exactly what you think of a Mexican restaurant of having. It seems clean and my husband says it is the best huevos rancheros on the planet. He is an excellent authority on them as he is almost 70 and has ordered them hundreds of times in hundreds of restaurants. If the man says they're the best you should listen! The service can sometimes be a spotty. I think it is family owned and when they are busy it can be slow or they forget something, but they always make it right and and are very accommodating. This is my new favorite. My niece came with us the last time we went and she was very upset that she was leaving and couldn't go back before her plane left. Yes the food is THAT yummy. read more

I decided to order place a togo order for Menudo Rojo. Since my husband and I are empty nesters so making a pot of menudo is saved for big occasions. When I tell you this place is legit you bettrr believe it! We are so picky with our menudo, the broth is so clean not greasy, so flavorful, they have this dialed in. The tripe is cook to perfection and they do not skimp on the carne which is a plus for those like myself who love the tripe. I can't wait to try some of their other Caldos. read more

I came here for camphana and I can say it's absolutely soooo good. The taste and the mussel, shrimp, octopus, and I believe there's abalone, absolutely very good. Customer services is also good as well very helpful over the phone when I called in an order. The place has a sitting outside and inside was a little small but it's a nice place just casual day to hang out or a good bite of Hispanic food. It's one of my absolute favorite places still, I've been coming for over 13 years now. The place is small but absolutely cozy and well lit. I highly recommend their margaritas and sangria, they're the best I've had in the valley. I love the complimentary chips and salsa that come before the meal too! I still order the Ceviche Tostada, but if anyone at the restaurant reads this, please don't put orange slices with it anymore, it throws off the lime flavor. Thank you! Great place! I'm from California and was looking for some actual Mexican food and I was NOT disappointed. I had the asada plate and the chicharones, both were delicious! The asada plate comes with enough carne asada I was able to take a piece home and make tacos later! It also come with a side of beans, rice, salad, and tortillas. The beans were good and the rice was fine, I'm not a rice person... The chicharones were a bit different and I thought I would be disappointed but I was not! They come smothered in a slightly spicy tomato sauce but omg they were delicious! Crunchy yet tender! The lady servers were both great! They had people out in the patio and inside the restaurant and they were definitely taking care of everyone. I was planing on coming back while I was there but I wasn't able to. Heard about this hidden gem from friends and decided to check it out. We doubled dated with friends and sampled a ton of platters. The drinks were fantastic as well. Our server was a riot! With all the rainy and cold weather we've been having I was craving pozole! You'd think it'd be easy finding pozole in the Tempe/Mesa area... think again! I'd had pozole from Los Picos once before and remembered it being decent. Bf ordered the 2 crispy tacos combo, beef, and we ordered dessert, flan and sopaipillas. Complimentary tortilla chips and salsa were included with our order. The quart size pozole was $8.99 and came with a huge tortilla and cabbage/onion/cilantro for garnish. The pozole had a good balance of hominy and beef! Overall no complaints about the pozole. The redeeming dish that gives Los Picos 3 stars! The crispy beef tacos were average. The rice was different; not your typical Mexican rice but not bad. The beans were typical refried beans; not made with lard and therefore not for me! The complimentary tortilla chips were average. The salsa however- let me tell you about the salsa! The salsa was definitely store bought... and not even the spicy kind of Pace! Such a disappointment. The dessert was also a huge disappointment! We're not experts on flan but it had no resemblance to crème brûlée as we thought it might. The presentation was nice but we didn't love the orange flavor either. The sopaipillas which should have been light and airy were thick and dense. The only thing they tasted of was the honey it was dipped in. If it weren't for the pozole, would I come back to Los Picos? No. With so many Mexican restaurants in close proximity there are better options. read more
