Based on what I saw on their menu, this place serves up Thai, Lao, and even Chinese cuisine. And it gets quite busy at lunchtime during the weekdays, given its proximity to a military base nearby. On my trip there, my family and I tried the egg rolls, beef jerky, combination fried rice, and pho vegetables and tofu (I could be wrong, but isn't "pho" a Vietnamese dish?). While the food generally tasted alright for the Lompoc area (there's not many Thai restaurants there), the beef jerky was a little tough to tear and chew. In my opinion, its texture was about the same as eating U.S. jerky out of a package, only it's cooked. And the sauce that comes with the jerky is indeed spicy. Overall, if you are looking for "Southeast Asian" cuisine in Lompoc (and you are stuck in the area for some reason), then this is probably your best bet. Not exactly great, but not exactly horrible either. However, if you have the means and time to drive out long distances for even better, authentic Thai/Lao/Vietnamese food, then by all means do so. read more

This use to be the best in town. Now they made the portions smaller without dropping price, and the quality is all over the place. Minus one star. I'm also not a fan of the order before you sit style. Take away another star. They use to offer beer and wine but not anymore, that's another star gone. Food: I had the Pad Kee Maow here and it was delicious! The dish was filled with flavor and so many ingredients. I really liked the soft, well cooked texture of the flat rice noodle. The veggies were all well seasoned. The overall spicy flavor in the dish carried more flavor of the various spices in the dish rather than just plan spicy. The beef was the weakest link in the dish. It was rather dry and bland with a very tough texture. But overall, a very well executed dish. Service: No complaints. Checked on us a few times. Never refilled out water though. Kinda rushed the check on us, but didn't really rush us to leave. Ambiance: Hole in the wall Thai restaurant that is a good moderate size. Holds ~15 tables. Not heavily decorated, no frills, just good thai food. Price: The dish was $10 which is not bad for a good pad kee maow! Lompoc was our stop during our highway1 trip and I came in here with no expectation or whatsoever! Coming from LA, of course I had some decent Thai food before. Service: Maybe we had a bad day but wow, the gal was horrible. Not just she had an attitude but she literally did not want to serve her customers or something. There were only 3 tables that day and she rather looked down while cleaning instead of checking on us. Food: The dishes here are at least $3 more compared to your typical Thai restaurants. That's fine actually but wow...their thai spicy beef itself is $16...which is double the price at somewhere else! We ordered Pad Thai & Tom Yum soup. The pad thai was not so bad even though the noodles were a bit hard. The tom yum was HORRIBLE!!! It tasted like water + lime juice, not the actual soup with flavor. The tomato & mushroom were still rawr...and the shrimps were still hard....and usually tom yum soup automatically comes with rice but nope, they don't give you rice here! Suvan's is outstanding. There are several Thai places in Lompoc to choose from, but I always go here. The prices are great and the portion sizes are large so I can take leftovers. I stop and dine in-house as well as frequently do to-go orders. Some of my favorite things to order are the spring rolls with tofu, the yellow curry (mmm potatoes), or the masaman curry. I don't eat meat, so it is great having so many options here. The service is a hit or miss. The girls are always, always nice, but sometimes it seems like they want us up and out pretty quickly. That being said, on some days they let us take our time eating. I realize it's a small restaurant so I get their mentality, but the food is so good sometimes we want to sit and savor :) read more

Used to be my go to lunch place. Sorry to say quality is not what it used to be. I ordered the pad se-Eew, It was on the greasy side and no brown gravy, dry. Portions have also gotten smaller. Suvan's has the BEST pad thai I've ever eaten. I absolutely love vegetables and it comes with a variety of many different kinds. Although it's the only thing I've eaten from Suvan's, I can't get myself to order anything else because it is SO GOOD. Go try it! I've had the pleasure of traveling to Thailand on multiple occasions, but I've only once experienced the pleasure of Suvans Kitchen. We stuck to the Thai / Lao dishes--thinking that the Chinese dishes are included for the uninitiated. That is, those who haven't taken a culinary adventure through the world of fish sauce, galangal, lemon grass, fiery hot chilies, and their yin counterpoint: lovely, aromatic sticky rice. (If the restaurant is busy, you might ask your waitress to save you one while she's taking your drink order. I think they occasionally run out.) Get the sticky rice. Get a salad. We enjoyed the Khowpoon Nam Pong (Lao noodle salad). On my next visit we'll try the 'larb' or papaya salad. If you're a meat eater, don't miss the house made sausage. The pasty condiment which accompanies the sausage is sublime. We also enjoyed the green curry and Pad Kra-Pow (stir fry). The only forgettable dish was the Tom Kha Gai, which was only merely better than the stuff served at the legions of bad Thai restaurants found in every big city. We are a nation of immigrants, and those immigrants have changed the culinary landscape for the better in towns and cities across the country. One can get a lovely Persian meal in Twin Falls, amazing kogi tacos in Seattle, and delicious Southeast Asian cuisine in Lompoc. Probably my favorite place to visit in Lompoc. The location is unfortunately a bit easy to overlook as it is situated in a small shopping strip. Nothing from the exterior screams for attention and it is a very unassuming place. The interior is sparse in decoration with a few tables situated in the one dining area. You order at the counter (or at least I always have for lunch). The menu is fairly extensive from Pho to Pineapple curry. They have a wide assortment of proteins and if you would rather not they also make vegetarian dishes. Its very easy to read and I have always found the host/cashiers to be very helpful. I have sampled the Pho (mixed seafood) and found it good with a wonderful broth. A favorite of my companion is the Pad Thai and it can be assembled in various degrees of spicy. Absolutely delicious and always consistent in flavor/look/portion size. I have also had the Pineapple Curry and I was not disappointed. Everything I have ordered here has been wonderful. I always get their fried rice because it's my absolute favorite, but this time they offered to spice it up for me and that was great because I didn't know they offered that! Went here because it was open later than our first choice for Chinese food. We ordered pick up and while the taste was adequate, the portion size was surprisingly small. We ordered 2 entrees to share between 2 people and we were left hungry, which is unusual for Asian restaurants. Struggled between 3 and 4 stars, but the calamari took me over the top. So delicious, fried to a crisp, but still tender inside, but the kicker is the dipping sauce and slight glaze on the calamari itself. Not to mention, they give you a good portion. I also had the panang curry, but it was a bit water and flavorless, and that made me sad because there is nothing like a good curry. The Pad Kee Maow was good, the brussel sprouts were an interesting veggie add to the mix. Wow. Second reviewer, AND the first reviewer just so happens to be my ex-wife! Cool beans! Unlike Miss Heidi, I found this place pretty damned good. First and foremost, it's a Thai place. They just so happen to serve Chinese food and pho. I will have to admit that Suvan's can be a test of your intestinal fortitude. I try to stay away from the Chinese selection because, well, it's not their calling. They are there to make the best Thai food in the town. The exceptions are their orange chicken and crab rangoon. The pho is OK, but I have to say that it certainly hits the spot if you're craving it. The beef salad is OUTSTANDING!!! Downside, the price. I believe it's $13, but you at least get rice and beef ball soup (beef meatballs, not testicles). Oh, prepare to have infernal shits if you order it hot! The orange chicken is great as well. It's not too saucy, not too battered, and even if you make the mistake of ordering it hot, it's still f-ing tasty! I don't think I'll ever go back there, especially since it's 4 hours from where I live, but I know, for damned sure, if I ever find myself back in that area, I will have to drop by. read more

My sis got the pad thai with beef and I got pho with sliced beef and meatballs. They both tasted great; it's not like the pho in San Francisco (delicious!!) But for this small town it tastes good ^^ the broth may have been just a tad bit salty for me. But everyone's taste buds are different. Also was very pleased with the freshness of the sides. My experience with the Pho is nothing to write home about. Then again, I've never written home about food that I loved. It was standard - the reason for 2 stars is because the noodles were all clumped on the bottom of the bowl in the shape of the container they were probably frozen in. The flavor of the Pho was exceptional - they gave plenty of the traditional bean sprouts along with fresh jalapeno on the side. I think there was too much cilantro in the Pho itself. We had one night in Lompoc and were pretty hungry after traveling up from the Los Angeles area. Thanks to Yelp we found our way to this place. It was not quite what we expected but it was delicious nonetheless. You arrive and go straight to the counter to order and pay. You're then allowed to find any open seat. Within minutes your food comes out fresh and hot. We had the fresh spring rolls with tofu (could have used more tofu), Pad Thai (fairly decent) and fried rice with tofu. On the listed menu they wrote, "most dishes can be prepared vegetarian." I found this to be true. This isn't the kind of place to sit down for a fancy date. But they are quick, easy, and tasty. If they were local, I'd definitely come frequently if I could afford the oil and fried food in my diet. read more
