Wood Quality is good. Do measurements on the lb/ft calculations. You will have a few board feet off. They definitely try to squeeze out extra profit with the extra board feet. 9lb/ft should not sell for 12lb/ft! read more

If you are a commercial customer then these guys seem to be pretty good. If you aren't a regular or if you aren't buying a lot of lumber then they will ignore you as long as possible. Not terribly friendly or helpful at the will call desk, nor in the warehouse. Not a large selection to choose from, either. read more

2/10 would not use again. The customer service is 50/50 from the same guy. I went in this morning and bought what I thought was a 12ft piece of cypress they did two crosscuts, chatted with John the Manager and there were no issues. I went back in the afternoon for two more boards and when I told them I need the cuts (so I could fit it in a PT Cruiser) they said only 1 cut per board. I talked to John the Manager and he just said I can go shop somewhere else. I'll take his advice. read more

While building a deck, I found this place locally - although they don't have any pressure treated lumber! However, for just about everything else, they have got pallets full. They have a mill onsite where you can get quartersawn wood. Dozens of species of wood, all clear, straight, and wonderful. Quite a selection of stainable moulding, as well. The best part is the prices are 1/3 of what you would pay at the big box stores... and they frequently have sales on special items! Another gem there is the hardware - they have 100# full extension drawer slides and hinges for a fraction of the price you'd pay at a woodworking store. They always carry true Baltic Birch plywood, essential for your speaker builds! Finally, the staff is always helpful. They'll answer any questions, give you samples of stock, and even help you load everything. A real treasure if you're into woodworking. read more

Be very careful buying the imported birch plywood from China. The quality is awful: you cut it with a saw and it falls apart.

The thing with this place is that it's a very mixed bag of customer service. I asked one guy where a particular type of wood was, and he was very helpful. Then when it was time to tally up my lumber, the next guy was impatient and rude--as if I were inconveniencing him. Then the guy who took my payment was neutral, but certainly not even slightly cordial or appreciative of my business. My previous experience at Suwannee Lumber was very similar--while one or two people were helpful, overall I left feeling like the business didn't care if I ever returned. Next time, I'll buy my hardwoods from a business that appreciates its customers. read more

Expansive selection of hardwoods and great customer service. Definitely worth checking out before hitting any of the big box stores. They say no precision cuts and even though they don't use a table saw they so within an 1/16" or so. read more

They mill whatever hardwoods you might need right there on site, and carry several thicknesses of popular species. They are incredibly knowledgeable about all species of wood, and can help the customer choose the right product for their project. I don't buy any wood from the big box stores any more. It's worth the drive to be able to select the boards I want at a price that's reasonable. Solid oak is in the neighborhood of 1/3 the price of Home Depot and the ply doesn't have the edges beat all to heck nor do you have to dig down 5 layers to get an acceptable sheet. Not to mention the guys in the warehouse will load it for you and will help you tie it if you ask - try that at HD. I love their prefinished plywood. They are about the only place I know of that carries it local. I only wish the markdown barn out there was a little cheaper compared to the normal stock - especially on some boards that are really crap. read more

Had very unpleasant first encounter. Poplar was 21BF but the guy in the lumber yard calculated as 26 and insisted: "this is how they told me to calculate". He even tried to tell me that the difference was because he was using inches for the length and I was using feet (the board was 7 foot even). The office recalculated and agreed that it was 21BF and upon calling the other guy, confirmed that the other guy was "rounding it up". I do not know what that meant but they did not seem to care to figure out either and told me that there would be 12% waste surcharge because wood shrinks during the kiln-drying process and when they bought it, it was a larger board (this was a rough cut, so, edging waste was no factor here). The edge also had a large defect (more than 2") that should have knocked down at least 1BF but I was told this was already "factored in" even though other boards without a defect had the same price. So, I do not know what "factored in" means since I paid the full BF plus 12% "shrinkage fee". The overall attitude was also very unpleasant. Asked the first guy to help with the loading and he disappeared only to show back up once I loaded it myself. I am just getting back into woodworking and was really hoping to shop at his place but now I have to drive further to another yard. read more

every time i order wood there push off some bad boards or crap. on me the people in the warehouse let somebody cut plywood on top of my oak boards which i paid full price for 13 inch wide boards with a saw cut 4 inches long and 1/4 inch deep. yes there are ok but i did go to the trouble to order my wood and paid for it so i am not happy with it. i still but from them but i think you should take care of your customers. read more
