Buttermilk pancakes with eggs and sausage
    Carrie M.

This is an old-timey diner with classic American breakfast, sandwiches, and burgers. I appreciate how they were very upfront with the 50 cent per egg surcharge. I had the buttermilk pancakes with two eggs and sausage, while my friends got various sandwiches. My meal was $14.61 plus tip. The pancakes were thick and fluffy, while the eggs and sausage were pretty standard. I will say that I was bothered to see the little plastic butter packets on top of and touching the pancakes as it does not seem hygienic. The service was friendly, although my friends were getting hangry as we waited 45+ minutes for our food.

These ladies run an awesome diner! Had lunch here for the first time today and both ladies were friendly, patient, attentive and kind. The food was so good, especially the dreamcicle! We live an hour away and was just in town to see a specialist but we will be coming back, definitely worth the drive.

    Cinnamon Roll!

Thought we'd try something new and, instead of going to Megg's, we thought we'd give Suzy Q's a try. So glad we did. We kicked off our meal with coffee. I got a Brevee Latte that was delicious. Perfect, creamy foam on top of milky, smooth espresso. My husband got a black coffee that he said was a little weak. Next time, he'll order an Americano. We ordered the cinnamon roll as an appetizer. It was ooey gooey, just like we like it and the cream cheese drizzle on top was . For entrees, my husband ordered the French Toast plate. He said his eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly. I tried his French Toast, and we both agreed it was a good, classic French Toast-- the outside had a nice crispy texture but the inside was fluffy and custard-ey. I ordered the Monte Cristo with fries. I hadn't had a Monte Cristo in ages and this one did not disappoint. Creamy, salty, cheesy goodness on the inside, perfectly deep fried on the outside with homemade raspberry jam on the side. French fries were perfectly done. This place has taste and texture down-- crisp but not too crunchy, soft, fluffy potato on the inside. Got ranch to dip first, of course and they got the good ranch. We were so stuffed we didn't order dessert, but it looks like they have some yummy options that we'll have to try next time. Service was friendly and attentive. Pretty sure the owner checked in and got us a refill a couple times; it's always nice to see the owner out and about serving and greeting customers. So glad we made the decision to skip Megg's this go and try something new. Did not disappoint and we will definitely be returning when we pass through Temple.

    Bagels and lox

This diner has always been one of my favorites. It's definitely one of the best diners in Central Texas! Let's start with the customer service, which is top-notch on many days. You may even find the owner "Elaine" there to greet you. In her absence, you will be greeted by one of her very competent and friendly staff. As Elaine puts it they're like family and believe me they treat you like family. You'll be quickly seated in a cozy dining area, large enough for groups, but quiet enough to hear yourself think. There are many options to choose from for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. I have it had an item from the menu that I didn't thoroughly enjoy... believe me I'm working my way through the menu as quickly as possible! This morning I opted for a café au lait (remember those) and bagels and lox. I had my locks and cream cheese on and everything bagel... and yes, it was everything! The richness of the cream cheese complemented the saltines of the salmon and the tank of the capers perfectly. If you're ever in Central Texas, be sure to stop by this quaint little diner for a taste of home with a flare.

Customer service: 5 stars, there was only 1 other party at the time but my mom frequents this restaurant and has had great service every time. French toast: 0 stars. This had a very weird flavor yesterday. The crust was the only edible part. I only ate a 1/4. I was a bit disappointed since my mom likes this restaurant. Beignets: 4 stars. I took them home to Austin to enjoy with some Cafe Du Monde coffee. Great combination! Reminded us of our trip to New Orleans. Breakfast sandwich: 5 star review from my mom. This is her regular when she comes here. I would love to try the restaurant again next time I'm in town and try different items. I will update my review on my next visit.

Big building with spacious dining areas, outdoor space, and the pickleball courts of course. There's also an upstairs area that's exclusively for members. Wine list was pretty short but had some good bottles on it. Brunch food was good. The breakfast croissant sandwich was hard to handle and fell apart but tasty. The Southern Poutine was hearty and comforting (sausage in lieu of cheese curds) The bartender was exceptional-knowledgeable, engaging, and attentive. Would love to see a broader wine list with greater range. Was disappointed they didn't have the fireplaces on especially since it's been so cold. A nice fireplace would have really elevated the experience by adding a cozy atmosphere. Also, they have a fruit fly problem.

About server was nice and attentive even though we were the only ones outside at first. That said, overall we were nickel and dimed for everything. It really felt like they just want money. If a 14 year old wants to order off the kids menu, they charge an extra $4, but it's not an adult portion, it's the same amount of food they just want you to pay more. It makes me not want to bring kids here. Also, if you're eating and the pickle ball courts are empty, there is no discount for playing pickle ball, and they make sure to tell you that you will be charged while you eat your meal. The courts are empty and they don't have any reservations for them, but they need their money. We were told they would provide paddles and balls, so we didn't get ours from the car, and then we were charged for them. Since it's a small space and echoey, we could not hear ourselves over the group of people talking. Drinks: We started with the Queen Bee cocktail and a red wine. The cocktail was good but I didn't feel the mixture of flavors worked well for my taste. I can't recall the name of the wine but it was a nice wine to pair with red meat. Appetizers: we started with the fried green tomatoes and the Caesar wedge salad. The tomatoes were a little bland and came out cold (not sure if that was on purpose?). The wedge was good but was slathered in dressing which made it a little too rich. *Side note: I realized after we left that complimentary bread was mentioned on the appetizer menu, but I'm unclear if we had to ask for that...? It was never offered nor brought out. I decided against ordering the French baguette because I assumed there was complimentary bread. Entrees: I had the Ravioli Diablo and my husband tried the Sea Bass special that came with clams, mussels and lobster ravioli. The Ravioli Diablo was just OK, kind of a small portion. For the special, he liked the mussels but thought the sea bass was a little overdone. In hindsight, there was a lot going on with that plate; the ravioli was a bit out of place and it could've used a nice risotto or rice instead. Dessert: we tried ordering Creme brulee but they were out so we ordered the "brown butter" cheesecake instead...I'm including the description from the menu and a picture of the bare cheesecake loaf I received with no toppings (I took the picture after my husband took a bite). I'm actually most disappointed about this since I was hoping it would be the part of the meal to make up for the mediocrity of everything else. "Vanilla bean brown butter with candied pecans and soft whipped cream" Honestly I tried to be optimistic but it was overall not the experience I was hoping for. Especially for a $200 bill.
