It is just that... OK. They were short staffed. We waited 15 minutes for drinks and another 15 minutes to order. After we ordered appetizers and food came out at the same exact time. We asked for chutney TWICE before getting it. The spice level was perfect but the chicken sagg was bland. Unfortunately due to reviews and that this is connected with the ever so popular ( and well deserved rated ) Dusmesh, I had very high hopes for this. This is my favorite Indian restaurant anywhere and it's not just because the food is amazing. The staff truly cares about the customer experience and I feel special whenever I visit, whether it be dine-in or carry-out. They recognize me (or my order) and ask how about my son. Their food was a pregnancy craving of mine so naturally they recognized the same pregnant lady every other week. 4 stars not because it blew my socks off but this is literally the ONLY decent Indian food I have tried in Cincinnati. It's very cheap and the portions are sizeable. The lunch-time buffet is pretty good. I've only gotten carryout so I can't speak to the ambiance. For those who like to frequent the Clifton area Indian restaurants, I would suggest making a 10 minute trek out to College Hill for this place which is SO MUCH BETTER. I was in the neighborhood and wanted to give this place a try because the user uploaded pictures looked amazing. They didn't disappoint in person. They put a lot of care into their dishes. The quality of the food was great. Perfectly seasoned and with a spice level at 3, (your options are 1-6) it was the perfect amount of tingle without overpowering the flavor. The service was very friendly. I was there on a slow day with my girlfriend and we were the only people dining in at the time so they were happy to help us. They have a full bar with a large wine and imported beer selection. The atmosphere of this place is very warm and they keep it very clean. Even the bathroom was very clean. It's apparent that they care about their establishment. I wish I lived closer to this place so I could eat there more often. It's a little pricey but, trust me, it is worth every cent. I recommend this place for anyone that likes Indian food and as a good date spot. read more

After searching Yelp and other online review sites, we settled on Swad as our first Indian food destination. Our double date group sampled Saag, Chicken Tikka, and Shrimp Tandoori, and Naan. All of it was served with what seemed like an unlimited helping of rice and was delicious. The portions were large, most of us had leftovers to take home. We had a lot of questions and our server was happy to help us understand the menu. The main reason we chose Swad over the other many options in Cincinnati is the décor and seating. swad is hands down the best in cincinnati. i've been to pretty much all of the indian restaurants after living here for a year and i would say you can tell a difference between swad and the rest. The wait staff were so friendly and accommodating. The food was fresh and served fast. They will substitute the cream for coconut milk to make the dishes a little lighter. This was my first time eating at Swad. Me and my gf came in expecting it to be a buffet but i guess they only have lunch buffets, because it wasnt open for dinner. I must admit that we are both unknown to the world of Indian food. I ended up getting the Lamb Choley. I actually enjoyed the lamb and the sauce, but the beans (i believe thats what they were) werent very good for my taste. Fantastic food!! The menu can be a little overwhelming, as there are so many options. Had the Chicken Tikka Tandoori and the smoky flavor was just phenomenal. The best Indian restaurant I've ever been to. Whether it's ordering off the menu or lucking out and having time to catch the lunch buffet, I've never been disappointed. The food is fresh, always hot, cooked correctly and spiced appropriately. The service is incredible and you can tell that the wait staff is treated well by management. The buffet is always hot and replenished. There are two dining rooms, both which are designed well. The ambiance is great and the bathrooms aren't scary. Our visit was really disappointing. Some tables were piled with dirty dishes, ours had stains on the tablecloth, some utensils had food residue on them, and the service was weak. The servers had difficulty dealing with some simple questions (does it have potatoes? can we get a cup of hot water?) and were hard to communicate with in general. They brought the main course without any plates and seemed to be in a bad mood overall. The food itself was pretty good and it was delivered relatively promptly. Maybe carry out is the way to go. I went to see if the food was as good as it was rated before. I found out about the new location in the City Beat. I drove by yesterday and realized it was right down the street. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was very nice and friendly. I had the Chicken Saag, Keema Somosa and Paneer Papradi Chat. Everything was very good. My only suggestion is error on a lower number for spicy. I love spicy and got a 4 and it was too hot. It was no big deal since I got a 1 to take home so I can mix the two. The price was very reasonable and I loved the look. I am definitely going back and since it is only 5 minutes away I might have to get take out for dinner.
