I know that the newest review, written 9/11/24, states that this place is now open, but I was just at the neighboring restaurant a couple of days ago and parked in front of this business and it was NOT open for business. It was dark and standing wide open, with work being done on it and airing it out. But it was not open for business in any way. Hopefully, the cleaning out will include roach and rodent clean up and control - based on what the Hamilton County Board of Health inspections indicated. I don't know if that is what prompted the closure and remodeling but it coincides with the closure date. But - as of a couple of days ago - this place was NOT open for customers. read more

Went there on a Saturday lunch hour and service was pleasant. This was a place we had been to about 30 years ago. There was no lunch buffet anymore as of mid-February so we decided to order off the menu. Food ordered was naan, bangain bharta (eggplant), and Tandoori mixed grill in a sauce (possible to order without sauce also), rice was included As we dive into the food we shared it family style. The mixed grill was tasty, but the bharta was just so-so. Really couldn't taste the eggplant much. Overpowered by the chopped bell peppers and onions and the sauce. The good thing is they are willing to make any dish on the menu and take into consideration any dietary restrictions or allergies. Service was great as mentioned earlier by a lady who had been working there a long time. Found this place on Yelp, we were in the area and were craving some Indian. The buffet looked average but the tastes and selection were much better than they looked. The spice level was a little more than I could handle, was able to try many different items and found them all to be quite tasty. The meal ended with the Kulfi mango ice cream which cooled down my suffering tongue. :-) When in Cincinnati will for sure hit this place up. read more

This wasn't my favorite ever Indian food restaurant. We went on a Monday around 7 and there was absolutely no one there so we were seated right away. The people working there were nice. They always made sure our water was filled and that we were enjoying our food. I got the chicken tikka Marcela (as always). The sauce was a bit too rich, eating a lot of it mate me nauseous. I also got a level 2 spice (1-5) and I couldn't taste any heat. My friend got a 4 and she couldn't taste any either. I also didn't like the brought us only one serving of rice for the 2 of us. the rice definitely didn't last. But when I had leftovers she gave me more rice go go, which was nice. Like I said, not my favorite. But I would come back if I was in the area and wanted Indian food. read more

Stopped in for dinner the other night, it had been several years since we dined there because we had moved out of town. It was just as good as we remembered. The service was quick and friendly and the food was fresh and delicious. The chicken tikka masala was great and they made chicken korma for me even though it was not on the menu. The samosas, garlic naan and raita tasted freshly made. The new owners (he has been the chef there for ten years and his wife) took over in December after the previous owner retired. Hello Foodies! Today I was in the Montgomery area with a hankering for some Indian Cuisine. There are many Indian restaurants, and many are good. But, there is one standout. TANDOOR! Varsha and staff are wonderful! Outstanding service always and the spices articulated in the various dishes are beyond bodacious to the taste buds. I treated myself to the goat curry and rice. If you don't love this dish, well, you need your subjective taste buds examined. Spiced perfectly with meat very tender. The sauce is simply out of this world. Let me preface by saying my husband is Indian. I've been to India multiple times, and I absolutely love Indian food. Ironically, my pregnancy has had me turned off of Indian food for the last several months and I got a random craving for it today. I wanted to try someplace other than our normal spot and we ended up here. First impression - decor is a little dated, as in it could all use a good wash/dusting. The fabric on almost all the chairs were stained, but otherwise it's not much different looking inside than your average Indian restaurant. The restrooms were clean, but I was a little off out by how disorderly the station was behind the bar. We were the first ones in, but the place started filling up pretty fast - this was around 5:00. We ordered a chicken makhani, malai kofta, garlic naan, and an onion kulcha. While we would normally get a 4/4 spice level, my pregnancy would have me crying in agony later from heartburn, so we went with a 2/4. Service was prompt and our food didn't take long to come out. Naan - 5/5. It was doughy, buttery, and had the perfect amount of garlic on it. Onion kulcha - 2/5. Sadly this fell short. It wasn't soft like I would expect of an authentic kulcha and sadly as far as flavor goes it was really lacking. Chicken makhani - 4.5/5. Very delicious! I won't lie, I was initially off put by how the chicken was cut. It was like long, rectangular, thin shreds that closely resembled the chicken in cat food. I'd later mentioned this to my husband and he exclaimed he loved that it was that way. The gravy was creamy and well spiced. A lot of places will slap the name chicken makhani, but yet serve butter chicken. This place did good staying true. Malai kofta. 2.5/3. I was pretty disappointed with this. It wasn't bad, but it simply had no flavor. If we'd gone with a higher spice level it may have been better, but for the price point this one just wasn't worth it for me. Overall I'd probably rather give this place a 3.5/5. Since we can't give a 1/2 star I rounded up rather than down because our waitress was so good. She was very attentive and prompt. Who know that I'd find one of the best 1.5 miles from my house? I had Curry Chicken, naan & gulab jamun. The spice level was exactly what I requested on the curry, the garlic naan seemed as though it had just been made and the gulab jamun was outstanding. Unbelievable- Cincinnati for whatever reason is a ridiculously delicious hub of great Indian food. There are a handful of other restaurants worth mentioning, but Tandoor India takes the cake when it comes to the benchmark for Indian- Chicken Tikka Masala. Their other dishes are also tasty, but the Tikka Masala is their gold medal. OH! and their tandoori chicken is also unbelievably tender! The other meat features are fine, but this place shines when it comes to chicken, esp. boneless- HIGHLY recommend. I have eaten here several times for dinner, and today, I had their lunch buffet for the first time. The staff is ALWAYS super-friendly, and the food is always good. I have even heard someone complain that the food wasn't what they wanted or how they wanted, and the server/chef made it right for them--even taking some money off the bill. And they do that 'cause they really care about making everyone's experience a good one. As for the food, it's fabulous. The mulligatawny soup is so awesome. And the lunch buffet is really good. Filled with vegetarian stuff with meat on the end. That makes it great for a mixed vegetarian/meat-eating crowd. I was especially happy to go there as there are things on the menu that I never order, because once I've found my favorites, why try for something else? But the cool thing about the lunch buffet is that I got to try out some other stuff, anyway. Awesome. And they apparently change what's on the buffet all the time, so there's always opportunities to try even more new things--maybe find a new favorite. I had always been curious about desserts, and I finally got to try the little doughnuts, and there was also this great melon dish. Can't describe it, but I had no problem eating it! A Very Enjoyable Dinner Experience A small quiet Indian restaurant tucked away in the unusual Market Place complex in Montgomery. Appetizer: ASSORTED INDIAN HOR'S D'OEUVRES All the different items on the appetizer were done well and tasted very good. There is one aspect that I would like to point out. When bringing out the appetizer, a three bowl chutney rack was brought out. A mixture of chutney and chili's. While these were good, what I noticed is that Tandoor does not do what MANY of the most popular Cincy Indian restaurants do: They do not RECYCLE their chutney's. You could clearly see that they served these, in small amounts, in clean bowls. Many other Indian establishments openly take chutney bowls from table to counter back to another table or directly table to table and they are not shy about it. This has honestly always grossed me out and cannot be sanitary. Entree 1: MURGH TIKKA MASALA Fantastic. We went with the spicy level and it was fantastic. Not much to say here other than it was very good. Entree 2: LAMB VINDALOO Unfortunately I was not as big of a fan of this one. I don't believe it was because it was done poorly but rather because it was just overly heavy in a tomato paste flavor for my taste. The ingredients were good enough and it did not prevent me from eating it, however I would move towards something else in the future. Naan Breads: GARLIC NAAN and Another NAAN containing RAISINS. The garlic naan was fantastic. The second naan, which the name I forget, was good but not exactly what I expected. I had expected the recipe to have used golden raisins instead of the traditional dark raisins. The bread was good and it did the job to balance a spicy dish with a little bit of sweet. Tandoor has one of the largest selections of different naan breads I have ever seen at an Indian restaurant. Even a few more that what the online menu shows. Dessert: KHEER Very good. If you like Kheer (Indian style rice pudding) then you'll like it here. Summary: We were pleased with our experience. We would recommend Tandoor and we would return. The service was excellent and attentive. The courses followed each other very timely. Whereas their menu had many different options, I was disappointed to find that they didn't have any Bharta dishes and I was very surprised that they did not have any Biryani dishes to offer. He chose the normal heat (2), which had not much heat but the flavors were incredible. You could taste the cumin, curry, onion, garlic.... oh it was fantastic. I ordered the lamb Jalfrezie, I cannot reiterate enough- this was FANTASTIC! The waitress recommended it as I was trying to burst the tikka masala bubble. My mouth is watering just thinking about it even now... The rice is very tasty, we got an extra order . We ordered garlic non as well & that was good, but unnecessary. YUM folks. Visited the place with family. As an Indian I wouldn't want to go back ever! I wouldn't even call that Indian food except for the names. They don't taste anywhere nearby what it should be. To add to the misery it is super expensive. The quantity is very small. A $18 platter has only 5 pieces of meat! They served under cooked food first. When returned they re-cooked the same pieces and brought them back to the table. The host argued that they don't refrigerate food but the food that was served to us tasted and looked to have been reheated. I am never going back again. read more

Delicious and Great service!! Visited Tandoor India Restaurant to have lunch with a friend on Friday. The buffet style was offered at lunch time with less than $10. There were 7 kinds of curry with Tandoor chicken(4 were vegetable curry and others are chicken or lamb one). Also, some salads and desert too were provided. The Indian rice pudding was deliciously sweet, which I loved. The staffs were also friendly and always took care of us (our water glasses has never got empty even though we had spicy curry). Yea I would choose here again if I have chance to have lunch with a friend. read more

I could hardly contain my excitement for getting to try a new [North] Indian restaurant for lunch on Thursday afternoon. In case you're wondering what it feels like to be a grownup, this is it. It's not terribly thrilling. An hour before my tryst, I was already plotting my visit, complete with a dish of Mattar Paneer and garlic naan. Unlike most genres of restaurants, I get Mattar Paneer at every Indian restaurant I frequent*. This is unique in the way that I am gaining a really great understanding of which restaurant makes the best version. (If you're curious, as it stands now, Ambar India serves my favorite Mattar Paneer dish, while Dusmesh and Shaan Indian Cuisine closely follow.) I admit I have some work to do on my Cincinnati Tour de Indian Food, and this is one step towards remedying that. So Mattar Paneer, it is. This girl isn't getting the buffet. Unless it looks amazing; then we'll talk. Onward! Location: Tandoor, is located in what is called Market Place off of Montgomery Road in Montgomery. Its location, at first read (on Yelp, of course), seems intimidating and a little difficult to find, but any GPS should be able to get you there without hiccup. If it helps at all, Market Place Lane is found at a traffic light just behind a Fifth Third building and across the street from Montgomery Square (a strip center boasting a pretty large Kroger as well as Original Pancake House). There is sufficient parking at least for lunch; for dinner it may be a different story. Food: Like I said, I definitely got the Mattar Paneer and garlic naan. My server, who was very friendly, attentive, and timely, did not slack on refills** and even offered me a lunch card--not many places even do this anymore; let alone offer. By doing so, she has ensured that I will be back in the future. She also gave me my naan for free (I think she felt bad that I bought a lunch dish at a dinner price.) Compared to the other places, I'll say that Tandoor ranks with Shaan (for those who've forgotten: Ambar is still my favorite with Dusmesh and Shaan following in that order). Very good, but not my favorite by any means. Atmosphere: I was surprised with the layout and overall feel of the place. It was homey and not entirely corny like most Indian places, so I'd compare it to Dusmesh in that regard. It was a little corny, though, I won't lie (see: stereotypical wall hangings and border wallpaper). I will say that the service on my phone was abysmal. I wouldn't otherwise care, but eating alone I was hoping to knock out a couple of lengthy videos. I couldn't during today's lunch. And assume I won't be able to in the future. (This is important, seeing as I frequently lunch alone.) The all-around experience I had coupled with the customer service were really impressive. In that aspect, this is probably the best of the Indian places I've been. The taste--however upper echelon quality--wasn't the best. Likes: I didn't have to worry about refills, the spice level ("medium") was perfect, service was pretty quick for a non-buffet lunch, the taste of the Mattar Paneer was above average (she even said I can get more paneer and less peas next time--I've always gotten the side-eye every time I ask for less peas), and the garlic naan was fantastic stuff (my opinion: Dusmesh has the best, and I'd rank it with that). Gripes: My phone service was abysmal and, comparatively, it wasn't the best Indian food I've had. It was really good, though. Overall Grade: B [out of a possible A+] *For example: in the case of, say, Chinese restaurants, the type of dish I opt for varies. I don't have a specific go to. **I often have bad experiences with drink refills at Thai and Indian places. I'm not sure if that's because they tend to serve spicier food and I drink more, or if it is some kind of cultural difference. Either way, I was impressed with this place in that regard. read more

We decided on carry out last night, and the criteria I was given was that he wanted chicken tika masala and onion naan bread. Neither of us had ever tried Tandoor India, and it was on the way from my work to his place. So we decided to give it a shot. I called to place the order, and let them know I would be there within half an hour. I have to say, from the outside, it doesn't look like it's the nicest place. It's kind of out of the way - you wouldn't be able to see it from the street or accidentally stumble upon it. But once I got inside, there was a nice bar to the left and the owner greeted me and asked me if I was there to pick up an order. It was waiting for me on the counter.. I said yes, paid for it, and walked out to my car. The next thing I know, the owner was rushing out to my car behind me and said that she noticed the bag was leaking as I was leaving. I looked, and sure enough it was. (My leather car seats thank her for stopping me.) She took the bag from me and said she would go re-package it, disppeared into a side door and reappeared several minutes later with our dinner freshly packaged. I can't stress how nice she was. As for the actual dinner....I asked them to make my curry extra spicey and they did. There is no such thing as too spicey for me. I would absolutely make a trip back!
