Really great breakfast spot! I love that I could bring my dog. I've never really tried eating with him on a patio before, so it was kind of an experiment. I loved that I could order us a whole plate of turkey bacon to keep his interest! I learned from this that my dog isn't a out-and-about kinda dude and he'd prefer to lounge at home, but the bacon made him want to stay! They gave us 4-5 slices of bacon for ~$4, so I thought it was an okay price. I also had half a smoothie bowl and it was delicious, but slightly overpriced (over $7 for the half size). Parking was okay. I found a tight spot in the lot, but then getting out again was a nightmare. If I didn't have my senior pup with me, I would have parked elsewhere and just walked. This place SLAPS (that's a good thing). Spent the last month or two up in LA and I am so glad this is one the first spots I came to when coming back to Cbad. Food - I had the potato scramble breakfast burrito. Without a doubt an amazing burrito which made the ones in LA seem like breaded abominations in comparison. It was the perfect combo of seasoned potatoes, eggs, and the right amount of sour cream, all wrapped perfectly. AHhh- I could go on. My mom had the small açaí bowl (the large is gigantic). Impressed that it was actual açaí and not some sort of sorbet/ice cream which is what a lot of açaí around cbad is. Nice amount of fruit, granola, bee pollen, and coconut flakes to top. She would recommend. Service - server was attentive and friendly. Maybe could have topped my water off a little more often, but I drink water like it's a drug and they were packed on a Saturday, so I don't think it's their fault by any means. Parking - parking was fairly available in the lot as well as on the streets nearby. Wasn't an issue. Sometimes the prospect of a restaurant with a wide variety of vegan options clouds even the best vegan's judgement when ordering. The main note here is to still ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS. It wasn't until my third visit that it was revealed to me that Ana's sandwich (with sautéed mushrooms, melted Swiss cheese, onions, tomato, mayo and mock turkey)was griddled in BUTTER. But there's more, much more... The first time I ordered it a few months back, I asked the server to make any appropriate changes to make sure it was vegan. The server said she was sure they had vegan mayo to sub on the sandwich as well. When the order came out, the bread was suspiciously greasy, but trusting that the server made the right notes to the kitchen, and since she was so conscientious upon taking my order, I didn't question it. Everything else about it tasted so right. The second time I ordered the same thing only from a different server. Requested vegan as I did the first time. The only difference this visit was the cheese. It came as the menu described: with Swiss. Full-on dairy milk Swiss. I called our server over to ask him about this and he ASSURED me that the cheese was Daiya brand non-dairy, but the flavor was too dead-on for that to be true. Besides, the first time I had this sandwich, it DID have the yellow colored sliced Daiya cheese which I recognized right away. Ugh. Cut to the third scene where we got the same server as the first visit. Not giving up on the sandwich, I ordered it again, this time cautious to hit all the questions that had been building up. And BOOM. All suspicions were confirmed. The Swiss is NOT VEGAN. The mayo that came on the second sandwich was certainly NOT VEGAN. Upon asking, it was confirmed that Swami's griddles their sandwiches in real dairy butter. If you want this sandwich to be vegan, ask to substitute the Swiss for vegan cheese (Daiya, specifically...it's yellow in color), get the bread toasted dry, not griddled, and skip the mayo. Hating that I didn't clarify everything I needed to know up-front the first time. ASK,ASK, ASK. Don't brush off your gut instinct when the food comes either. We got here around 10:30am on a Sunday and a table for 2 only took 5-10 min! There's inside searing and a semi-covered patio outside with a lot more seating. The outside is pup friendly. :) We also lucked out and got free street parking right outside. Full breakfast meals range from $10-15 and were worth every cent! We had "the works" omelet, the "Santa Fe turkey" omelet, and we split a giant strawberry banana pancake. All of that + 2 coffees = $39. The service was quick and friendly and the food was top notch! Everything was really fresh and tasted like it had been cooked in the healthiest of ways. We stopped in here over the weekend on a whim. It was 1pm and my husband was craving breakfast and I wanted lunch. The weather was perfect so it would've worked out nice except the table next to us was a little annoying. Frat boys from out of town who were hung over and felt the need to relive their evening at the brunch table. Loud and obnoxious! Despite the obnoxious frat boys at the next table, our outing overall was considered a success. The waiter even apologized for the rowdy table and offered to move us mid way through our meal. We appreciated the offer and decided to stay put because the alternative was near 3 big dogs and I could see the hair flying loose in the air and that didn't seem appetizing. The good news is, the service, food and company (at my table anyway) was great. I went with a tuna melt sandwich and my husband went with a single pancake. I was a little worried that the single pancake wouldn't be enough for him but our waiter assured us the serving size was pretty large and it'll be plenty. He was right, it was plenty as they filled the entire size of the plate and were nice and thick. My tuna melt was prepared PERFECTLY! Crispy buttery bread and the tuna mixture was not too heavy and seasoned well. The mayo was not overpowering. I ordered this with french fries and together, this meal left me satisfied. It probably wasn't the healthiest of options but I didn't care. I needed the treat and it was worth the splurge. I saw a couple of bloody mary's go by and I was a little envious. I have lived in Carlsbad for over 6 years now and finally decided to give Swamis a shot. I should have read the reviews first. I've worked in a lot of restaurants and kitchens in my day and I have to say, this is the nastiest restaurant I've been to in ever. I sat outside on the patio in front of the kitchen and there is a box of Sysco sauerkraut and a Sysco box of Albacore tuna outside, in the sun just outside of the kitchen. Nothing says fresh ingredients and a violent case of diarrhea like perishable food product sitting in the sun for well over an hour (at least). After I had been sitting for 45 minutes a kitchen guy put the kraut away, but left the tuna. Food was mediocre, at best. I also watched a man clearing plates from dirty tables, walk to the trash can and scrape the food off the plates. Then he piled the plates in the bus pan, which is outside(why?) touching all the dirty utensils and glasses and plates. Then he proceeded to walk up to seat people, he took them to their table then grabbed clean silverware to give them. Then to top it all off, he then grabs clean cups and fills them with water and brings them to the table too. Did he wash his hands you ask? Nope. I will never go back and I will most certainly never recommend this place. In retrospect, I should have just turned and walked out. read more

I've been to all of the Swami establishments and they all have their pluses and minuses. This one is no different. Minuses: -kinda weird layout. It almost seems to be an inverted version of other restaurants and that seems to mess with the overall flow and servers' abilities to manage everyone -no hard alcohol so the Bloody Mary drinks are not quite authentic Pluses: -best acai bowl, hands down -carnivores and veggies can happily coincide in peace here -they make avocado on toast. So Swami's opens up and all of a sudden the other Carlsbad local breakfast and lunch spots start to disappear from my mind. It's good, and I even have the pictures to prove it. The menu has an air of "healthiness" to it, but we always seem to bring the calorie count up by adding more flavor to it. You know, sides and sauces. But I'll leave that to you and your ordering ways. Pricing is comparable to other local casual restaurants, so your wallet won't be that much lighter. You have plenty of options to choose from, and they have a fairly large menu so you're not limited. If you like fish, try the Ahi salad with balsamic drizzled on top. I've had it a couple of times and it doesn't disappoint. Just ask for extra of the balsamic, as the dressing they use is really light. The sweet potato fries are awesome, and even better dipped in ranch. So try those out if you are a fan. I've also tried the mahi mahi wrap, tuna sandwich and tortilla soup. All are good, and the soup is pretty filling. Although I didn't try the Acai bowl, I did see a table down from us order it up. And it looked pretty damn good. I'll be trying that next. If you can get a seat facing PCH, or the 101 (Carlsbad calls it Carlsbad Blvd, but we all know its PCH) on a nice day it's actually really nice and makes for a relaxing outing. This means more to me than just a new restaurant opening, it's a sign that Carlsbad may be the next "cool" beach town...AKA rent in the area will skyrocket soon. I had the soy chorizo breakfast burrito with tofu & soy cheese instead of the eggs and feta it normally comes with. Keepin' it vegan! With a side of home fries and salsa, I was only able to eat half of the burrito and most of the potatoes. To drink: Yerba Mate served in a big white mug. My BF ordered the belgian waffle, not realizing it was whole wheat with fruit, granola, and nuts - he liked it! He also had a side order of eggs and bacon. Coffee report: Good Coffee! Total for our breakfast: $24 Our server (yes, there is table service at this location) was friendly, but forgot our waters that we ordered and seemed really busy. The restaurant wasn't very full, but I can see this place filling up REALLY quickly in the future...once everyone knows of its existence! Took a chance on this little place that is not much to look at from the street but a review of the menu on a "walk by" and a personal recommendation by a cute young couple sitting by entry convinced us to give it a try. I don't know the intended vibe of the newest Swami's outpost, but this comfortable, full service cafe, to me, conveyed a little bit of Mexico with its furniture, fiesta ware, cobbled together dining areas, and melodic voices from the kitchen. I've almost always been disappointed with any lobster dish that wasn't just a plain whole tail, but the Lobster Benedict was plenty flavorful and meaty, and quite the deal at $9.95! Though the amount of Hollandaise sauce looked a little skimpy, it really didn't need more, and afterwards, I felt good about myself rather than fat and overindulged. Over his Santa Fe Turkey Omelette, HG asked if it was the best LB I'd ever had, and I guess it was since I didn't offer him a bite... didn't feel so good about myself then... The staff seemed very eager to please. They weren't very busy at Monday brunch time, but the bottlenecks to all the dining areas made me wonder about the wisdom of our waitress serving the sidewalk tables and the main interior. We accidentally found this place while looking for another brunch spot down the road. It was SO good we came back the next day! I am a vegetarian and the BF is a hard-core meat eater, it was SO nice to find a place that had veggie substitutes for any dish. The first day I got the Eggs Benedict with mock bacon and potatoes (the potatoes are not anything special so save your carbs and go with the fruit -wish I had). We sat down and barely placed the order and a minute after our waitress left our table the fish tacos showed up. Well, I guess the waitress decided to give the fish tacos to our table and not have food go to waste. What they did not realize was the fish tacos after sitting for over 20 MINS was COLD and SOGGY. How do you serve that to a customer? Especially when we saw the plate come out...you brought it back to the kitchen and then served the same plate to US? The Protein Wrap tasted bitter. Each bite tasted like red onion with the mole sauce. You over powered the wrap with red onion. The red onion was sliced too thick and mixed with the other ingredients it tasted horrible.
