My wife's breakfast was ok. The place badly needed a cleaning. My wife sat on the bench seating side with me across from her. There was layers of dust and chunks of dried out old food between the bench back and the seat all the way down the length of the inside seating area, it was gross. They have a self-serve coffee bar with a bunch of different flavored coffees, which is a great idea, but there was coffee spatters, sugar spills, and cream spills all over the place including on the self service stack of "clean" cups, 3 rows up, nasty. Doesn't look like anyone has cleaned this thing all day. They had piles of boxes & storage things stuffed and stacked in the main restaurant area, felt like we were eating in the store room. With the amount of staff just standing around looking at their phones, they could have been cleaning, it badly needs it. This could be a go to restaurant, nice big menu, good food, nice staff, but the cleanliness was bad, bad bad. Anyway, I walked into this place, and I gotta say: The decor is very clean and nice looking. I was starving and I ordered a stack of blueberry pancakes. Out came a large stack of three pancakes after maybe 20 minutes? It almost seemed like too much food for one person to eat, but again, I was hungry. They were good, nothing spectacular. Came here a couple weeks ago. Tried going to a nearby taco place for early lunch but couldn't find parking. Saw this place nearby and got a parking spot. Ate outside in a shaded booth (perfect for a sunny comfortable day) with our dog! Were greeted by a nice gal who came back with a water bowl for our pup! Swami's Cafe is a great local place for breakfast and/or lunch. They are only open from 7AM to 3PM. I arrived about 2:30PM and it was just before their kitchen closes. I was able to get seated and served fairly promptly. I ordered their Spinach Salmon Salad which was not only HUGE, but it was actually very good. It comes with honey mustard dressing which had just the right ratio of honey and mustard to my liking. The salad is a LOT of spinach! I would prefer using a spring mix for the salad base to make it even better. The young staff also provided great service and was attentive. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Overall, I enjoyed my lunch and would definitely recommend Swami's Cafe for a casual breakfast or lunch in the Escondido area. read more

Definitely in the top 5 for Breakfast locations in Escondido. Not a bad seat in the place if you are asking me. I love their patio, but sitting inside you'll get a very open feel with their jungle vine inspired dividers, large doors and windows that bring a lot of the outdoor atmosphere inside. They have self serve coffee!! They also have a semi-large bar for the space. The bar sports a few TVs and roughly 18 seats. If you enjoy caffeine or alcohol for your breakfast outing; coffee, mimosa, Bloody Mary, or any other concoctions are on the menu. The food is great! I had the Swami, which is two eggs cooked your style, two pieces of bread (I went with English muffin), then I went with the potatoes. Some things never change! This place has excellent food with poor service. I hadn't been back in a few years, well because their service has been subpar every time I ate there. Decor-cool indoor/outdoor restaurant with a large amount of outdoor space to enjoy the weather. Service-always a downer here. You just have to wait, wait, and wait for everything. Wait to order, wait for anything extra needed, wait to get your check, and wait to pay the check. Found a hair in my pancake last time I was there and the waiter just said "sorry" and had to wait FOREVER for another one. Food-probably the best banana pancakes I've ever had, they are fluffy, flavorful and huge. Large chunks of perfectly ripe bananas and perfectly crafted batter make this an awesome pancake. The place is really cute. The food is not good, the coffee is horrible. My 1st cup I grabbed was completely filthy on the inside, caked on whatever it is so I get another cup. The coffee is not even hot. The services is just nothing spectacular. We came in this morning and we sit down and the lady comes in takes our order, normal but just straight to the point. No good morning. I ordered a single pancake with some scrambled eggs and some sausage. My husband ordered the cheese omelette with potatoes and toast. Our food comes out pretty fast. My sausage is cold. My pancake looks beautiful, but they give you these little things of butter, so I open it and I put it on my pancake And then I go to pour the syrup and it barely comes out of the Spicket that they have on the table. I counted 20 seconds before it even started to pour a little bit. I gave up. The place could be so much better. I ate all of my eggs but a little corner piece off the sausage and probably two small bites of my pancake and she comes up and asks, do you need a box? No thank you. So I pay her , to tip them the lowest was 18% out of the four options. I asked her where is the 15% and she goes you just have to make it up. For a really crappy breakfast and then they want you to pay 18% is head shaker. We will never come back there. You're better off going to McDonald's and there's much better places to go for breakfast. Weirdest breakfast place ever. read more

When I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly we were seated -- less than two minutes, which was a great start. The staff was friendly and efficient in getting us to our table, and the service overall was smooth and welcoming. ordered the blueberry pancakes, and at first, they looked and tasted great. The blueberries added a nice sweetness, and the outside had a good texture. Unfortunately, when I got to the center of the pancakes, I realized they were undercooked. The batter in the middle was still raw -- not creamy or custard-like, just plain uncooked. That was disappointing, and I ended up not finishing them. On a brighter note, the potatoes and bacon were delicious -- crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was really nice as well. The dim lighting combined with the greenery and plants created a cozy, relaxed vibe that made the space feel inviting. Despite the issue with the pancakes, the experience had its positives. The artichoke & chicken sausage omelette was a decent sized portion. I bit into something hard and woody and it turned out to be a vegetable stem of some sort that was inedible. The vegetable & egg burrito was a decent size too and had fresh veggies in it. Both entrees were bland and lacked flavor & salt so thankfully the orders came with a side of salsa that we used to give some flavor. Each table has Tabasco sauce too. Entrees come with side options which we choose cut up fruit. The fruit was alright but some pieces we could tell had been cut up a while ago and were discolored. Table service was ok. Self serve at the coffee bar and for tea. Unlimited coffee & tea. Best thing was the selection of coffees and milks for coffee. Prices were reasonable. I'm pretty sure they got sold again because I went for my birthday and it was as good as it was with the first owners in 2019! I'm so happy the food is back on track because this place is amazing! We arrived around 1pm. They were busy but not super busy. There were about 3 or 4 other tables available inside, but they sat us right next to the kitchen. It was a little annoying because there was constant in and out of people passing eight next to me. I kept flinching because I thought the swinging door was going to hit me. The waitress took our order, someone else brought our food and she didn't come back to ask if we needed anything or to refill our drinks. We had to get up and get our own A1 sauce bottle. She only showed up at the end to give us our check and ask if I wanted a box. The food was ok, nothing amazing that would have me coming back to eat here after the not so great service they gave us. I had the steak sandwich, which I would rate a 7 out of 10. It had some flavor, but not a lot. I had to add salt, pepper and A1 to make it taste a bit better. My husband has the chicken enchiladas. This was our first time trying Swami's. It wsn't a bad experience, service was spot on and the portions and prices are more than fair. I ordered two things that looked really good from the Yelp reviews, the clam chowder and the Montreal steak salad. The meat on the salad was delicious, and the salad ingredients were very fresh and plentiful. However, the salad dressing had no real flavor to it at all. I expected it to be much bolder, more like a Chimichurri. It needed acid desperately and more seasoning. I probably would not order this again. The clam chowder which has several great reviews here, was a real let down to me. It had so many carrots in it, they should have called it carrot chowder. There were very few clams and the broth, though the proper texture tasted like a cream of chicken soup rather than a clam chowder. I love good eastern chowder and this didn't do it at all. My husband had the ahi wrap, he said it was OK, but nothing special. The french fries were terrific though. I think we will come back to have breakfast as all the breakfasts that were served looked wonderful. We probably won't come for lunch again, or lunch foods anyway. read more

I got the Eggs Benedict with option of vegan bacon avocado or bacon. I chose avocados and it made the dish suuuuper creamy. Almost too creamy. If I get this again I will choose probably the meat substitute instead. It also came with the side of house potatoes and it came with home salsa that paired well with the eggs. The potatoes were nicely seasoned. Everyone else at our table enjoyed their food and there was little left on the plates after breakfast. I wanted to like this place. It's close to home and it's nicely decorated. It has brought life back to this part of Escondido. The service was just lackluster. Our dinner (mediocre flavors at best) took forever to come out - over 30 mins. They were not busy at all. 4 other tables were occupied. The 4th table was just getting seated while we were waiting for our food. We were told that they were waiting on the kids' mac and cheese to bring everything out at once. Oh, great... that means the mac and cheese entrees will be the only thing that's warm when it's served. Sure enough, my food was cold to the touch and other dishes were a tad bit warmer than room temperature. We have food allergies and mentioned it to our server. He said he would verify that there were no eggs in the mac and cheese and get back to us. Once our food arrived, we had to ask again if it contained egg because he never came back to confirm. Cue to the hungry kids looking at their food and waiting for someone to tell them it's safe to eat. :| The seats lack cushion so you're stuck waiting for your food all the while being uncomfortable. The Pros: - Lots of gluten-free offerings on the menu. - I ordered the day's omelette special and it was good. - Good decaf coffee. The Cons: - The gluten-free offerings don't appear to be safe for someone with celiac. - I was also surprised at being told no when I asked if the potatoes or hashbrowns would be safe (!) I thought with all the GF offerings I'd be able to have potatoes:/ - Husband ordered something, requesting no tomatoes- tomatoes were all up in his dish. - You order at the front, pay, then sit, which is fine, except... it requires you to tip before being served... Also it's also really just self-serve once you sit down anyway (!) - Apparently there was some kind of conference group of 12 or 13 people there and after eating they were all standing around in groups chatting and it felt like we were smack in the middle of a convention hall (not the desired atmosphere for breakfast). I visited Swami's with a friend and her daughter as they live nearby and they wanted to come. The wait was about 20 minutes on a Sunday morning. There was a large section of the outside patio that was wide open but it was closed. I assume that they did not have enough wait staff to man the section. We were seated inside. It was comfortable but not stunning. They didn't seem to have a theme other than "natural." There is a pretty "live" wall of plants that make up the restaurant name. That was the only thing that stuck out in my mind of the décor. I ordered the Swami's Sunrise. It wasn't very memorable. To eat, I got the ABC (avocado, bacon and cheese) omelet. It came with homestyle potatoes and toast. It was a good size. The avocado was a little small on the serving size and it was a bit brown. There was quite a bit of bacon and cheese. It was okay. I think our server's name was Jayson. He was pleasant but didn't check on us to see if we needed anything. He seemed a little overwhelmed. My friend told me that the location moved recently so maybe there was turnover in staff and they are still working out the kinks. The parking is quite challenging as there isn't a dedicated parking lot. There are side streets so you may have to park down the street and walk. Both the food and service were fine. Will I return? In my opinion their fries are the best in Escondido! As for items, I got the wrap which was tasty. I want to revisit again and try a few more items. Definitely recommend this place.
