Came for a catch up dinner with a friend. We were seated rather quickly but we were seated in front of open windows so you couldn't lean back and you were effectually right next to people sitting outside and people's cigarette smoke wafted into our space which I did not care for. We tried the thanksgiving egg rolls which were really good they really did taste like thanksgiving dinner. Then I had the popcorn chicken. The only down side is was I asked for extra ranch which I did get but they gave me blue cheese ranch and I hate blue cheese. Would of been nice if they told me that they had two different kinds and asked which one I wanted. My fired had a side salad and fries. The side salad was a very nice portion. Hands down the worlds best Mac and cheese, I didn't know that it could taste this incredible. Just the right amount of goey cheese pull, mixed with cheesy sauce & al dente cavatapi pasta! The ambience is very nice and down to earth, lots of people and conversations and it's your typical neighborhood Astoria joint, be warned those under 21 at 9 they have a bouncer to try and keep the young people out because it has a more bar atmosphere (nothing changes Its pompous and stupid) My Advice, you have to get the Mac & Cheese it's seriously incredible and filling. Went to this place for brunch with friends. We sat in the patio in the back. Really nice space! Of course, we started with Witte Screwdriver which is Screwdriver with Wheat Beer - a must-try! It turned out really nice. Since I love Wheat Beer, I just kept ordering this. Then we had Beer Battered Fried McClure's Brooklyn Pickles (what a name!) . It tasted good with the smokey sauce - another must-try. Finished the meal with medium rare Sweet After Breakfast Burger. I was full and tipsy, and I loved it! One of if not my most favorite bar in the neighborhood. The service and cocktails here are top notch. The food menu is small, but I've yet to order something I didn't like. Their outdoor seating is perfect and I can't wait until they are able to open back up fully again. The typical atmosphere is really chill. I will start by saying prepare your wallet. Basic cheese burger is already $16 add bacon and you now go up to $18, be aware no fries come with a burger. Now that is insane that for $18, i have to pay to additional $$ to get French fries. That's like a mortal sin. Now dont get me wrong they have a very good selection of beers priced reasonable during happy hour. However, even with a great selection of beers, the service is just ok. Our server was nice but at no point did she go out of the way to make me feel her service deserved 18% gratuity. So that brings me to the final check, when i received the check at the end of my meal the check had a suggested 18%, 20% and 25% pre calculated gratuity, i say thats a ballsy move on behalf of management. While i inderstand the servers depend on their tips, the servers need to be pro active and diligent with customers to make sure they are always anticipating customers needs. At no point did i feel my server went out of their way during my meal. I will tell you that my burger was cooked to perfection, the bacon was super crispy, the no fries with my $18 burger was upsetting due to the size of me burger patty. The $10 fee to add fries to my burger was necessary but now my burger becomes a $28 cheese burger deluxe? Really? I can tell you, i will not be coming back. Final bill for 3 ppl (2 burgers, 1 side order of fries and 2 fish tacos) was $95 Really expensive. read more

Very busy and cute restaurant. I gave three stars because the cocktails were weak (and I am a cheap date/lightweight/economical drinker), service was a bit sparse, and my food was meh. I got the breakfast sandwich that has fried chicken, sausage gravy and an egg. Sausage gravy is my jam, this was not jamming. Not to say the food was bad, because it wasn't; just what I chose was unremarkable. It was a very hot day and although the air conditioning was on, it's positioning near the front door and no fan to push the air around left it still warm where we were sitting. Maybe because of covid they don't want fans on? They have a bottomless brunch option. For $25 I think you get somewhere between an hour and a half and two hours to pound as many drinks as you can between 10am-3:30pm. They have a gorgeous enclosed garden area to dine, but it does get a lot of light, so it can get hot. Anyway, we hung around for a while and were not rushed, which was nice, but we moved on elsewhere to get better air conditioning and drinks that get the job done. read more

Sweet Afton was the perfect venue to celebrate my husband's surprise 70th birthday gathering which was recommended by our daughters who frequent this gastropub. We reserved the garden glass patio which accommodates maximum 25 guests with the help of event planner Tali who ensured the evening was a complete success. Great service, great food (I recommend the artichoke dip), but this is one of the few restaurants where the ambiance is the star. There's brick, dark wood, and warm low light that makes you feel like you're a moody writer in their 1800's log cabin. So sad to write this review because I genuinely love the drinks and the food here. The max and cheese and the fish tacos are slamming, the pickle martini is delicious. I've ate outside so many times and it's always been great. However, now that it's winter I called ahead to see if they had high chairs since we'd be eating inside- the hostess put me on hold and came back and said "actually we don't allow kids- it's a bar" I was like okay, wow and completely taken back by it. I could've just went with the baby and his portable high chair but didn't want to carry it if I didn't have to. The main reason for this review is that my gf happened to go 30 mins later with her daughter and they happily accepted them. Sweet Afton, although in Astoria, transported me to a little gastropub in southern England. The decor is that of a revolutionary war era tavern and the food is comforting and delicious.
