Sweet Bert's breakfast and lunches are fabulous. The breakfast sandwich comes with both a green and fruit salad which I LOVE. Healthy and delicious with gluten green bread option. They also use minimal plastic for to go orders. I rarely order food to go anymore, but once in a great while it's convenient. Sweet Beet is neat, clean and attractive. The patio seating is really nice. The salads are always fresh. It's a small restaurant but they care about doing good work. Oh! And they not only have beer and wine but they have hard alcohol too which they use to create really tasty drink specials. read more

Pros: amazing home grown food! Cute and sweet place and outdoor seating. Staff are pleasant. Cons: wait in line to order (counter sevice), get your own water and etc... and bus your own tables. The line moved slowly. Prices are higher for this area and for counter service. The food is worth it though except the bacon was super crispy and dry. We will be back, but I'm not a fan of counter service for sit down Places and hope they will change it some day. read more

I really am torn between a 4 or 5 stars. Reasons for the Cons that other Yelp reviews have pointed out like long lines or long waits are really not things I feel a little café has much control over due to space limitations and thereby staff limitations. I came around 8am on a Friday. I am definitely going to make time to come and try out some wine another day. 1. The man at the counter was really very warm and welcoming. Especially to my son who is as picky as you can get and had no idea what to order. 2. The food is good. Fresh ingredients and great portions. I have zero complaints. I got the egg breakfast and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My son got the scone and although he picked out every single cranberry he could find, he devoured the rest. 3. The café is super cute. It is snug but again - you cant do much about that. Talent is a small town and the café fits. I think its a great place to grab a bite if you aren't in a rush to get in and get out. Quality is key and I appreciate that about Sweet Beet. read more

Small and unassuming, this place is a real gem! I think it's a little hard to categorize because it's open so much, but they actually do things really well. I've been here for lunch, and the sandwiches are top. Itch, unique, and a good value (they come with a yummy side salad or soup). That theme runs through the other things I've had here too: I finally made it in for breakfast, and the French toast was generous, beautifully presented, and really tasty! For the price especially, it was s real bargain, and it was some of the best French toast I've had! Walnut butter and whipped cream with great bread, cooked right! After trying in vain to find a breakfast spot that makes both my partner and I happy......this may just be it! The coffee is just spectacular. Robust and hearty......I planned on drinking more, but I was taken in by my breakfast. I went straight to the core for this trip: Bagel and Lox. It's a bold move, if you're a a fan......because there's a LOT here to go terribly wrong, if you miss the mark. Happy to report that was far from the case here! The bagel was perfectly toasted, and obviously artisan quality. Chewy, hearty, perfect seasonings. I opted for the "everything" bagel, and it certainly didn't disappoint! The salmon? Yeah.....this is where it can all get kinda messy. Nope.....it was SPECTACULAR! Flaky, creamy, beautiful texture.....I would have just been happy with that! But wait..... The capers? Yep, perfect. Frequently, these can be dodgy too......either a bit crunchy, or weirdly salty. These were tender green nuggets of goodness. Absolutely FRESH baby heirloom tomatoes! They different varieties added immensely. There was a little bowl of delicately done pickled onions......here too, an artist's touch. They were still crunchy.....but mellowed and enhanced. I could literally eat them solo. The whipped cream cheese was even just perfect. Then, olives. This was a new one.....but I went with it. They were GREEN?! I worried in vain. They too, were absolutely delicious. Not "green olives"......but some tasty little savory nuggets made by an olive guru. I usually gotta drive pretty far into California olive country to get things like these. All together, my only regret is that I was a bit too eager to dive in......and didn't snap my usual pic or two. The plate was nicely presented, so I'm kinda ashamed of myself! My lady opted for the standard two eggs.....with a refreshingly interesting salad and mini baguette. I felt kinda sorry for her! But, she is really no easier to please than I can be.....and tucked in enthusiastically. I KNOW the bread was well taken......it disappeared super quick! (And she has a Frenchwoman's scorn for poorly done bread.). Between mouthfuls, she assured me it was quite wonderful. The salad was commented on just as favorably. Sadly, we were in a bit of a hurry.....because the setting in this old train-station turned Ashland-renaissance cafe' begged for more time than we had to give it. Downtown Talent is up and coming for ambiance and hang-ability.....and this is exactly the sort of place that is a prime reason why. An hour or so on the quiet streets on a Sunday, sitting in the Fall sun and watching the leaves in the park across the street, is a perfect way to deal with a weekend morning. We will be back! (And I'll update) Oh......if you're following the Yelp directions, turn in early! The only driveway adjacent is the "out" driveway for the city parking.......we had to do a bit of jockeying to find it. This restaurant is full of good intention and has good ingredients, but it sort of fell flat for me. I tried the fancy grilled cheese, which was ham, cheese, and pineapple chutney when I ate here. Somehow the cheese wasn't salty or satisfying enough to cut through the sweetness of the pineapple chutney. It came with a side salad, which was good and nicely dressed. My partner tried the chicken salad sandwich, which was advertised as a cold sandwich, but came on hot, toasted bread. It wasn't a bad thing but the it just wasn't what he was expecting. The chicken salad had a ton of red onion in it so that was very strong, and it didn't come together we'll somehow.
