Tried this spot today with my kiddo and it was delicious! The decor and mural artwork is really cool and funky. I think they have just had a soft open so far and are working out the flow. The staff that was at the bar helped me navigate how to order via the QR code on the table and it was easy to place and pay for my order (and include tip) before getting our food. They got us water and made us feel very at ease. Grabbed our own plate and to-go box which was actually kinda nice to be able to come and go at our own pace, even though I felt a little awkward (could just be a me thing lol). They have an arcade in the back section which looks really fun! There's also a stage area where it looks like they can set up for live music, etc. Good set up with TVs in the bar area and looks like they have some interesting brews on tap. The "soft open menu" has a lot of options with dogs and burgers and loaded fries. I chose the Road Rash dog which is basically a chili cheese dog but with tons of sour cream and bacon on top. I got it without any onions but it does come with onion scallions and tomatoes in addition to the cheese and chili. The chili had great flavor! The hot dog had the perfect snap to it and the bun was SO SOFT yet had a little crisp on the outside. It is MASSIVE! I could only finish half of it - so if you visit, come hungry! The French fries I gave to my kiddo since he's not much into hot dogs but I did try a couple for good measure they were big and very flavorful. They were cooked just right - not soggy or overcooked. I only gave the 4 because I was just a little confused on seating ourselves and ordering at first... If I could do half stars I would go up to 4.5. Going strictly on flavor, it's a 5! You will not find another place quite like this, in any way, shape, form, color, etc.! Before going, stretch out all of your senses and muscles. You will absolutely need to do this. Visually, your eyes will have no idea where to look and take in the atmosphere. Every inch in every possible axis looks different. The decor in here is something else. Imagine you were driving on a road and you came up to a three vehicle accident where an old school arcade, a van of graffiti artists and a record store collided. If you woke up precisely in the middle of this wreckage, this is what it would look like. It's awesome! Before your brain begins to scramble, it's a restaurant, with a bar, with arcade and pinball games, that sometimes hosts events on their stage. Okay? You get that? Yes, it can be confusing for some, but it's pretty simple when you think about it and/or let your Xanax kick in. The food is where we ramp up to the next gear. If the decor hasn't already clued you in, this is NOT your average Hot Dog / Burger joint. It's not. So don't complain that it's not, because, as I've said and will say again, it's NOT! Like the ambiance and, from what I hear, the owner - it's different. Read their menu and/or website for all the "house made", "locally sourced", "hand churned", "blah-bibbity-blah'd" information. Fine. Great. Local. Homemade. But is it good? I've had a couple of the Hot Dogs. I have to say, out of the gate, I'm a true blue Chicago Style Hot Dog guy. So, for me, messing with hot dogs is like renaming the Sears Tower or moving the Bears to the suburbs. It's no longer a hot dog. It's something else. And, these are something else. Read the reviews! People love these. Once you mentalize that these are not "hot dogs", as we know them, you'll understand that these are either culinary genius or disasters. Possibly a combination of both. Somehow, they work and they work well. Keep one more thing in mind - If you're a 2 or 3 hot dog guy or gal (you know who you ladies are!!!!), I wouldn't take that bet here. Pace yourself. Look at some of the food on other peoples tables. Hell, see if if they'll give you a taste or do what I do; simply ask, "you gonna finish that?" Works every time. The Burgers. Oh my (insert higher power or evil deity here)!!! Real quick.... go jump in front of a mirror and take a look at your head. You see how big you head is? Yeah, that's a Legit Burger. Again, read their menu for all the disclaimers of support, but then read the creations. Much like their wiener cousins, the burgers are also creations from another planet. I have had one and it was good. This is not your average single-hand job here. This is a two-hand job. (I am well aware of what I did there, twice.) You shan't be picking this up like a Scottish Drive Thru Value "burger". You will need a fork truck or pallet jack, a 12' x 12' tarp, 4 rolls of shop towels, a bottle of lube and one aspirin, because YOU GONNA FEEL THIS BAD BOY FROM START TO FINISH. I've never had a burger that made my arms sore for the next three days. I spent the entire next day trying to remember if I worked out or fought a Silverback. Then I remembered...... it was that gargantuan Legit Burger that I blacked out in the middle of. It was pretty fantastic. Only comment would be that, even though the bun is good, it's a lot of bread. I think I left some of the bun behind. The fries are killer. Read the menu to get the history and story on the fries, because I didn't, I won't and I don't care. The fries are good. Okay.... some other weird things. Some people comment that they're not sure if it's a seat yourself or wait to be seated. Yes, it is not entirely clear. However, there isn't a sign. No sign, not my problem. I give them 3 beats and I'm sitting wherever I want. The ordering situation - You can do it all from the QR Code inspired system you pull up on your phone or, if I remember correctly, they do have physical menu's. I can't recall if you MUST pay on the app/online or if you can pay in person. I've only done it online. The drinks - It is serve yourself. And, going with their theme of "let's not be like any other eating establishment that ever has existed or will exist in the future, it's not a big soda fountain bar that is illuminated and plastered with Big Cola marketing artwork. It does kind of look like an area that is only for workers of the establishment and not for the public. Just go get your drink already. If you're not supposed to be there, they'll tell you. The service has always been great, the few times that I've been there. Happy, helpful and really easy. Would I go back? I've been a few times now. It's tricky for me because, as I said before, I'm old school with my dogs. But, this isn't typical. So, if I want different, I've gone here a few times and have even brought colleagues who have also enjoyed it. I will be back, for sure. read more

Just checked this place out at the recommendation of a coworker. Great vibes from the minute you enter. Staff is helpful for those not familiar from ordering (a QR code on the table) and they also offer the option of a laminated menu so you can peruse the menu not from a device. Although there's no conventional servers, There are staff that comes around and cleans areas/table and asks you how your food is. Playlist is stellar--food, outstanding!!! my spouse, and I ordered the standard Chicago style hotdog, which was waaaaaay more than what we expected and above and beyond with the Goombah fries. Love that they offer a full bar and you can sit either there or a table. They have a large screen for films/viewing and also have live shows/events on occasion. The atmosphere is awesome and the food is delicious. The reason I didn't score it higher. The customer service is lacking, extremely lacking. You are greeted at the door. However, you're told to use the QR code to place your order. The menu navigation is horrific. There's no assistance from the employees. To top it off, my order arrived, and it was wrong. The two ladies working didn't know what to do. I ended up not worrying about it. When I was about to leave, I needed boxes for my leftover food. The two ladies ignored me. I went in mid-afternoon with a high maintenance order due to food allergies. The person taking the order, chef/cook in the kitchen and the owner could not have been nicer, more helpful, or more patient helping me navigate options. Everything I ordered was a plain version of menu items and still delivered on flavor, quality, and quantity. It was also to go and well packed, still warm when I got home Plain double cheeseburger on a really good brioche bun - nice sized patties, juicy and flavorful - delicious! "On the dock" fries (deconstructed Reuben on fries): delicious corned beef with a generous portion in nice sized pieces so you knew what you were eating. I'm allergic to potatoes and am not a fan of fresh cut fries - I tried one and then another and more because they were so good, I'll take the allergy hit this one time :). Veggie hot dog: any meat alt item can be "different", more so when every topping is omitted. My first bite was "interesting". I dipped it in thousand island for the second bite and never looked back :). Nothing I ordered is intended to be void of any toppings/condiments so I was impressed at the levels of flavor. Also had the veggie dog on another delicious and fresh brioche bun. The decor/vibe invites you to sit, walls are cool, and I liked the shelf of games. There is a stage for live music and stand up. Was in Elgin house shopping with my daughter and granddaughters. She suggested stop we here for hot dogs knowing my affinity for a good Chicago style dog. We were seated immediately and noticed the play area with free video games for kids and old school pin ball machines for adults like a classic James Bond Dr No. Very nice for families. We ordered our food and drinks on our phones via QR codes. Then we waited and we waited some more for our food. While the kids stayed somewhat entertained with the free video games, my daughter and I waited even more. After about half an hour our drinks arrived. Then we waited another half and hour and still no food. At this point we were ready to leave. Finally someone came by and apologetically stated that they were having some glitches that were causing delays with our order. I was not in the mood to wait anymore (actually I was hangrey, hadn't eaten for 8 hours) and therefore starving and was willing to leave. The server apologized and said that they could get our order to us in ten minutes for which I was doubtful after waiting for about an hour. Then everything changed. it wasn't even ten minutes when to our surprise the food arrived. I ordered Chicago style hotdogs, as expected and fries. Note: I have had the same type of hotdogs at many venues in the Chicago area including downtown over the years. I am an old dog myself (73 years) so I know. I will state that the ones I had here were as good if not better than most I have eaten anywhere. Well appointed with all the trimmings, and the fries, everything was most excellent. This is one of the best comebacks on what was almost a ruined evening I can remember. On top of that our server whom unbeknownst to us happened to be the owner of the establishment and is a very nice and reasonable person comped us the entire dinner. The customer service at Legit Dogs & Ice is amazing. I came in from out of state for the sincere engineer show and was so impressed with the staff, the bar tenders, and just the all around atmosphere of the place. I had the best drink of my life there (the tropic thunder) and will be driving 3+ hours to come back just for that. The hot dogs not only taste amazing but the presentation is above and beyond. The walls are covered in homages to different punk bands and really set the mood and the vibe. If I lived closer I would be here multiple times a week. read more
