Sweet Caroline's snow shack is my favorite shaved ice truck in Austin. It is located outside of a retail strip center and has lots of parking and shady seating (although beware of the bees that are often attracted to the sugar). They have a wide variety of different flavors you can choose, but I always enjoy the "First Dance" snow cone with strawberry and wedding cake flavors and cream. Came here with a good friend who is straight up from Baton Rouge. Her response about Sweet Carolines? A thumbs up! She said it was legit. You could've stopped reading...but why the 4 stars? Let's spill the goods. The greatest things about Sweet Caroline's are that it's operated by your local students at Circle C (or students in general) and the portion size is generous. Support the hard-working younger generation and get the most of what you're paying for! We both got small sizes, and trust me...that's enough. I didn't know what I wanted, but I didn't feel a certain type of way towards these food coloring specialty flavors. I ended up making my own. You can mix up to 4 flavors!! I created my own and added gummy bears. The gummies were a positive pick. I highly recommend them! My picky reason why I docked a star? Y'all are going to laugh. I'm not used to "snowballs." I've had the Asian dessert of snow ice (which is my preference), but also Hawaiian shaved snow straight up from Maui. So it's already a competitive space to be in...as ice. I wanted toppings that weren't on this menu, like mochi, coconut flakes or fruits that I usually eat with my ice. BUT different types of ice require different toppings, right? Also, the ice was the hardest texture compared to snow ice or Hawaiian shaved ice. I like my ice smooth, I guess. I do love that they are parked in a location with plaza parking, shared with other businesses. They also have an outdoor seating area with picnic chairs, which is super comfy and shaded!! I like this little place and its relaxed atmosphere. I do not go for the super sweet items, but I do love the Watermelon. This is major brain freeze territory! I try to have a small bite, then wait a bit, then have another. I always fail. When it is hot outside I get about six bites (spoonful) in and then BAM! I did it again to myself. I finally checked in for the first time I think, as I am usually running a bunch of chores in the area and kept getting the EASY TIGER. I stopped in the other day, tried to convince myself to get something different, but just couldn't. So, I took my watermelon and started to slowly eat it, then sped up and BAM! Pleasant, cordial, courteous staff. Serene setting with plenty of shade trees and deck chairs. On the down side, prices are slightly higher than my usual place; while the small is the same price, each size from medium up is 25 to 75 cents more. Their flavors are also far more limited (47 versus 155). After telling me they no longer served the flavor I requested (which, admittedly, wasn't posted on their menu board), my server indicated they still had concentrate in that flavor, but just didn't have it prepared. I found that statement odd, in a "We have it, but you can't have any" sort of way. Sadly, pen and pad in hand, she must've thought I'd order another flavor. Instead, I told her I'd go somewhere else. so let me start by saying i've been going here for years & the snowcones are great. the girls working there have always been very nice and polite before today. i feel bad writing a bad review but i mean... wow. my boyfriend & i got there at 7:20pm. online it says they close at 8:30 (saturday, may 7th). there were 2 girls working and a pretty long line but we decided we were okay with waiting. the line got longer as we were waiting and it was taking longer than expected but we saw a sign that said one girl was training so we figured that was why and were willing to wait our turn. at 8:02 one of the girls opened the window and said "we're sorry but we aren't going to be able to make y'all's snowcones before we close." when people said "i thought y'all closed at 8:30", "we've been waiting an hour", "my kids have been waiting", etc., she responded with "no we close at 8, 8-8:30 is our closing time, so sorry guys". the line was down the sidewalk. at this point we had been waiting 40 mins and still had 3 people in front of us who had been waiting longer. no one had complained about the wait time (at least in the time we had been there), so everyone was pretty shocked. i get places close early sometimes but there's a right way to do that. i've worked in customer service for years and that's just not how you do it. even if they did close at 8, we still got there at 7:20. they should've cut off the line at 8 (or earlier if they really need to be done by 8), not told everyone who had been waiting patiently to leave. i get these girls are young and probably haven't had jobs before but whoever is in charge needs to talk to the girls who were working about this and probably clarify the closing time and how to go about closing early when necessary. they turned away probably close to 50 people fyi. not sure if they were overwhelmed but it didn't seem that way. luckily tcby is across the street, lol read more
