My family spent several days at a rental home a mile or so from Gracie's and, naturally, had to…read moregive the local diner a try. Gracie's is an elevated diner experience...all the breakfast and brunch things you could want, but up a couple levels from a classic greasy spoon diner. Not dissing the greasy spoon diner experience...love that...but this is based in that historical experience, with an overall nicer experience in terms of food and atmosphere. Also, before we get into the specifics, here are 2 words which would bring me in from just about anywhere: Donut menu. Yes, they make their own donuts here, and that's enough reason to stop in, take out, or worship at the front door. We got our donuts to go after the meal...The coffee was GREAT. Too often, coffee, which should be the opening star of a diner experience, can be flavorless, browned water. Here it was good. Bold as I needed it to be, and the perfect foundation for the rest of the meal. My next go-to if they have it brunch experience is biscuits. They have them...you can get a biscuit on its own or, heck, go for a mini biscuit basket! I live for a biscuit-forward establishment. The Full Breakfast (submitting biscuit or potatoes for the meat) would have been my choice, but I decided to roll my own and ended up with a biscuit, fruit cup, and side of Hash Browns. The biscuit was good, large, and perfect with butter and honey. They make the hash browns to order - large hash brown patties - and with 2 different orders of them at the table, one was overcooked, too brown, and not impressive...but the other was perfect and delicious...bordering on potato pancake territory in presentation and flavor. Our server was fantastic...we had a large party encompassing 3 different tables in the middle of a Sunday morning (On Easter no less), which is, of course, the busiest time of the week. She was friendly, enthusiastic, and never made us feel rushed. If I found myself in the Hudson Valley again, Gracie's would be a definite destination for me.

This a worthwhile place to pop in for a good meal in a nice…read moreriver view location. There are plenty of pleasant surprises on the menu for all sorts of diners. Our server was friendly. I hate to leave a harsh review but I see others have had the exact same complaints and this isn't my first bad experience here. Once we sat down and had our sandwich orders taken it was at least an hour till our food was out. I had to go to the kitchen after about 45 minutes and they said, oh, it is right here and brought out the bread/ biscuits app someone had asked for. Bread = 45 minutes. The rest of the entrees then trickled out slowly one by one ensuring half the table were done eating before the last salad finally arrived. We had assumed our server's shift had ended because I never saw her again in the restaurant until I went up to get the check form the cashier. She thenpopped out from somewhere to take over printing out my check. I suspect we were auto-gratuitied looking back but she never mentioned it. I failed to check and was just dying to get out of there It seemed like there were lots of staff but where are they and what are they doing?? . People at tables were just rubbernecking around looking for someone. No one was on the floor. No one was out in the tables. No one was watching food, timing, drinks, turning the tables, etc. It was busy when we arrived but almost empty by the time we left. We were there for over 2 hours. I wonder if there are systems in place that were created out of inexperience and are now the sunk cost way of running things. Are there sections? Does the hostess know how to manage pacing? Does the server understand timing and to check the tables? I don't mean to sound pedantic, I just don't think there are people here who understand that the job is to manage the flow, "but was it busy?" Yes, it is supposed to be. If you cannot serve someone, you need to wait to seat them. If you can't handle the tables, close a section. Just filling tables and figuring it out is unfair to diners. Thank god you can go to the front to get your check or we might still be there. :( No owner response needed

WHAT A SHIT SHOW!…read moreThe lobby entrance smells like an Abercrombie & Fitch store had a baby with an AXE spray commercial which was pretty nauseating. I was staying nearby and decided to check this place out because we needed to find food for a bunch of hungry kids at 1:40pm. We came as a group of 8 and saw there were available seats so we decided to eat here. Waited by the server stand and didn't get seated for 10 minutes even though there was a big table open. Whatever. Finally got seated and it took the waitress 15 min to come over and take our order. We never saw her again until an hour+ later when our food finally came out. She never even bothered to bring water to our table?! FYI: we ended up eating past 3pm. Ok, maybe they're understaffed and they're super busy? There were a total of 6 tables seated with people and 2 waitresses. Maybe that's a lot in upstate NY standard? The food was good, I'll give the cook that. But maybe the kitchen needs help so it doesn't take over an hour to bring out some eggs or avocado toast? Honestly, the food was a solid 4 star but the horrendous service was a negative so rounding this to a 2 star.

Service and environment are excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant to anybody stopping by Glen Falls House or in the Round Top area!

The sauces and jams are made in house. They sell main stream candy repackaged in general store packaging for an up charge. There's Windham and Catskill souvenirs. There's stuff made by local artists along with big box toys and items. There are a few cats living in the store and restaurant - all are super friendly. The restaurant is nice but the service is extremely slow and could be a touch nicer. There are multiple signs talking about the whole world being understaffed. Just be prepared to spend a while. The waitress was fine but clearly very busy. We had mentioned wanting to get dessert at the beginning but when we were done eating, she had just brought us our check - we were too fully anyway. I had the garden salad sandwich on farm bread. The avocado wasn't the freshest and there was only one tiny piece of tomato - this will probably be a good sandwich in peak summer. The sandwiches came with chips and salsa. The store made mango salsa is delicious. Locally made root beer in a bottle was delicious and unique. The baked goods were quite pricey (almost $9 for a small square of raspberry bread). The bathrooms are on the otherwise by the kids toys.

There is plenty of parking, lots of seating, and lots of light. My spanakopita came with probably a 4x4x2 piece of the pie, plus a large salad and serving of fries. We both took some home, which is unheard of for my husband. My husband said the wings were good, and the mozz sticks (for science, you know) hit exactly right. We'll be back someday to try their breakfast (served all day!) but until then - get yourself to the Greenville Cafe!

Communication was seamless, they helped create a custom birthday cake with flavors I requested, and the entire ordering experience was smooth and stress-free. The food was outstanding. From the bread and cinnamon rolls to the focaccia and cake, everything was fresh, delicious, and a huge hit with our group. Every item felt thoughtfully made, and it was clear why so many people rave about their bakery. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the pickup experience. I had a prepaid order of over $250 scheduled for 8:00 a.m. pickup, right when the café opened. We arrived about 15 minutes early.. because it was raining and simply hoped to wait somewhere covered until pickup time. We weren't expecting the order early or asking anyone to rush. Given the size of the order, the custom cake, and the fact that I had brought someone with me to help carry everything, we just wanted to avoid standing outside in the rain. When I knocked on the door, I could see several staff members inside. One employee looked at us and gestured toward the clock, essentially pointing out that they weren't open yet. I completely understand that we arrived early, and I respect opening hours. What bothered me was how the situation was handled. A simple "We'll be open at 8" or "Sorry, we can't let anyone in until opening" would have been perfectly reasonable. Instead, the interaction felt unnecessarily cold. Even once we were inside, the employee helping us came across as dismissive and unwelcoming. It was especially disappointing because every interaction I'd had over email leading up to the event had been so thoughtful, friendly, and accommodating. The food was exceptional, and the planning process was excellent. I just wish the same level of hospitality had carried through to the pickup experience. Had that interaction been handled with a bit more warmth, this would have easily been a 5-star review. Ratings: * Food & ambiance: 10/10 * Communication email: 10/10 * Pickup Experience: 4/10

I recently bought a weekend home in Palenville, a Hamlet of Catskill, NY…read more Even though I was hardly there this past year, I had to keep my electric baseboard heat on 24/7 to avoid freezing pipes. My electric bills were through the roof. I decided to buy a wood pellet stove to help offset these utility bills now that I expect to be there more often. After doing my research, I realized that whatever pellet stove I bought, in order to have it work efficiently and increase it's overall useful lifespan with the least amount of breakdowns, it is critical to burn a high quality pellet. What is a high quality pellet? Generally, a brand that produces minimal ash, has a low moisture content, produces the maximum amount of BTUs per pound, and is free of plastics, glues, and other non-wood substances. I also needed a reliable source that can also deliver my order when needed in a timely fashion. On the internet, everyone seems to have their favorite brand/type of pellet. Hardwoods, sotwoods, mixed, yada yada yada. I was confused. Then, Slater's Smart Shop and Wood Pellet Store was recommended to me by a local businessman and resident of the Catskills. Boy was that man right. I went over to Cairo and met the owner, Justin, and had a great experience. Justin and his Dad are the nicest people and super knowledgeable about wood pellets. They carry an EXTENSIVE choice of wood pellet types and brands. Justin, with great patience, took the time to answer all my questions and made some great recommendations and I ended up purchasing what is generally considered the BEST wood pellets on the market. The internet reviews substantiate that. I walked away with a great wood pellets purchase and the confidence that I was getting exactly what I wanted/needed for my new pellet stove to function at it's maximum efficiency. Need wood pellets? Don't purchase them from anywhere else except Justin at Slater's Stop Shop and Wood Pellet Store. If I could, I would give them 6 stars.
