    St. Honoré individual cake
    Barry W.

We picked up a St. Honoré cake and four cookies -- two smaller cookies (a chocolate-dipped shortbread and a chocolate cloud cookie) and two larger cookies (a dark chocolate with walnuts and an oatmeal craisin(?)). The cake was fabulous and the most outstanding of the items we sampled -- special and delicious. The two smaller cookies were average -- wouldn't get them again -- but the two larger cookies were very good. The dark chocolate with walnuts was the star of the show and easily the cookie we'd pick again. On the day we went -- a beautiful summer afternoon in what we hope is the tail end of the pandemic -- there were people eating outside the shop, but no one was dining indoors. I don't know if they were allowing that yet. Hand sanitizer was available upon entry, and our server wore a mask, for which we were appreciative. Parking was free in neighborhood and not hard to find. Bottom line: It may come down to knowing what to order. Our experience of the cake was five-star, the cookies maybe average out to three-star, so the rating reflects the average. But if you stick with what's good, I might say 4.5.

You don't want to miss this Sweet Obsession if you are in the Arbutus area. It is located on the W. 16th Avenue in the residential area. This little gem has varieties of sweet dessert and other bakery goods and drink selections . I had an individual St. Honoré : puff pastry, choux pastry, vanilla pastry cream, orange liquor, chocolate mousse, dark chocolate drizzle. The chocolate mousse cream puff is covered with dark chocolate drizzle on the side. The vanilla pastry cream is topped with the dark chocolate chips in the middle of this sweet treat. The bottom base is a choux pastry which tastes like the croissant . Not too sweet . The flavors are well-balanced and perfect sweetness. Taste: 5/5 Thank you for having me for the Yelp Elite Event @yelpvancouver @sweetobsessionvancouver I also bought few more bakery goods including - an Almond Croissant - a Cheese Scone - a Lemon Danish - a Pear Tart - a bag of Mocha Hazelnut Biscotti The pastries are definitely scrumptious which they are soft, buttery inside and crumble outside. The biscotti are hard, crisp, crunchy and they are good to dip in the coffee. I loved the cake I had when Sweet Obsession teamed up with Yelp for an event so thought I'd order here for our triple birthday celebration. I got the mocha torte. Requested them to make it less sweet, but they don't allow changes to the recipe. Good thing the cake wasn't too sweet. The slight bitterness of the ganache balanced out the sweetness. There's multiple layers in this cake. The box says to take it out of the fridge for 45 minutes. We can't wait and ate it after 15 minutes. It's better to wait a few more minutes for it to soften. The chocolate was high quality and design was very classy. I also picked up pear tart, apricot tart and apple turnover. The pear tart was to die for. It has half pear with crunchy almonds and a delectable layer of cream. I'd definitely get this again. The other two were just okay. Overall, great place to get your cake for any occasion. Order in advance.

Friendly staff and great looking desserts. Got the personal st.honore, not much flavor in terms of the custard filled but the Choux pastry and chocolate were delicious. Tried the almond croissant and pear danish and both were good. Simple yet not too sweet. Cherry danish was also delicious! Nice and crispy, prices are quite reasonable as well. Went during the summer so bakery was dark, I'm assuming to reduce the heat in the back however could use some brighter lighting in the front area, leds?

Pretty nice and quiet coffee shop in the Arbutus area. Parking is available along 16th Avenue. There isn't too much seating, but fortunately the place also isn't too busy. The interior isn't the most modern, but it's classy and quiet. Drinks are a bit on the pricier side, at $3-5 for a coffee type beverage, but this is the west side after all. The coffee was quite good, and so was their banana bread.

Looking for a variety of desserts? From mango cheesecake to tiramisu. This place is great to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. This place is closely located closer the west side closer the the residential area. There is plenty of parking as they have their own parking lot and there is also street parking as well. I had ordered the tiramisu as well as the hazelnut chocolate cake. These was both delicious as well as satisfying. Even better when you get some hot tea! The counter staff were very friendly and willing to take the extra time to explain what is in each dessert. They are approachable and willing to help. Personally - during birthdays or special occasion I like ordering the cakes here! I would definitely come back again if I needed to satisfy my sweet tooth.

The best patisserie in West side although it's fairly pricey. Parking is also an issue.

I was meeting a friend here yesterday who's visiting from California, and when deciding on a meeting place, we realized a bunch of the Gastown coffee roaster places were closed on Sunday, so I mentioned Breka , knowing it was opened 24/7. (LOVE this!). Plus, this site is close to Waterfront Station, and my friend had a busy day planned, taking the Seabus to N.Van and doing a lot of sightseeing. So this Breka was perfect. I was there early at 10 am-ish, and from the outset, I was impressed: exposed brick wall, long counter and display case, fully stocked with the most beautiful pastries and tarts and cakes, and lovely looking sandwiches, too....Just lovely. I ordered a tea from the guy taking the orders. At the check-out, the woman working the cashier was the most unfriendly, aloof person I have ever encountered at a Breka. She was downright dour. Never looked up, never smiled, said I owed X for the tea I ordered, gave me a receipt and said I was "number 3", no "thank you" (despite my saying thanks!), nothing. She looked really unhappy and bothered to be there. (I sat at a nearby table, waiting for my number to be called. I saw her interactions with all the people behind me - and there were quite a few, as it got suddenly busy in the cafe. She was cold and unfriendly to everyone in line as she rang them all up. These are mostly tourists! Why have a dour, borderline-hostile woman at the check-out counter of a busy cafe in a touristy part of our city? I just don't get it). Anyhow, I waited 10 minutes to hear my number called, but I never heard it. I walked up to the take-out area and there was my tea, on a receipt that said "number 3". Did they call out my number? I honestly don't know. I was seated at a table a few feet from the area and listening for my number and I didn't hear it called. I was not impressed with this set-up. Not at all. My friend arrived and got a chocolate concoction which looked amazing, and he loved it, so there's that. I still love Brekas but I probably won't return to this site. Between the cold experience at the cash and the prolonged waiting for my order (a cup of tea!), and not being sure if my order number was ever called, it just all left me with a bitter taste in my mouth.

It was a huge hit with everyone! The 6 inch cake was $69 and I added a customized birthday message on chocolate for an extra $3 which was a nice personal touch. Gary's only allows to order the fresh mango cakes up to one week ahead to ensure they have enough ripe mangos, which I admire their dedication. We ordered the 6 inch cake for 9 people (7 adults and 2 kids) and everyone got a thin to average slice. The cake is definitely prettier than the other fresh mango cakes on the market, has a lot more mangos that are perfectly ripe and sweet, there is less wipped cream, and the sponge cake is softer. The family agreed that Gary's has the best fresh mango cake but at $69 for a 6 inch cake, versus $43 for a 6 inch mango cake from Saint Germaine, a cake from Gary's is definitely a treat and for special occasions. Is Gary's worth the premium price? I think so but not everyone in my family agreed. One thing to note: Gary's do offer cake in a jar that's $8.50 each. When we went, they had a BOGO deal with the mango cake jars. My nephew asked my sister to buy the BOGO deal knowing that the 6 inch cake was not going to be enough, as the kids like having a second slice of cake.
