Love this place for their amazing pies, cakes, muffins, pastries, etc. Everything they make is incredible. Favorites are the cheese scones and their triple mousse cake!! I'd give them 5 stars but their restaurant service side lacks considerably. The steam milk for my son was dangerously hot. Ordered a latte which tasted like water and milk with some coffee. She agreed to give me a tea instead. She didn't bring any milk, which was served to other guests. I asked if I use the milk on the to-go counter and she said yes. I got billed for the latte and not the tea. This is my normal experience but the goodies just keeps me coming back. read more

I always have a sweet tooth when things don't go the way they should be during the day. Well few nights ago, I had this sweet tooth. And was having dinner close by. So, I decided to give this place a try considering I've heard so many good things about the cakes from this location. Very unfortunate that we didn't get to stay there to enjoy the cake. I ordered a triple chocolate mousse cake to go. I was craving creme burlee but it cost me 5.00 deposit for the holder. That's too much to me considering creme burlee cost like 6.25. Overall a great cake place but i would say it's a bit pricey to me and of course it's really far for me to go to. I would give this place a 3.5 star although yelp doesn't have that option. There's also no parking. Only street parking which isn't a big problem at night but I'm not sure if that's the same in the morning. I would come back to try their other cakes but not during busy hours. read more

Amazing staff, friendly and welcoming. I am indecisive, and the staff helped me pick some great cakes. They remember my face and it makes me feel like I am in my neighbourhood coffee joint. I love this place, its so cozy. The cakes are amazing. The toffee sponge cake is great warmed up ( with ice cream ). The BEST cheesecake in town ( new york ) and I love cheesecake ....just the right amount of sweetness and richness. Not too cheesy and not too mouse like, nor is it too dense. It is perfect. Carrot cake !!! amazing. The cookies, bars, pastries are also great. Yet I prefer the cakes. If you do love cake you must try sweet obsession. Prices are standard, portions on the smaller side. Love how it nestled in quiet residential neighborhood . Its freshly baked pastry and desserts can't be compared with overrated Thierry. Thierry is over price for its bite size portion and it's overly crowded that you can't enjoy the food! SObession has a variety of teas to choose from and coffee can be refilled. I ordered two cakes for an office birthday party and they were a huge hit! I got the New York Cheesecake with raspberry sauce and the Triple Chocolate Mousse. Ohhhh man were they ever good!! The whole office couldn't stop raving. Luckily there were left overs for the next day, and they were gobbled up within the first hour of work. I would definitely order these cakes for a special occasion again. The café itself is very cute and cozy. I would like to come back for lunch, just to enjoy the ambiance. Every year we go here to get my husband's birthday cake - the toffee cake with toffee sauce. It's absolutely amazing! The only problem is that we just don't have enough events to warrant buying cakes here more often and trying everything else they have to offer. Amazing cakes. I've had the tiramisu more than once for birthdays and I've bought the triple berry mousse for my dad's birthday. For the tiramisu, they really don't skimp on the quality ingredients! The mascarpone cheese is delicious, it's so creamy and rich. It's definitely a must try! The triple berry mousse is a complete opposite of the tiramisu. The tiramisu is rich, creamy and strong. The mousse is very light, goes down well, and is much healthier (or so I tell myself). There are three layers which consist of strawberry, blueberry, and raspberry (?). However, there isn't much cake here as the only layer at the very bottom was very thin. My parents enjoyed this and I agree. The complimentary candle is a nice touch. Only problem is that their cakes are quite expensive! I guess it's understandable because of their ingredients though. I'll definitely be back to try some more of their desserts! Been coming here for literally decades and have always loved it until the last year or so. Unlike its price, the cake portions seem to be shrinking, and the quality of the desserts have been hit and miss, much like last night's service. I give it 4 stars cuz It offers 3-5 GF DF options which is pretty good considering most bakery will have 1-2 options limited to banana bread & cookie. This bakery actually has at least one GFDF cake, chocolate obsession, which you can pay extra to get a raspberry sauce. I only had the chocolate obsession cake without sauce. This cake on its own is a bit on the dry side in term of texture. It tastes average lacking any interesting complexity in favour which i do not expect from a regular bakery. Due to its dryness, I can imagine it will go well with the raspberry, strawberry, mixed berries, chocolate, liquor or a combination sauce. And, that would add some interesting complexity to it. I like it well enough that I will get this cake again if I'm in the area. Though I'd not go across town just to get this cake. read more

I've been coming to Sweet Obsession for as long as I can remember. I was a fairly youngish kid when they opened back in the day. They have great desserts and an abundance of selections. So that's a plus. Now, it's been a while since I've been back - dessert is still just as good. Service was mediocre until after I ordered. I ordered a pot of tea and a slice of cake then proceeded to find a table to sit at and wait for the order to arrive. When it did I was greeted (I wouldn't quite say greeted...) by a slender East Indian dude with a freaking attitude. Literally SLAMMED my plate and tea for no apparent reason. I'm extremely disappointed with this type of service in a "nicer" neighbourhood cafe. Though my slice of cake was delicious, that's not going to be enough for me to come back to pay my hard earn dollar to an establishment that would hire a server without any grace or manners. He needs an attitude adjusted immediately. I'll definitely think twice about coming back here since there are MANY quality options with better service and product. read more

I ordered a pastry and a pot of tea this afternoon, and the pot of tea never showed. After waiting for about 20 mins, I went to the counter and found out that they forgot about my order. I told them it's ok, and I would just wait there to pick up the tea instead. The barista (? or store manager?) in the back looked at me and told the lady at the counter: "tell her to SIT DOWN". Dessert for lunch....yes please. This coming from the girl who traditionally has her dessert first as an appetizer before dinner. I created my first UYE event here after surveying this place earlier in the year on another UYE. The display of desserts is pastry heaven/porn. Like paying 25 cents for those dirty peep shows....only with pastries that make you feel guilty for looking at them (for the right reasons). It was an XXX experience or in culinary terms....an FFF experience (foodie, foodie, foodie). I ordered the lime/raspberry flan which tasted heavenly. I tasted more lime notes than I did raspberry, however, it was still a slice of heaven. I then ordered the triple berry mouse which was light and flavorful. Our host was very sweet, nice and sociable. The prices were decent at around $6 - $7 per slices which is the standard in the city. My dessert partner Danielle and I shared some mint spiced tea which was decent, however, nothing to write home about. I just would've preferred straight up mint tea which is a good pallet cleanser when it comes to desserts. read more

Giving this establishment a mediocre rating is being considerably generous. I just got back from the cafe today after meeting up with some friends for dessert there. The service was the worst I've ever experienced in a cafe setting. We had a party of four, so instead of telling us to wait five minutes for the next table sitting four to be available; our waitress told us in the most snobby and condescending, tone quote on quote "well that's too bad, you'll just have to sit separately" and briskly walked away. I've been coming here since we moved to Vancouver for the last five years and for the most part have enjoyed their baking, although the service has never been great. Today my son and I popped in quickly to buy a treat. We bought a $3.00 cookie and broke into it as soon as we left the shop. The cookie crumbled immediately and when I tasted it, it tasted stale (probably a week or so old). I went back into the store to let them know and see if we could exchange it for a fresher cookie. The individual working the counter looked at me like I was crazy, grabbed another cookie from the tray, took a bite and said "I need to speak to the pastry chef". She came back, asked me to take a piece of the cookie and asked what I thought. Seriously? I didn't want to cause a scene because I had my son with me, and I have better things to do than hold up my life for a damn cookie. Whatever happened to "I'm sorry, you have a stale cookie, let's get you a fresh one!". I left with a somewhat fresher cookie, but a really bad experience. If I'm going to buy a cookie for $3.00, I want a fresh one and a smile and decent customer service from your staff would be great too. read more

Amazing desserts. Terrible service. We got to the place at 10:45 and the server came to the door as we walked in with hands in our (6people) face saying you have 10min. They kept rushing us to order. This is not the first time we have received bad service. But the desserts are so good we come back. I live close by and I think this place has a lot of character and a lot of potential. The baked goods are amazing. The coffee is ok. The problem is in the "style" of service. They have this half self serve half waiter system that simply does not work. I went in today and ordered my pastries but was told to sit and wait for waiter to take my coffee order. We sat outside and immediately heard the waiter apologizing to the table behind us about their order taking a while yesterday. We ordered in bo time but our coffee order was mixed up. When we were done, I waited and waited but no one came around for us to request our bill. We went inside up to the till and asked to pay the bill for our table. I recited our orders and yet a hybrid bill containing our items and items of the lady replacing us at our table (who we did not know) was presented. I was so fed up at this point I simply paid the whole thing and walked out. So my question is this: why not just have people come in and place their order and pay for it then and simply have it served to them? The system is clearly not working and it's frustrating when two drinks are ordered but the wrong drinks are brought out...not really a relaxing experience..I obviously understand mistakes are made, but it's clearly the redundant half self serve half service system that is not working and it's a shame because the place has potential.. read more

A hidden gem! I had their Chilled Caramelized banana crepe and I'm usually not a crepe person but saw this on my instagram and just had to try it. It's not a typical crepe where you'd have your fillings inside and the crepe folded into a flat triangular shape on your plate. This was a 3 dimensional crepe filled with cream and bananas. It was topped off with some chocolate cream, a chocolate twirl and half a sphere of chocolate meringue with a crisp slice of banana. It doesn't just tastes great but it looks pretty. This place is small and it was packed. Luckily we didn't have to stand in line and wait for a seat. They alway sell whole cakes to go and other eats such as cookies, granola, and creme brulee. They also serve a variety of coffee, teas, smoothies and juices to pair with your dessert. My friend had the raspberry lime flan. Oh My God! That was the best flan I've ever eaten in my entire life. It was smooth and the balance of sweet and sour was so on the point that I could not describe. Would definitely go back for more of their desserts or to get a cake to go because it's so good I want to share with everyone else. read more

The menu here features a scrumptious array of cakes ranging from cheese cake to a lime raspberry flan and lots of chocolate deliciousness in between. I had the triple chocolate mousse cake, and it was fresh and rich, but also light and airy. In other words, it was the perfect chocolate treat. If you come to this place, you will find a slightly off-putting sign on your table pleading with you not to take more than 30 minutes to eat and run if there are other people waiting for a table. Not exactly a friendly way to do business, but if you are in need of a dessert fix, it's worth it to come here and either eat quickly or take your dessert home with you. Delicious! read more

We got the Neapolitan cake for my grandfathers birthday. I love raspberries but, it tasted like it was soaked in raspberry juice and was too moist. The texture was off due to the raspberry skins. The icing was too light and sugary. I was expecting a quality cake given their prices. Out of 6 people not one of us enjoyed or finished our piece. The one plus is the staff was super nice, unfortunately the cake we got wasn't what was described. read more

Service is slow (very slow). We waited 20 minutes for 2 sandwiches and the place was almost empty. The sandwiches were inadequate (not enough ingredients in them) and not presented in a nice way.
