If I could give this place 4.5 stars, I would. Sweet Obsession is one of my dessert spots here in Vancouver. Granted, the dessert scene isn't nearly as vibrant as other cities such as SF or LA, this will do for now. This place gets busy so I wouldn't recommend coming here with a large group. Every dessert I've ordered so far has been pretty amazing. Price-wise, it is very reasonable, especially when compared to True Confections. There's a minimum charge per person but depending on the night and how busy it is, they don't really enforce it. read more

their desserts were good. their service was friendly. but their seating was pretty tight. they have a few small tables, but even squeezing in between the tables to get to the bench seat by the window is awkward. it's a seat-yourself type of place and then the waitress/cashier will bring you your menus. it's a full-service dessert place, even though we - and other couples after us - came in and got confused. my husband got the triple chocolate mousse. it was so so rich. it was too sweet for my liking, but i'm not much into sweets unless i have a craving. i got the NY cheesecake with strawberry compote. it was not bad, but it was not the best i had. we tried to order a london fog to share, but they didn't have that. our waitress suggested we try the vanilla rooibos latte instead - loved it!! the final verdict? i wouldn't try the NY cheesecake again. but they have so many different desserts, i wouldn't mind coming back to try some others that had caught my eye. read more

Oh Sweet Obsession. You were the perfect end to a perfectly lovely day. A delicious slice of cake after hitting up many (many) booths at Hopscotch. So, even not drunk (or sober, as many others would say), the cakes here are delicious. My favourites are any chocolate or coffee flavoured concoctions, my sister loves the Neapolitan and my brother-in-law loves their hedgehog cake. They're perfect for taking out, especially since in the winter, the seating space is severely limited and not particularly comfy. Their coffees looked good and they have a lot of little bits and pieces, like jams and chocolates, to purchase for your at-home pleasure. read more

A nice little pastry shop/cafe in the Arbutus area beside Choices supermarket and also owned by Trafalgar Bistro a few doors down. You can eat in or have it to go. They have a good selection of cookies, pastries and desserts. I like how their display case showcase their yummy and decandent desserts. I always get the jam filled cookies, fruit on a puff pastry and their delightful light and not too sweet triple berry mousse cake. I also like their lemon tarts because it's tangy and not too sweet. My 18th year being a customer here, make that 22 years for my husband and his best friends. Yes, they are guys, and they are very fond of all the dessert made here. When traci left with the development of the gluten allergy. The shop had some hiccup. But now I think they had expand the selections and made it even better. My husband and his college buddies no longer live in Canada but for their occasional returns they will be sure to visit this place. My 5 star review is based on my experience as a customer here. My husband had his birthday cake here every year when he lived in the suburb of Vancouver. He would make the 1.2 hr drive just to pick up his beloved st Honore cake here. We then had our wedding cake here. Of course, our guests traveling from 4 continents praise this being the best wedding cake ever. We come visit as often as I could, and yes, there are NO complains from my end. All the staff are warm and friendly. Thanks Steve, thanks for picking friendly ppl like that to serve. A really nice dessert hole! It's super-busy at night, and we had to stand about 20 minutes before getting a table for 3, but whatever. There's enough space to wander around and they have some neat things to peruse for buying inside, including loose teas, biscotti, and other kinds of in-house sweet items. The store has a kind of relaxing cafe / cafeteria look - clean and white, with wooden seating that was nice and comfortable, with some mood lighting in case it was for romance. It's perfect for groups, as we found out too. Each person in our group had a cup of tea and a slice of dessert (they have about 20 types of cake available! And about 20 kinds of teas! I could come here every day for a year and have a different tea and cake combo... yikes... I really need to NOT think that, or I'm going to need to get elastic pants soon! I somehow don't think slacks look great that way but maybe I can get Lululemon on the job...) My tea, the Sweet Obsessions blend, was a varied mix of black teas that was gorgeous - a muted, but very nuanced beverage that would serve as a perfect backdrop for my dessert, which was a chocolate St. Honore cake. The chocolate was great and so was the cake base, but the cream puffs that made up the cake were a little hard for my liking. Indeed, it didn't have the melt-in-the-mouth texture of, say, Baguette & Co., but the harder nature actually made them go nicely with the tea. I had a bite of my friend's NY cheesecake as well, and that was smooth and rich, but the raspberry sauce that came with it cut into the thick flavor, a sweet berry tang that melded wonderfully with the soft, sweet yet slightly salty cheesecake. Absolutely a great place to go. A piece of cake and tea will come to about $10 before tax and tip. I definitely recommend this for desserts over True Confections. read more

This place was great. We came here at around 10:20 after having diner at a nearby sushi place and it's great that it was still open. They had so many choices that it was hard to choose what to get. They also served coffee and tea which is one the more expensive side but that's not why you come here. Along with our deserts they gave us complimentary biscotti. The Carmel chocolate tart was amazing and they also had the best scones. I have no doubt everything they serve is just as good and I will be coming back. read more

Recently I asked why they started making the croissants EMPTY and the girl working insisted that this was "normal" and that in France (I presume that's where she's from) they always have empty almond croissant. Not sure where in France she is from but I've lived in Paris and I've never had an empty almond croissant. But furthermore, her attitude was horrible and intense. Their prices have gone up here over the years but quality declined. Staff doesn't speak English half the time and seems confused when you want to order. Total shame. read more

Came to pick up a preordered cake, and decided to have a quick lunch. I agree with other comments that the restaurant is poorly executed for a first time visitor. If you are dining in, take a seat at a table and order with your server, if you are ordering take away order and pay at the counter. We ordered and paid for our lunch and a server delivered our order to our table. The food was good but expensive for the portion size as compared to other restaurants in Vancouver. We enjoyed the quiche that came with a half handful of wilted lettuce and a few grape tomatoes. The soup of the day was a small bowl served with two slices of bread. The drip coffee comes with free refills and the London Fog tea was a mug full. Afterwards, we ordered a black and white mousse and it was delicious and a generous size for the money. Waste of time and money. We went here for a quick late lunch and were disappointed. I had the egg sandwich was okay but my husband had a ham and cheese and Caesar salad. Sandwiches come with a very small side salad so he asked to have a Caesar salad instead. When it arrived on the plate with his sandwich it was a few lettuce leaves one strip f red pepper and some side dressing no doubt from a bottle. When I asked if this was the size you'd have gotten if you just ordered the salad and she said yes I saw her take it out of the tub. I told her that could not be possible as it was the same size as my side salad. We had also ordered iced lattes and they came after the food after we asked where they were and they tasted like cold coffee with milk. When the server asked how the food was and I told her the salad was a joke she said really I eat it all the time and it fills me up! Yum yum, sweet obsessions!!! This place is on 16th Avenue in Vancouver. As soon as I walked in: Little Cake/Sweets Paradise!!!. There were two displays full of different cakes, colors, flavors, textures, icing, no icing, filling, no filling...visually delicious!. I got the menus and couldn't decide what to go for and I was about to ask if they had a "cake sampler" (I really wish they did). I ordered the Dulce de Leche cake. Cinnamon flavor cake with dulce de leche (caramelized milk) and pecans filling and icing, thick, yummy, all over the place!!!. Sweeeeetttt, I really liked this cake, it definitely hit the spot and my sweet tooth was very excited!. I also tried their Soy Capuccino, it was nice and foamy just like a real cap is supposed to be!. Their service was great! The guy helping me was very nice and gave me some recommendations. The prices are reasonable, cakes by the slice are $5.75 but you get a "slice". They have cheesecakes, cookies, biscottis, compotes, scones, everything you could imagine AND they have free wi-fi. Descent desert although a bit overpriced in comparaison to quality and choice availability of other desert places (Thomas Hass, Thierry). TERRIBLE service. We got there and front staff at the cashier was really rude (guy with an accent?). No place to sit and not helpful to accommodate customers or provide the nice experience we would expect when coming for a treat. If that guy is the owner, he should reconsider his attitude. If he is an employee, he should probably move on to something more appropriate not requiring any sort of customer service. Don't waste your time, hit the other desert spots. I love almost everything in this place! I used to live nearby and discovered it then, but have since moved out to White Rock and I still make it a point to come here every time I come into town! I absolutely LOVE their pear/almond tarts! Ohhhhhhhhh mannnnn!! So good! Not overly sweet and the half of a pear nestled into vanilla cream and then encased in a buttery pastry and sprinkled with toasted almonds is just to die for!! OMG! The cheesecake with raspberry coulis is to die for! The raspbery coulis is so fresh and tart. As well, their passionfruit flan was divine! Not as good as I remember... Drove all the way from downtown to Sweet Obsession b/c I had a craving for St Honore cake. First time my husband has been there so he ordered a slice of Coconut Chiffon cake. I had to wait over 5 minutes for someone to even acknowledge me... but it wasn't even busy... there was no one else waiting in line and at least 3 people behind the counter. I finally get someone's attention and was told to wait. It was 2 more minutes before I finally got to order. We took our dessert to go. Just got home and cracked open the box... omg what a disappointment! The slice of coconut chiffon cake was TINY. Like you almost need a magnifying glass to see it! Ok, it wasn't that bad... but it was pretty dang small (approximately 1/8th of the 6" cake) for a whopping $5.50. Big price tag... teeny tiny cake. Adding insult to injury... husband rates it a 7 out of 10. I think we will stick to driving to Whole Foods for cake from now on. read more

I always get my cakes here, for birthdays, anniversaries, New Year's, Christmas, Valentine's...any occasion is enough occasion for an opportunity to have cake from here! I love the flans, love the tartness and the creamy fruit filling. They ARE quite tart though, so don't get it if you can't handle it. I also like the cheesecakes (lemon or mango). I like the candied fruit peels they put on top. The berry mousse is good too. I think I tend to like the fresh-tasting cakes better, not so much a fan of the rich chocolate cakes. Better to get my chocolate fix from brownies, I say! Mum likes their tiramisu, but I myself think my homemade version is better. *shrugs* Roasted coconut is quite good too, except the frosting is a bit bland...the least sweet of the cakes I've tried here. I had the hazelnut zuccotto for my birthday this year, wasn't a complete fan of this one. A bit too sweet...plus the cake part wasn't that great. I like the fudgey part inside though, and the ganache frosting. Next time I want to try the hedgehog and then the PB chocolate thing...mmm. Service is always great here, even when it's busy.
