Overall, it was just average. We also ordered the Strawberry Pistachio Tart. The strawberries were fresh with a nice balance of sweetness, and there was a good amount of pistachio chunks. However, it lacked the layers of flavor that make a tart memorable. On the bright side, the coffee was excellent and easily my favorite part of the visit. I'd happily come back for a coffee, but I'd probably try different pastries next time.

Gary's only allows to order the fresh mango cakes up to one week ahead to ensure they have enough ripe mangos, which I admire their dedication. We ordered the 6 inch cake for 9 people (7 adults and 2 kids) and everyone got a thin to average slice. The cake is definitely prettier than the other fresh mango cakes on the market, has a lot more mangos that are perfectly ripe and sweet, there is less wipped cream, and the sponge cake is softer. The family agreed that Gary's has the best fresh mango cake but at $69 for a 6 inch cake, versus $43 for a 6 inch mango cake from Saint Germaine, a cake from Gary's is definitely a treat and for special occasions. Is Gary's worth the premium price? I think so but not everyone in my family agreed. One thing to note: Gary's do offer cake in a jar that's $8.50 each. When we went, they had a BOGO deal with the mango cake jars. My nephew asked my sister to buy the BOGO deal knowing that the 6 inch cake was not going to be enough, as the kids like having a second slice of cake.

I'm so glad I got to have an afternoon cup of Earl Grey with a pastry. I got the mango passionfruit donut and it was excellent. My brother got the mac & cheese and said it was sweet. That's not something he is used to. I don't need me because there was bacon in it I didn't get to try it. He also ordered a sandwich to go. He ate the sausage rolls that I thought was a pastry. He said it was good. The seat inside is pretty squishy and the bakery itself is pretty busy. There are a few seats outside. I don't feel like this is a place you sit and do your school work. The tables are small which might be intentional to eat your pastry and leave. We came around 3:15 PM and it was pretty busy. I will definitely be returning to one of these places when I'm back in Vancouver, not neccesarily this location. All of the bakeries seem to serve the same items which makes it consistent.
