This place really is of its own caliber in Bakersfield, CA. This is doubly true when considering how few "mom and pop" bakeries are present here. Professional, courteous, and deeply committed to making great cakes, this is a sort of "first resort" for me during birthday outings and last-minute events. Slice cake $6 good size for it. Once you get in line your ask right away what you need , which is great , but if you want to wait an take your time an decided which one you want to choose, they seem to loose patient . Wasn't sure what to get someone else , had to make a call to find out! An an older lady ( not sure owner or manager ) ask again what I wanted while I was making the call , told her I'm double checking on the flavors of the cupcakes I need , she look annoyed that I was taking her time . Was totally caught off guard when I received a call saying that I had a delivery from Sweet Surrender! I had heard so much about this place and I finally get to see what the rave was about this place, a beautiful platter arrived filled with goodies from such a beautiful person in mine and my family's life. Opened it up oh so carefully not to disturb one thing, my eyes focused in on the pecan bar mouth watering cause it looked soo good, chomp the first bite, tasted a little funny, I took another bite not good, tasted stale, I thought this can't be this is sweet surrender, my kids throughout the week would come get something and not a one was impressed. I really think everything in this platter was a bunch of leftovers from the weekend. I feel soo bad that she spent so much money on not quality product. If I could give this cake no stars I would! At first glance it looked like a child had iced the cake but still I was hopeful! Once I sliced it all hope left the building. The holes throughout the cake reminded me of a box cake made again by a child or super novice baker. The Lemon Delight cake with lemon curd was wet and gummy in texture and the curd had a pudding like texture. The flavor was super weak overly sweet with only a hint of lemon flavor!! Every time I come here, everyone is very friendly and helpful. The cupcakes, bars, cakes, and cookies are all delish. My work used to bring these in a lot so I have tried most flavors and everything is baked nicely. They also have a little shopping section with cute stuff that I have to constantly tell myself I dont need because it is all so adorable. I went on today to get a couple cupcakes for my husband. His birthday is tomorrow but he's leaving out of town so I just wanted to get him a little something. Unfortunately, at 4:45, when I could make it in, they were out of everything chocolate except the rich chocolate so that's what he got. This is one of our favorite cake shops. We come in here once a month (sometimes more than that lol) and treat ourselves to their sliced cakes and goodies. I tend to always get the carrot cake or the confetti cake. The hubby loves the Matterhorn cake (rich chocolate cake with a white icing and chocolate shavings) I've never had a bad treat here. They offer cookies, cupcakes, cakes for any event, cheesecake, pumpkin rolls (during the season), and so much more. They also offer different coffee's, I haven't tried them so I can't speak about them but they have quite a selection and I'm sure pair well with their treats. Aside from the delicious bakery, they have a boutique. Always stocked with some neat items, anything from household items, to gifts, and home decor. This place is worth stopping by. From time to time, I must surrender to my Sweet Tooth!! Bakersfield has several places that I prefer for satisfying that special craving. On those occasions when I am in southwest Bakersfield, Sweet Surrender is the bakery I choose to patronize the most. Fortunately, they are not open too late or else I would be stopping by more often to satisfy my sweets craving. Surprisingly, they are more than just a bakery. They also are a sort of boutique shop that sells all kinds of nice looking merchandise. For myself, though, I bypass that area to head straight to the bakery section. They sell a large assortment of sweets. Cakes, cookies, and cupcakes are what I have bought and eaten over the years. Everything has tasted pretty darn good. Can honestly state that I have not had a bad tasting dessert at Sweet Surrender. Sometimes they sell day old cookies, and even they are still delicious. Sweet Surrender has two items which have been featured nationally. Their Matterhorn cake was featured on the Food Network. It was the favorite cake of Giada (a popular Celebrity chef)!! I must admit that both the Matterhorn cake and the Matterhorn cupcake are yummy. I like the Lemon White Chocolate cake even better. This delicacy was featured in O magazine!! Personally, my all time favorite dessert at Sweet Surrender is their Italian Cream Cake!! WOW, it is a slice of heaven! Absolutely delicious!! Have no idea why I love it so much cause I don't even like coconut. All I know is that it tastes like happiness to me. Anyways, go ahead and treat yourself to some sweets at Sweet Surrender! You know you deserve it! They are sure to have something you like. Part of the enjoyment is purchasing something different each time. Never know what your favorite will be till you try it.
