Okay so I just recently started going to sweet surrender for there frosted sugar cookies. They give a bit nostalgia to a sugar cookie. However having gone a hand full times now I keep asking myself if this is a $5 cookie. It's a sugar cookie with sprinkles and sugar glaze, or sometimes just glaze. The regular cookies are $2.50 so the price for a frosted cookie could be capped at about $3.75. Also if you order a dozen I was informed you pay regular price per cookie. $60 dollars for 12 sugar cookies is wild! Atleast discount the cookies for buying a dozen or more at a time. Supporting local businesses are amazing, but price gauging is not. read more

Really enjoy this bakery! It not only has yummy treats, but also cute knickknacks you can buy! What I really love is that they have delicious gluten free treats! I did a gluten free diet, and this was my go to during that time. They have a gluten free almond horn that I must say can be addicting. I really have enjoyed everything I have had from here. The Matterhorn and red velvet cake are my two favorites, but I don't think the red velvet is available in a gluten free option. My husband and I snagged a pink champagne cake from their pre-made case to enjoy as our personal wedding cake. The staff was friendly, and the bakery also includes a cute little shop. Absolutely amazing flavor! It was sweet, and almost fruity from the champagne taste. The cake was soft and moist even after multiple days in the fridge. My only complaint was how heavily the white chocolate decor on top tasted of food coloring; I'm not sure if that was avoidable though. The frosting itself wasn't overwhelming. My review is strictly about the Matterhorn cake. Once upon a time it was the most deliciously moist and flavorful cake in town. The last four times I have purchased this cake I have been disappointed. It has been dry and literally crumbly. The frosting too is no longer flavorful but just sweet. Last minute snafu with ordering a custom cake for my aunts 89th birthday elsewhere. When I called Sweet Surrender, they were very accomodating. Though they don't really do "custom orders" we were able to pick up a two tier "The Matterhorn" the next afternoon, as well as some beautiful candles (they sell various cake decor items), then add some faux flowers from Amazon. Bought a "slice" of tiramisu recently. Price was $15.00, which is obscene, it was mostly cream, very little cake. The taste was okay but not great. Did not leave me wanting more. Another bakery in Bakersfield charges $5.00 for a slice. It's much tastier and has more cake than cream. I have noticed that Sweet Surrender's prices have increased on all their baked goods. I live in Colorado and have been gluten-free for 5+ years. Best gluten-free cookies I've EVER eaten. If it would have passed as a regular cookie before I went GF, I would've said it was a top notch cookie period. My lord! They need to franchise and take this to Colorado. They should try their hands with mastering a gluten-free cinnamon roll, too ... I have yet to find a GF cinnamon roll that could pass for a Cinnabon or other elite cinnamon roll. This is a cute bakery that has a nice gift shop. If you're in the area, it's fine to visit. However, I wouldn't go out of your way to go here just because you want to try the Matterhorn chocolate cake or the white chocolate lemon cake (Giada and Oprah love these). These are the best cupcakes I've ever had! They are way better than dots or sprinkles in LA. They are super moist and the flavors are excellent. My favorite is the strawberry shortcake and it tastes just like the old school ice cream bar. My hubby bought me some for my birthday in December of last year and that was the first time I had them. Since then I've got my coworkers hooked and they demand I bring them for every potluck. Red velvet, and pink champagne are also favorites. One word Matterhorn. If you've never bitten into Sweet Surender's Matterhorn cupcake well my friend, you're just not living. Let me explain, it is chocolate without being chocolatey, it's rich without being overly rich, it's moist with and airy frosting that has me plagued because I just don't know what it is but I do know that I love it. It is my one must have every year on my birthday and my sneaky treat when I'm buying cupcakes for other Birthdays lol. When I switch to a mostly gluten free diet, I was happy to find out they offered my favorite in gluten free. However, I was shocked to find out how freaking good this version of the Matterhorn also is! The texture is nearly identical and the flavor is spot on so all the gluten free girlies please enjoy also. You're gonna think I'm crazy, but I've eaten so many different sweets from Sweet Surrender now, but I've never been to the physical location. When my older son was younger and attended OJ Actis down the street from this place, I passed this building everyday and still never visited this place. It's funny because I've only tried it from reps bringing it to the office or from friends bringing me goodies. From everything that I have tried here and believe me I've tried all sorts of different items and flavors here, I couldn't tell you what my favorite item was because a lot of the flavors can't be compared to the other item. If you have a sweet tooth like me then you'd understand what I mean. So many different items to choose from and I hear that tons of celebrities visit this place because of the deliciousness that comes out of their oven. I even heard that Oprah and Giada loved the cakes made inside this place, so you know they make goodness in their kitchen. Sweet Surrender has delicious sweet items, but be forewarned, the prices are so extreme as to be nearly obscene. I think they should consider having financing available. Better bring several hundred dollar bills, especially if you plan on purchasing items for your office. They have a lot of creative tasty options. I will not be returning as they have transitioned from a delicacy store, to a COVID regulation enforcement entity. For example, they have a large 2'x3' standing sign 10' from the door with fluorescent writing warning you that face masks are required.
