We have been so excited to try sweet tomatoes since they returned to Tucson after closing all locations during the COVID pandemic. We were so pleasantly surprised at the selection and quality of food. We had to wait outside for about 25 minutes but the line went pretty quickly. Our waitress was very attentive and kind. We didn't realize that there were servers and my husband didn't recall an option to leave a tip. We asked her about tipping and she said she accepted Venmo, Zelle, etc. since we mentioned we didn't have cash. It also says on the door that they are cashless so if you plan on eating there, bring a card to pay. My daughter has become pretty picky of an eater lately and she ate all of her Mac & cheese, some ice cream, veggies, and salad. Her meal was free too since she is under 4 (I can't recall if it is children under 4 or 6 that are free). We are looking forward to going back! read more

Sweet Tomatoes I've missed you, and I'm so glad to see you back! From what I could tell virtually nothing has changed - the salads, soups, and bakery items are pretty much what they were before. They deserve to do well - there is really no other restaurant in this niche, and they do it well. We arrived about 10 minutes before they opened, and the line stretched all along the front of the building. We were filling our plates by around 11:20. It seemed like the line died down around 11:30, then spiked again at 12:00 when everyone took their lunch break. The only thing I missed was the tangy red French dressing - I like to pair it with their bleu cheese. Maybe it'll get added back into the mix. read more

I grew up going to Sweet Tomatoes weekly with my family. I'd eat there minimum once a week for over 20 years prior to their closure, so I'm a certified Sweet Tomatoes Connoisseur. When they closed due to the pandemic, I was devastated. I signed every "bring back sweet tomatoes" pole I could find hoping one day my beloved all you can eat buffet would reopen. When the announcement came of the purchase and projected reopening, I was thrilled and followed every article and news I could. All of this led to today. Finally making the trek down to Tucson to dine at our favorite restaurant. Below is a brutally honest review from a Sweet Tomatoes fanatic. Immediately we realized that some of the ingredients weren't as fresh. The mushrooms looked wet & old, maybe even canned. The cheese was different than what I'd always tasted historically by texture and taste. The pickles weren't crisp and fresh, a bit more on the soft side. They had no pimento olives only black olives. The croutons weren't the same at all, which is a HUGE bummer because they used to be one of the stars of the show. Historically they were very unique in flavor and texture. I always assumed they were made in house. They were seasoned very specifically, were light with a fluffy crunch. The new ones tasted cheap. The bacon bits were hard fake pieces resembling fish food! Most notably on the salad bar and by far the most disappointing, was that the ranch was not the same at all. Their ranch used to be my favorite ranch hands down anywhere. My family used to tease that I'd get a bowl of ranch with a salad on the side I would eat so much of it. The new stuff was runny, the flavor was completely off and there were strange red flecks in the ranch. It wasn't sweet tomatoes ranch as it had always been before. The Cesar salad seemed mostly the same, something was a tad off. Maybe it was the croutons not being the same texture or flavor that threw it off for me. I opted for regular lemonade. I always had the lemonade every visit when I went. I took one sip and nearly spit it out. I was horrible. It had a chemical taste that was very strong. If you could imagine what poison might taste like, that's what this would be. Never have I ever drank something that tasted so rancid. I immediately dumped and rinsed my cup and tried the strawberry lemonade. It wasn't like it used to be but it was at least consumable. They definitely were not fresh like they used to be and they clearly were not following the recipes that they purchased the rights to. My all time favorite soup used to be the OG white meat chicken noodle topped with green onions, white onions & cheese with a dash of pepper. Immediately I noticed the meat was not the fresh pulled from the breast white meat chicken but rather some pretty awful dark meat. They also had no white onions as a topper like they used to which was a bummer. I pressed on and gave it a honest try. The noodles were close but not quite as thick and hearty as before. The broth was pretty close, but not spot on. The chicken was an absolute no go. I don't understand how if the proprietary information was purchased the new owners would decide to deviate from the original recipe for the OG big chunk chicken noodle soup. That was a horrible move! Skimping out on a sweet tomatoes re-launch is just not the way to go!! I picked all the nasty meat out before finishing the noodles and broth. I tried the chili over a baked potato for old times sake and the chili was not the same either. The flavor profile was off and the consistency wasn't to par. I did buy a bag of cookies and those were pretty similar to what I remembered. We left disappointed and really hoping for a change. It appears that the new owner/management is substituting quality food for subpar food which is a total bummer. Maybe they will take all the feedback and make it right before it negatively impacts them and they go back under. Sweet tomatoes worked because of the quality, the specific flavor profiles, consistency and a mostly healthy all you can eat experience. Here's my advice to the new sweet tomatoes owners. Don't be cheap. Bring back the quality and follow the proprietary recipes you acquired to a T, even if that means a small increase in pricing in order to afford to do so. Bring back the right croutons, ranch, white meat chicken soup, thicker pasta noodles, correct lemonade, soft serve ect. Don't skimp on ingredients or quality and stop trying to modify the proprietary recipes! This is going to be very beneficial to the long term success or failure of this re-launch. Please don't let such small mistakes ruin the legacy of sweet tomatoes when you have the information and tools to do it EXACTLY like it was done before. Don't float on the name alone, honor Sweet Tomatoes legacy and step it up. Would I go back, probably if I was nearby. Would I loyally travel two hours to eat, no not until they make the decision to accurately follow the propriety recipes. read more

I was so excited to see they were reopening one restaurant in the entire country and so I took my coworker there with much anticipation in my heart! Sadly they were so busy, even at 3pm on a Monday, that it felt like the food was being rushed out and the quality was not like it once was. The pre-made salad options were all very overdressed, they were constantly out of the pizza/flatbreads that were just okay tasting, and the lines at the hot food sections were always long. The pasta offerings were only mac and cheese, spaghetti, and one other unremarkable option with meat. They used to always have one with alfredo sauce, one with red sauce, and then one with meat. I think that is a better option than the mac n cheese on the line, but understand they need to have something for the kids. The parking lot was also under construction so that meant a long walk to and from the restaurant - probably a good thing after eating all-you-can-eat, though! The folks who were working were all very friendly and put on a smile despite the chaos of what looked like a very busy food hall. I hope the next time I go it will be less chaotic and they take their time to get their dishes prepared to the old standard. read more

We used to go to Sweet Tomatoes often before the Covid closing, and enjoyed the food. After they reopened, we waited for awhile before trying it again. We were VERY disappointed. First, they demanded cards instead of cash, which was insulting. Then, they had removed all the gluten free items, so I could not eat any muffins or bread. Then, I tried a vegetarian soup, and it was awful. There was MSG in it. I am highly sensitive to MSG, and got a raging headache from it. You may not put MSG directly in the food, but one of the prepackaged items definitely did. The salad line was not particularly clean either. We will never go back. And, please, spare me the canned blah blah about hoping we will give you another chance. It's insult after insult. read more

Best dinner ever!! This brought back so many memories. Almost everything tastes the same. The salad bar is so good (best olives ever). The mac and cheese, blueberry muffins, and cornbread all tasted the exact same. I don't know how they make their mac and cheese but it is so good. I tried the mushroom alfredo for the first time and that was also good. The chicken noodle soup was also the same, love the thick noodles and chunky pieces of chicken. The focaccias were delicious, I preferred the cheesy garlic focaccia over the quattro fomaggio focaccia. For dessert, the cranberry apple cobbler and chocolate chip cookie squares/chunks were outstanding. I also enjoyed the chocolate mousse with cookie crumbles sprinkled on top. I love that the brownies and cornbread pieces are in squares, it makes the outside nice and crispy. Service was great, workers stopped by to clean up our plates often. The preseasoned Ceaser, Asian, cole slaw, and broccoli salads are a huge draw... and then you can build your own salads AND they have house made Ranch and Blue cheese dressings! Yeah, I might go back. For an AYCE buffet restaurant, this is well run and clean. Good, typical offering of veggies and items for a salad. Soups were pretty good and I enjoyed them. The chili is actually pretty good. Many carb-loaded items to choose from, corn bread, brownies, mac and cheese (OK, not great, good enough to eat), pasta with alfredo sauce, garlic bread strips, etc. The strawberry lemonade is definitely what everyone raves about. Good stuff. Difficult to find protein here. Got it from some of the soups. Hard boiled eggs on the salad bar. Good enough prices. Not a noisy place. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. This is the first time in years that I have been to Sweet Tomatoes. I was worried about going there during lunch time because of the lunch crowd. It was very crowded but it didn't take long to get a seat or go through the line. Everyone was pleasant that worked there. They wiped off the salad bar often. Some things were not marked down as to what kind of good. I didn't get anything from that area on the salad bar. With so many allergies I didn't want to take a chance. The salad was good. The pot pie soup was very good. The breads by the soup were good. My pictures are limited because it was so crowded I didn't want to get people in the shots.
