Everything on this menu sounded amazing - I mean, how can you go wrong with mac and cheese, fried chicken, turkey wings, sweet potatoes, corn bread, and other delicious options. And it's not that anything was bad...but I wouldn't say I felt satisfied with the flavor experience. I am thinking the sweet tea is made fresh per order because the tea came out warm with 2 ice cubes in it - so I am thinking the tea was just brewed and cooled down with ice. I needed to ask for more ice because it wasn't great warm. We had the corned bread appetizer and it was very cake-like: it was pretty thick and a bit dry. The strawberry sauce that comes with it was a 10/10. Whatever that sauce was, it was BOMB. It was unexpected to get that with corned bread, but I am here for it. My crispy chicken said on the menu it takes 30 minutes- but it was out much less than that. Chicken was cooked fine, but I felt the breading didn't have that much flavor/spices. Mac and cheese was pretty good- I liked the noodles they picked (spiral). The sweet potato was cooked perfectly. When l inquired about sitting at another, the owner in passive aggressive manner immediately told me no. After that encounter I was completely turned off. Our server Thomas was extremely nice, he had great recommendations from the menu. I'm a forever sucker for comfort food. Whether that be in the form of brunch or traditional soul food I have no preference. This restaurant has tasty food selections yet the usual "warmth" I receive in soul food restaurants wasn't there and left a little to be desired. Environment The store sign is easily visible from all angles across the street and upon entrance it becomes instantly recognizable you're soon to have a unique experience. The walls are designed with a unique blue wall sculpture and during my visit most of the tables were full(about 75%-80% capacity) yet I still felt like I had ample space. I could easily see this restaurant being used for events as they have a very nice layout that would suit most occasions. The service I received during my visit was fare, however, there was a warmth missing from most of my engagements with the staff. One of the owners Tonza was present for most of my stay managing the front and back-end. Which to the credit of the business would have been an incredible opportunity to "check-in" with guests to make sure everyone was satisfied. However, I think this could be a attributed to a lack of staff at the hand of the steady flow of customers. Food To be honest, there were no misses in any of the dishes I ordered. The catfish was flaky yet still moist. I would use the same description to describe the cornbread which is an ever harder feat to accomplish. By the time I nibbled on the cheese grits my leg was shaking with glee! (If you don't dance when you eat you haven't eaten the right food).The only item that could potentially use improvement was the deviled eggs. Next to the robust flavor profiles of the other dishes, it somewhat paled in comparison yet was still scrumptious. THE SAUCE I trekked a great distance to visit this restaurant. Came here last Friday and did thoroughly enjoy the food. I came with my two sisters and everyone really enjoyed their food. We got the fried chicken, beef rib, lamb cheesesteak, biscuits and gravy, deviled eggs, and lemon Bundt cake. I personally think the food was extremely well priced, though I am comparing it to mt experience dining in NYC- I still think for the portions the price was really good. I took a star off for two reasons. 1) the Mac and cheese had absolutely no flavor, I was really sad about this because who doesn't love Mac and cheese? Also, the lemon Bundt was good but had a barely there lemon taste, it tasted like pound cake to me which is fine but definitely not lemon. 2) our reservation was at 915, it appears the restaurant closes sharply at 10. Which means we had 45 minutes to get our food, eat, and barely had anytime to speak. I respect folks time and understand that staff need to get home, but I didn't appreciate all the cleaning, turn down of tables, dimming of lights happening around us. Nobody told us to leave but we really didn't feel welcome. When we ordered our dessert, the waitress said "for here or to go?", and that's when I knew that they were really wrapping things up. If the restaurant is closing at 10, I would recommend no reservation later than 830 as that would give the final reservations a good hour and a half to enjoy their food, drinks, and ambiance. Wow, we loved this place. The atmosphere is amazing and food is incredibly delicious. Let me break it down. We got the peach iced tea to start and it was incredibly delicious. They make it fresh every day. We started with the Corn Bread, Fried Okra, and Biscuits and Gravy. All three were out of this world. The Corn Bread is not dry and delicious and comes with a delicious dipping sauce that I soaked my bread in. The Fried Okra is cooked to perfection and the dipping aioli sauce was very good. I loved the biscuits and gravy. We split the appetizers and then split the Short Rib with Mac and Cheese. The Short Rib literally falls off the bone and the bbq sauce was very good. The Mac and Cheese was creamy and yummy, I almost licked the bowl clean. We also got the Yams as a side and they were very good (I don't even like yams). We got the Seasonal Berry Cobbler for dessert even though we had a ton of leftovers to take home. This was good. It would have been great but the berries were a bit watered down. The star of this was the crust which I would give a 10 out of 10 to. It takes 15 minutes to cook so if you wanna try it, I would order while you are eating the main meal. Sweet T's has a lot going for themselves. The food is flavorful and reasonably priced for the quality. I would literally order everything I got again which is saying a lot. They have live music on Sunday but be sure to make a reservation. The owner was there while we were there and she is extremely gracious. Our waitress was so friendly and helpful. Love Montclair! So happy to see this Houston bred, black owned restaurant on the strip! It was pretty great. We thought the mac n cheese had more cream than cheese and was quite bland, but I still killed it. Perhaps it's healthier that way (they do cater to vegans on their menu as well which I love, so they're health conscious). The greens were great and the candied yams were heavier on the nutmeg fyi. 5 stars are not enough! I love Southern cooking and Sweet T's in Montclair was above my expectations! As soon as you walk in and the wait staff greets you - you know you're in for something great! The menu is not huge - which is good because a big menu makes decisions difficult- but a smaller menu does not mean a less than steller selection. Each selection from starters to dessert makes you wish you were starving with hunger to order it all! We came in as a party of four and all got different dishes. With that we all tried a little from each plate - the fried chicken, the catfish, the salmon- so so good! Alright alright! Finally got to try out this spot and I must admit. Well worth it. That lamb cheesesteak was so so so on point. Lamb was seasoned well and lots of meat on it, each bit had lamb with it. I must admit that this was one hell of a good sandwich. Also, I got the cheese on the side. And that took it up a notch. I have no issue tipping for good service, but why add a tip for a to go order? There's also a $3.99 credit card fee. After that time passed, we went back in to inquire and they said another 10 minutes and stated "you did have a big order". We ordered 3 desserts, nothing else. My favorite thing here was definitely the collard greens, doesn't matter what you order make sure you get a side of their collard greens they were amazing. The braised short rib was cooked to perfection, soft and tender (ask for more sauce if you like more flavor). The Mac and cheese and cornbread were also very good. The cornbread comes with a strawberry butter, for me personally it's too sweet I like my cornbread exactly how it came out nice and warm. I also tried the salmon cakes and grits, the grits are cheesy grits with lots of flavor but unfortunately the salmon cakes lacked flavor. The meat was tender, a little fatty for my liking but the taste is all there. The mac and cheese was yummy and the side that we chose was candied yams which was cooked perfectly. - Cheddar Cheese Stone Ground Grits (Made with dairy): Shaunie our server suggested these and I am so glad she did. I've tried grits before but wasn't a fan until these changed my mind. - Peach Cobbler Sweet Tea Service was great, friendly and attentive. First, the service provided by Jay far exceeded my expectations because she, led by her incredibly nice persona, was professional, and attentive to our needs (there were six in the party, including two young children). Getting good fried chicken and sides is harder than it should be, especially up North, but Sweet T's is the best I've had above the Mason-Dixon line. Healthier, too. What they call Grandma Sarah "Boobie's" Crispy Chicken is moist and flavorful on the inside, with a great crisp exterior that's not smothered in breadcrumbs. The sides I ordered are standard fare in any hot lunch spot in the South: mac 'n' cheese (considered a vegetable in most meat & three veg joints) and collard greens. But the mac 'n' cheese here was high above the usual, baked and tangy, as opposed to swimming in pale yellow sauce, and the greens so flavorful that I even drank the pot liquor. Know the phrase "so good, it makes you wanna slap yo mama"?* I got takeout because I was feeling lazy, and it may not make as nice a picture compared to how it would have looked at the restaurant, but see attached photo. I normally have a great experience at Sweet T's as I've been a long term customer since they opened up however my experience on Saturday September 14th unfortunately was less than ideal, not due to good quality but instead due to lack of customer service. We arrived at 1pm and were seated. I made a reservation for two people but because we were planning on ordering a lot of food I requested a table for four. Also because it was 90% empty due to the Montclair jazz festival, we figured it wouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately what I assume was the manager on duty did not want to accommodate us. He gave some excuse about maybe a bunch of walk-ins coming in, which was of course an absurd excuse because you always treat your existing customers (especially those with reservations) better than imaginary customers! lol. Anyway long story short, we decided not to order more food due to lack of table space, which is of course a money loss for the establishment, and when we left the establishment 60% of the tables were still unseated so we definitely could've had a larger table! We were very disappointed in this treatment and I will not be eager to return knowing that customer service is now an after thought as opposed to a top priority. read more

I enjoyed the collard greens that came with his meal. The BBQ chicken was well made. The sauce had a strong taste of tomato, which made it taste less like bbq chicken to me. It wasn't bad, just not what I prefer. It was a bit too much sauce, which was not an issue because it sits on the chicken so I scrapped it off. Cornbread and strawberry butter is also pretty delicious. It tastes more like corn muffin, a bit too sweet for me. Still, it's huge and good with coffee. I never order potato salad from anywhere because it never tastes as good as homemade.
