Sweetbriar Rose is one of the few stops on the 290 wine shuttle that serves food other than charcuterie! We were all hungry and were so excited when we walked in and they had bakery items, to-go sandwiches, etc. We ordered five different sandwiches and we all enjoyed them. I had the muai onion kettle chips and they hit the spot. It was a quieter, more quaint stop than some of the other wineries we visited and we didn't drink there, but we did enjoy our time. read more

Nice lunch spot on 290 just outside the main part of Fredericksburg. They have sandwiches and sweet treats, as well as some wine options. I had the Turkey avocado sandwich. It's a good size for lunch and is a perfect healthy meal. The sprouts and avocado make it fresh. The bread is fantastic- it's soft with a crunchy crust and nice seeds throughout. COVID-19 review. OK, so I'm not exactly staying in place. In my defense I had ordered some clothes in Kerrville and stopped by Sweetbriar Rose on the way home. I passed by, then called to inquire about their hours. In September of 2019 I had a lovely glass of moscato on a poker run during the Texas Miata Round Up. I turned around and went back. I scored a couple of bottles with a 30 percent discount! Gonna open up one tomorrow! Thank yall for providing and weathering the storm at this time; it's sad to drive along 290 and see so many places empty or barely operational. Sunday is half priced pastries!!!!! They have all kinds of wine, food and even beer! So, if you're with a grump who doesn't like wine this is the perfect place! I had the chicken salad sandwich and it was fantastic. The hubby had the ham and Swiss. We also enjoyed the brownies, which are a very rich fudgy brownie. The cookies were also very good. This place is interesting in how it presents itself. A strange mix of food, coffee, beer, wine, and random items for purchase. Unfortunately, like most places that do too many things, they lack in quality. I got the avocado and turkey sandwich and it was extremely disappointing. It turned in to a mushy mess quickly. For $14 this was not worth it. The overall atmosphere was a weird hodgepodge of catering to those people too drunk on the wine tours and those looking for a passable lunch. I loved this place! Everyone was friendly, there were some other fun customers inside, and such cute, funny items to buy. One one side, there are yummy sandwiches and snacks, while the other side is for alcohol. We even got jello shots here! Just such a pretty shop to come back to, and it was peaceful. This place was amazing! I'm a big coffee person, and the coffee here was amazing! Came here every morning that I stayed in Fredericksburg. For Sunday, we got brunch and the tacos were huge and at a great price! Loved how sweet the ladies were!!! Definitely will be coming back to this place when I come back to Fredericksburg. With so few places to eat along 290, this place is a great option. It has been added to the 290 Wine Shuttle route which is why we hopped off there on a Saturday around 2 pm. It offers just a handful of sandwich, soup and salad options, along with wine, beer, coffee and tea. Our chicken salad sandwiches were delicious. We bought a few of the wine/Jell-O shots. The country musician was enjoyable to listen to and fun to interact with. The shop inside had fun trinkets, toys and kitchen items. We stopped to buy a couple bottles of rosé as gifts, but we quickly learned this place is everything except a winery. They have breakfast (owner's daughter is a pastry chef), coffee shop, lunch, jello shots, frozen wine-a-ritas, bottled beer, beer on tap, and a gift shop. They had a small band out back on the patio. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon after visiting a winery and just loved the vibe. They've got a small menu of homemade sandwiches and pastries and whatnot, all which were so delicious. I ordered the turkey avocado (comes with tomatoes, sprouts, olive oil aioli one homemade bread. Just so yum! My friends ordered the chicken salad sandwich and the ham & Swiss, both were great. This was our first stop on the 290 Shuttle. We stopped in for breakfast as we were told they had good breakfast options. They had cinnamon rolls which we ordered with a coffee. The cinnamon roll although warmed was very dry. Two other friends had the chicken salad sandwich and both of them said the bread was very dry as well. We had jello shots at 10:30am but hey why not! If you want other options from just wine, this is a good place to visit. They have merchandise for sell and I did buy some cute spoons for my kids. The staff was really nice as well. I just wasn't impressed with the food and nothing wow'ed me to want to return. read more

Amazing spot for wine and lunch. They have some fantastic frozen wine a ritas that hit the spot on a hot afternoon. Beautiful views, adorable decor, highly recommend stopping here on a winery tour. Ann was so sweet and accommodating. They had a big party for lunch and ran out of bread, however I am glad that they did because their wraps were incredible! Super cute gifts at this place as well. Everyone I worked with at Sweetbriar Rose to coordinate our large lunch order ahead of time was absolutely wonderful, and everyone we interacted with on the day of was so kind and sweet! They were efficient and organized, and I loved the variety of wines they offered at their tasting bar (seeing wines from outside of Texas was quite a relief after so many Texas wines!). We were on a weekend trip to Fredericksburg and found this little gem while driving on 290. Our server, Miss Lynn was the sweetest and took exceptional care of us! At first we just wanted to stop in and have a wine tasting, but after seeing all that they had to offer, we decided to grab a bite to eat as well. We ordered the peach and the peach-watermelon swirl wine-a-rita, the chicken salad sandwich and chips and salsa. This was the best chicken salad I have ever had, it was incredibly flavorful, the chicken was well seasoned, the bread had just a hint of sweetness that complimented the savory aspects of the sandwich. Their chef owe her came out to talk to us, and she is such a talented chef! She roasts tomatoes in house for the salsa, and uses her own sourdough starter for the oatmeal molasses bread for the sandwiches. We couldn't leave without buying a loaf of bread and container of chicken salad! Sweetbriar Rose was an amazing experience! I have been coming to Wine Country for roughly a year now and this place has only been open for 7 months. My friend and I saw a sign that said "Wine Jello Shots" and we were sold. We had the most amazing experience with the staff! The two ladies (who's names I am forgetting) were the sweetest in the world. We had a nice tasting and the jello shots were to die for. I stopped here yesterday while celebrating my sisters 30th birthday. We were pleasantly surprised at how cool this place is. The atmosphere is very laid back and they had options from food and coffee to beer and wine. We tasted some delicious wine Jell-O shots and enjoyed a nice glass of beer while taking a wine break. Not sure if it's possible to give them less than one star. This place is obviously only still open because it's one of the few places on the 290 wine bus tour route. We ordered a cold sandwich, it took two hours and the orders were not correct. They did not offer to reimburse us for anything, nor did they show any sort of remorse. Honestly what could I tell you about this wonderful establishment that you couldn't already see for yourself in about two seconds of being there?! I've been to quite a few of these winery's that boast "refinement and class" and to often I'm left a bit insulted, depressed and feeling cheated with the small tastings and the snooty service.... I usually went on tours because someone was getting married or a friend was moving away and everyone thought let's drink and then ride a bus....not really my glass of wine. So there I was completely miserable, it was hot and all the places we went looked like carbon copies of each other and I had nearly given up hope but then it happened. Our party walked into sweetbriar rose and were immediately greeted by the sweetest woman, her name was Ann witcher and I'll never forget her sweet personality. I met her daughter that day too she is the co owner and an amazing pastry chef, yes that's right they have food...real food. I was so impressed by the rich atmosphere of French country chic, it was like they tore a page from better homes and gardens...it was heaven. I was so relieved to find a place that had it all!! Food, a good wine selection, outdoor seating, and a bathroom with free feminine essentials. Sweetbriar has thought of it all and that's why I'm a fan for life, I've been there twice now and plan on bringing all my friends. I never felt rushed or unwelcomed, and I now truly feel like a part of their family thank you sweetbriar for welcoming us in!!! read more
