We were seated upstairs, which I highly recommend as it is a cozy room and is noticeably quieter than the large downstairs area. This is a Texas-themed restaurant with an expansive Texas wine and beer list. We began our night with two perfect Martinis and their Comp carrot soup. Our App, the pepper jack Lobster boudin balls, was unique and delicious. Plus one ordered the Filet, and it was cooked perfectly with a nice char and a medium red center. I went full throttle Texan with the chicken-fried ribeye. I'm not a chicken-fried guy, but man, was this delicious. The breading was lite and the steak was oh so tender. One thing that makes this restaurant unique is that there are actually cabins situated directly across from the restaurant that you can rent out and stay in known as the Cotton Gin Village. We were seated in one of the upstairs dining rooms with lots of wine on display. One draw about this place is their incredible selection of Texas wines. They also feature some Texas beers and great signature cocktails, even wine flights. We started with Ron YatesCabernet and a martini. They do offer several of the Texas wines by the glass, nothing from CA. There's only a choice of 10 entrées on the menu and 8 appetizers all of which are enticing. They do give you a sample of their carrot soup, but no complementary bread. I decided on the chicken fried ribeye and paired it with the Reddy cab. My wife had the grilled pork tenderloin medallions. The flounder was a bit too fishy for my taste, so I'd probably skip that next time. Both sides, the three-cheese grits and mixed vegetables, were well prepared and flavorful. The Cabernet Grill must have new management since our last visit a few years ago. The space is exactly the same. Rustic but upscale, just barely enough parking for busy dinners. The roasted carrot ancho soup with spicy pepitas is not usually something I'd be tempted to order, but it was a wonderful taste to start. Texas twinkies are always a good idea. I'll treat this as an update to a review I did in May of 2023. The experience this year was far better than what we experienced in 2023. This was my wife's birthday and we reserved a table for 6:30 pm which worked out perfectly after a long day of wine tasting. The atmosphere was exactly as we had experienced last time, but this time we sat inside the restaurant instead of outside. It was pleasant, not noisy, and had a very nice semi-formal dinner vibe. Our server (Edie) was very gracious and friendly. She quickly sat us and filled water glasses, brought menus and let us know that there were no specials (my thought was "after all this was a Wednesday night ;0)") There was a very nice card at our table wishing my wife a happy birthday, and Edie brought us a complimentary small serving of a very delicious soup (Roasted Carrot & Ancho); nice touch! I ordered a Hill Country Martini, which was delicious (ice cold with jalapeno-stuffed olives). They do have a date night special offering on the menu, but that would have been too much for us. We decided to each order a salad (I had the Steak Knife Wedge and my wife had the Tejas Ranch Caesar). We wanted to split the 14-ounce ribeye as we had a fairly decent lunch during our wine tour. The salads were large and full of great stuff! The wedge was loaded with chunks of blue cheese and bacon over ice cold lettuce. My wife's Caesar was delicious, and the dressing was perfect. Our steak was cooked to perfection (medium-rare) and served with mixed grilled veggies that were amazing. The steak was perfectly flavored, with amazing char, and mated perfectly with my martini. For dessert, we were provided a free piece of delicious cheesecake (birthday celebration for my wife) and it was very, very good! The service was far above average and I would say better than the typical upscale restaurant. The drinks were good, maybe not the greatest but we appreciated the ingenuity and the fact that all ingredients were Texas based. The food, this is where it really shines! Fried deviled eggs?? Never heard of such but they were amazing! A chicken fried steak.. pretty common in this area of the country but elevated with a lobster topped gravy. My wife had a grilled chicken dish and was very complimentary of the balsamic glaze and the mashed sweet potatoes. For dessert we had a baklava pistachio cheesecake. I'm a fan of pistachio and this was a great take on a cheesecake! My son ordered a salted caramel crème brûlée. He felt it could use a bit more browning on top as he didn't quite get the caramelization he was hoping for. I think I will always think of the food we had here because it was seriously incredible. We ordered the peach goat cheese app, stunning flavors, especially with the honey. I got the fried chicken and my god, the most tender and juicy fried chicken I have ever had. I will say I rarely ever order fried chicken but the preparation is what the real deciding factor was and I have zero regrets. I didn't care much for the honey butter sauce, their brown gravy is truely where it's at. The slaw was citrusy and a delicious choice. I went here on date night. The restaurant setting is very quaint. The service Edith provided was exceptional. But they failed on the food. Order the fillet of beef medium well. The chef decided to butterfly the fillet, over salted it and cooked it well done. I sent it back and after 20 minutes got my order. It does not take 20 minutes to remake my order. We also ordered the biscuits, which were great. Food was fantastic, with the Texas Twinkie and beef tenderloin really standing out. Wine pairings were perfect as well. However, the service was really slow. It took approximately 30 minutes between courses, and we were more than ready to leave by the time we got to the dessert course.
