I really enjoy their Old Fashioned and their version of a New Orleans Sazerac cocktail. Plus one is equally impressed with their Espresso Martini. Their mixologists are Pros and each cocktail is expertly made and presented. They do get busy and due to the complexity of their drinks the wait can be a tad long to order and receive your cocktail. This place was so amazing. We loved the atmosphere and the melted cheese platter with Brie -- so good. I could've ordered two of them however, I used all of my self-control to fight back the temptation we ordered a couple of drinks at the bar and then we went to the back and had the wine tasting, which was absolutely incredible shout out to David. Came here for my birthday, wasn't even served a drink here and was told I was not able to get a drink or be served because the bartenders felt "uncomfortable" to serve me and a guest of 3 people. I am a bartender as well and think this is crazy the way the handled this situation. This winery/distillery has a very nice selection. The two different bars was definitely confusing and a bit inconvenient. Also, I was told to have a tasting I would have to go next door. I didn't wander around because it seemed like too much work and it was pretty crowded when I visited. I would like to come back at a less busy time to figure out all my options. Besides logistics, this is a very nice spot. It's cozy and has additional lounge seating in the back near the cocktail bar and bathroom. The customer service was just okay, the bartenders seemed a bit rushed and the greeting was very scripted at the wine bar. We came in here for a drink after dinner. The place has a chill vibe with wines at the bar in the front and liquor at the back. We went for the artisan beverages in the back. I enjoyed the Mother Pucker. My husband went for the whiskey smash. They take their craft seriously so this isn't the place where you get your beverage quick, but we weren't in a rush and were enjoying the ambiance. They had a musician setting up while we were there but headed out before they started playing. It appeared they had further seating in the back (not sure if it was inside or outside). This is one of my all time favorite cocktail bars!! We stumbled in off the Fredericksburg strip and this spot feels so secluded and private. The dim lighting, cobblestone walls, large curtains, and large bars give this place the best ambiance. The service is incredible and I love that they distill their own liquors. I highly recommend the espresso martini - they make it with an incredible amount of foam. Also, a great dirty martini! This is the type of bar you want to snag a seat and sip for a few hours. Both times I've come back here there has also been live music - a nice touch! Diego preformed last weekend and did a phenomenal job (Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble covers). Mind you they are open till 10:45? It was only 9:30... I asked so you not like money? She then proceeded to yell at me that she could toss me out cause she's the general manager? I posted a review about a month ago detailing my experience with this establishment and was responded to with more condescending and unreceptive attitude by the owner Daniela M. It seems your staff misinformed you or you misread our association with the party you threw out for not having a physical ID. Completely separate from the fact you threw said party that we knew, we received horrible service from the bar. I understand that per TABC laws you cannot serve someone with a photo ID. That was not a contributing factor to the unpleasant experience my boyfriend and I endured while at your establishment. My bad experience stemmed from the condescension and lack of urgency from the bar. We waited too long for our drink since a bar back (not a bartender) took our order and didn't seem to relay that order to the bartender. In addition to the wait for our 2 drinks, we were not greeted with a "hi", "hello", "good evening " or anything of the sort, rather when we were finally able to get someone's attention (the bar back) to ask for the menu, we were met with "IM GONNA NEED TO SEE SOME ID". So just to reiterate, my disdain for this establishment is not attributed to you kicking out the group we knew and were not with but attributed with the horrible, unwelcoming service we received. We're from San Antonio and frequently go to Fredericksburg to eat and walk around the town. This was our first time going to Elk Winery. We did enjoy the scenery and the worker from the wine bar was really friendly when directing us and answering questions we had. They have two bars. One is for the wine and the other is for the cocktail drinks. Bartender at the cocktail drink wasn't very approachable. I mean I get sometimes it's annoying to answer questions about the drinks or menus but it's part of the gig. We felt a little rushed to order so we got the peach old fashioned which was on special by the way ($19) and an espresso martini ($17). For the price we paid, yes we drank them. Have we had better? Yes. The ambiance is nice and there is lots of seating. It's a nice spot to try once. read more

We'll, interestingly story here. WATCH your drink receipt !!! It's Monday in Downtown Fredericksburg, TX.... Slow day for tourism !!! Decided to stop in at the Elk Store Winery & Distillery. Stepping inside is very welcoming as a casual hangout where you could just sit for hours to visit with friends. Sort of like a Martini Bar atmosphere. Very cool. The wine bar is upfront and the distillery bar is towards the back. We sat down in the distillery section. Today..... there was only one other couple sitting at the wine bar. We were greeted "nicely", but not at all warm ~ and was handed a drink menu. OOoohhh, I like Old Fashions, I'll have one of those, please, using their Elk Bourbon !!! The menu price was $16.00.... Ok, but I'd like mine Unsmoked.... (which was $2.00 more). The Bartender, (sorry, I didn't get his name), didn't have any personality but did fixed an excellent drink. Fabulously blended and poured nicely over a large ice cube. I make them at home all the time, and I told him he did an excellent job on this one. Kudos !! We finish and ready to check out..... the charge on my Old Fashion cocktail was $18.00..... which would have been the price of the Smoked Old Fashion. I called him on it... I'm not certain, but the look on his face, IN MY OPINION, was.... he knew he was overcharging me. He said, I'm sorry and re-rang the receipt for the correct amount. Don't get me wrong.... it isn't the extra $2.00 charge..... I can handle that. It was the principle of the thing that Tourist can be having so much fun that things slip into play and being taken advantage of annoys me. And, it's just not right. The drinks are fantastic, and the liquors they distill in-house are so yummy! The pecan pie moonshine is delicious and makes a great holiday gift. The space has a great classy speakeasy vibe and the live music on certain nights makes it even better. They also have a good selection of wines if you don't want mixed drinks. Absolute dog water Pros: the place is clean and has a nice vibe when you walk in. The bars look great and they might have the best black rum I've had in Texas. Cons: Might have been the worst service I've ever had at a bar. Our bartender didn't greet us at all and I had to grab a menu from another patron who was leaving. Our bartender spent the entire 30 minutes we were at the bar talking with his buddies who were sitting right next to him at the end of the bar. I stopped counting "f-bombs" at around 15. They spent the entire time talking about beating up "white cowboys" and going on about how tough they were. The only interaction I had with the bartender was when he turned to me and said "what do you want"...then went back to the "f-bomb" filled joking with his buddies. Based on the other reviews where the expressed discrimination and got told racist remarks, I can't help but think that they refused to serve us because we were 2 people of color.
