SWEETGREENS @ KIRKLAND This was my first time visiting Sweetgreen in Kirkland, located in Totem Lake. Totem Lake is a great area to explore, with plenty of shops, restaurants, and even a movie theater all within walking distance. It's a nice spot if you're looking to spend some time around the Kirkland area. I've heard a lot about Sweetgreen, so I was excited to finally give it a try. The concept reminded me a lot of Chipotle since you can choose your base, protein, toppings, and sauces to create your own bowl. They also offer a variety of signature bowls if you don't want to build your own. Options included bowls with pesto, steak, and other combinations already put together for you. Unfortunately, my first impression wasn't the best. The staff didn't seem very friendly, and everything felt rushed. Since my dad and I were both first time customers, we weren't exactly sure what to order. It felt like we were being hurried through the line rather than being helped. For my bowl, I chose quinoa, romaine lettuce, and chicken. They had temporarily run out of chicken, but thankfully a fresh batch came out after only a few minutes, which I appreciated. I also noticed that the tables inside were pretty dirty, so we decided to sit outside instead. The outdoor seating was much more enjoyable anyway. As for the food, I thought it was good overall. I liked that everything tasted fresh and seemed to be made with wholesome ingredients. The vegetables were crisp, and the bowl felt healthy and filling. My biggest complaint was the chicken. It wasn't seasoned very much and tasted pretty plain, so I found myself relying on the sauce to add flavor to the meal. Overall, the food was decent, but the customer service and cleanliness left a lot to be desired. What a disappointment! I was so disappointed in my whole experience at this trendy "healthy" eatery. The staff was not friendly at all. The selection was pretty good but the portions were small and not very tasty. The food and service was mediocre, at best, and three salads were almost $90. I wanted to like this Sweetgreen location in Kirkland because the salads themselves are actually tasty and the ingredients seem mostly fresh. But everything else about the experience makes it not worth coming back. First, the portions are disappointing for the price. Don't expect a properly sized salad. They also seriously skimp on protein, very similar to what you see at Chipotle. And if you politely ask for the correct portion, be prepared for eye rolls, sighs, or visible annoyance from the staff. The biggest issue, though, is the lack of customer service. It's easily some of the worst I have experienced. The employees come across as completely uninterested and disengaged. I don't know if they are overworked or just don't care, but the service is incredibly slow and inattentive. I placed an online pickup order and specifically requested the dressing on the side. When I got my order, there was no dressing cup inside. I went up to ask whether it had been mixed in or simply forgotten. The person at the counter literally shrugged and walked away without answering. I had to double-check that I wasn't imagining it. She just walked off without giving a response. I then asked another employee who came up to the counter. He was busy on his phone and chatting with a friend waiting nearby, and I couldn't get a proper response there either. At that point, we just left with our order, frustrated and disappointed. Honestly, I would much rather go to Mendocino Farms just a block away. It costs a couple dollars more, but the staff is friendly, the service is professional, and the food is significantly better overall. Really disappointing experience. read more

After a long drive to my nephews birthday party, I needed something sustainable for lunch and in mood for something healthy as well. Since so many new spots been popping up on the eastside, it was kinda fun to see whats near and quick to grab a bite to eat. This mall was packed...! even after the holiday season, so if you can strategize parking on the fly as you drive in, you should be fine ;) When I walked in, there was hardly a line but a couple in front of me & some people dining along the windows. Theres no signage but start the opposite end of the cash registers to go through a line similar to Chipotle or Panda Express. After several of us lined up, some of the staff came out to get our orders. They have a lot of great choices which I had difficulty narrowing down but ended up with the Chicken Pesto Parm. So good! I appreciated the overall variety of flavor, like the sauteed seasoned broccoli as well as the heated up quinoa and amount of parm, pesto, & hot sauce added so much to what would be 'just' a salad. Got this yesterday for lunch at work with the team. Honestly a shocker as to how good the food was! The portion was great for building your own. My colleague it picked up, said service was friendly and quick. The expected time was 12:20 but everything came out faster. You can include 10 toppings which increase the price by .50 cents to 2-4 dollars for the premium options. Highly recommend their herb quinoa and sweet potatoes with the blackened chicken. For 17 bucks and a loaded healthy bowl this spot is a new favorite for work. read more

I got the hot honey chicken salad and it was AMAZING! The dressing was delicious and the chicken was tender. You can tell everything is fresh and cooked with care. I wish there was a Sweetgreen closer to me! But at least there's one on the eastside, specifically here in Kirkland where I can get some wholesome goodness that's always solid at Sweetgreen. Sweetgreen may also be one of those places of nostalgia for me because I used to eat at the Capitol Hill location when I was working in D.C., so would walk here on lunch breaks. So when I learned it was expanding to Washington state, I was happy, especially since Kirkland isn't far from where I live. The food features healthy salads and protein bowls that you can build your own or order one of their creations. This Kirkland one is located in the Totem Lake Village, which is bright and has outdoor seating. They also have chilled refreshments in the fridge for takeout and I love that they use compostable items for the food here. I've had a few items here, but my favorite is the chicken avocado protein bowl, which is filling and delicious. I love that they use fresh produce and wholesome ingredients, so when you eat here, you don't feel like crap! You feel nourished. I'll be eating here whenever I'm in the Totem Lake area. read more

I think the only negative thing to say about this place is the price point is pretty high. Especially if we are putting it into context that it is a price for a salad. With that out of the way, I went at lunch time on a weekday and it was busy. The line was almost to the door and I debated skipping out. But I waited and the line actually moved pretty fast. I ended up trying the hot honey chicken protein bowl and it was surprisingly good. I like the convenience of eating healthy and I can understand that would be the hype for why others eat here too. The food quality matched the high price but the portions were a little low IMO. I wanted to try the fries but they didn't have them and now that I know how things work I think I would have added more slaw to the standard portions of the bowl I got. I definitely will be eating here again but not going out of my way to do so. read more

This place has continued to go downhill since opening. This is the 3rd time they've been out of multiple items and don't tell you until you get to that phase of building your item. For example- today I ordered the picnic plate only to find out when we got to veggie toppings that they were out of half of them and then at the final dressing phase that they were out of the dressing. I would have selected a different item off the menu had I known I would have to make this many changes to what was supposed to be in the order. Truly the service leaves something to be desired across the board. The prices are also quite high. I will give them that the portion sizes are good and the food always tastes great IF the substitutions that are available are what you like. I do also love the outdoor seating options available. The food is decent. Agree with others, they really skimp on the protein. My main issue is how slow the service is. Expect to wait 50 minutes or more during lunch rush hour. Even if you place an order online and arrive 20 mins later at your estimated ETA, expect to wait another 30 mins to get your order which will for sure be missing items like sauce or snacks you may have ordered with points. At that point asking anyone to help is pointless since everyone seems super busy and overworked. Also what's up with the freezing A/C there? It's Washington, it's already cold most of the time. Ordered online and picked up my bowl conveniently on the side shelf. This was my first time trying Sweetgreen and I enjoyed it! Definitely not as filling compared to other bowl places like Chipotle but it's more veggie packed. I really liked the miso sauce as well. My absolute favorite salad place ever! There's so many varieties and combinations that you can make when you make your own bowl their pre-arranged bowls are great as well if you don't wanna have to choose everything. As a vegetarian, I love that there are so many different sources of protein and I don't always have to stick with just tofu. My go to order is spring mix with quinoa and the tofu and sweet potato for my proteins. Then I go with the chickpeas, broccoli and cucumbers for my toppings then I say heavy on the green goddess salad dressing and ask for chili flakes on top I used to get Parm on it as well but I couldn't justify paying that much just to have a little bit of cheese added on top so now I just take the salad home and add my own Parmesan. Honestly when you say heavy on the salad dressing you don't necessarily even have to have cheese so mostly I just eat it without it. The service is pretty fast and the line moves pretty fast even if there is a longer line and the place is cute and clean enough for you to sit and enjoy the salad over there. read more

This is the last time I will be tolerating this type of service given to me since it is the complete last time I am ever coming back here. Initially, I was going in for a quick order to get my son who was looking forward to eating a good and healthy meal. Sweetgreens has absolutely delicious food but the customer service is downright horrible. For my first experience, it was exactly like this one. Awful, terrible, it makes me feel like I was rushed and not able to fully process what I wanted to order. All of the crew looks like they are all having a bad day, no smile, no greeting, rude when talking to other customers, the place was dirty, bathroom trash was overflowing, the bathrooms inside are disgusting and filthy, and now I'm questioning if the kitchen is even sanitary. It's gross and filthy, and I was treated with filth and bad energy when I was ordering. These guys screw (Totem Lake location in particular) up my order more than any other restaurant I've been to. Constantly leave out bread, sauces, etc. In my last order they accidentally out hot sauce in the kid's meal we ordered for my daughter. They also frequently run out of ingredients, but don't notify you until you pick up if you are doing takeout. One time they must have been running out of packaging and my order was sealed with Saran Wrap instead of a lid--super weird. read more
