The first time I tried this place it was during an ugly snowstorm-2022 and I was stuck at work. A coworker was ordering from here and I was starving and wanted something heartier than a regular salad. I checked out the menu and decided on the hot honey chicken. BABYYYYYYY, that meal was delicious!!!!!! I was licking my fingers and dancing around in my seat at work, LOL. The meal consisted of blackened chicken, hot roasted sweet potatoes, warm quinoa, kale-cabbage slaw, roasted almonds, hot honey mustard sauce. Initially I was eating the meal without the sauce. Once I put the sauce on that food, I was really smacking everything was just sooo good and flavors really blended well together. The second time I visited I went into the location around lunchtime (1PM) and the line was crazy long but moved pretty quick. The staff were very friendly and smiled which I loved. I always try and order different menu items when I return to a spot but my head keep returning to that hot honey chicken and it was calling my name so I had to oblige, LOL. That meal was still delicious and hit the spot. The only negative is the price is a bit pricy but very well worth it. Nutritious eats and satisfying flavor don't have to be mutually exclusive though, as evidenced by their hearty bowls that mix savory and sweet, crunchy and chewy, earthy and bright. Couple that with a practice of using sustainably farmed ingredients and you have a company I can stand for. I remember going out of my way to line up for the only sweetgreen location in the city, but locations have been cropping up all over the city, including this new one right by the 34th street ferry stop, away from the office crowds. Yes, an average bowl here will set you back about $14, which is a few bucks more than your other salad chains will charge you. But you can't get sustainably farmed steelhead, delicious dressings like spicy cashew, and know exactly which farm they sourced your hubbard squash from anywhere but here. I've noticed other salad chains are smartly expanding the sort of premium items they throw into your salad but none of their salads hold a candle to a sweetgreen salad. None of them. When I was doing the office lunch thing I'd dabble with the cheaper salad chains so I wouldn't shell out $14+ for lunch daily, but I'd keep coming back to sweetgreen, telling myself it increased my quality of life. I mean, at the very least, it elevated my sad desk lunches. That was worth it, to me. Pro tip: The ingredient costs stack up fast when you build your own bowl. Instead, choose an existing salad or bowl from their menu that you mostly like and just swap out certain ingredients for ones you want instead. They'll let you do that if you're not drastically changing the bowl. Order ahead on their app to avoid waiting in line too, particularly now when most of us are avoiding spending too much time with other people indoors. I came here for the soft opening. It opens on Thursday, 12/19. I'm a fan of sweetgreen but the location near my work place on Park Ave and 32nd St (experimental lab) is so crowded and busy that even when I order on the sweetgreen app, it still takes a long time to receive my order. This is probably the best and newest sweetgreen location to open. Since this location is on 1st Avenue, there's a lot less people. I would say it's great for NYU employees since there's a lack of lunch places in the area. I also like the large windows and the spacious seating. I ordered the chicken pesto parm bowl (roasted chicken, tomatoes, spicy broccoli, za'atar bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, quinoa, spinach) and it was delicious. This is Sweet green's newest location. It's on the corner of 35 street and 1 Avenue. Right by the m15 bus stop. I went there today for their soft opening and had a wonderful experience. I ordered my go to fish taco salad with a side of avocado and it taste extremely fresh and delicious. Highly recommend getting this. The staffs here are friendly and helpful.
