We were introduced to Sweeties Bakery cakes through friends who had ordered bday cakes there for their parties. In a nutshell this place offers great tasting cakes for a more than reasonable price. We needed a bday cake for my son's party this past Sunday (12/7/14), and were expecting 80 people, so we needed a big one. The husband wanted to take the easiest/cheapest option and get two large half sheets from Costco, but we'd already done that the year before and I wanted to get something that tasted better. I remembered the Sweeties cakes at our friends' kids' parties and asked them about it. They both highly recommended them. So I called SB the Tuesday before the party and told them I needed a cake for Sunday for about 80 people. I decided to stick with the flavor I've had before - marble (chocolate and vanilla) cake with half fresh banana, and half fresh strawberry filling. They do offer the whole cake with bananas and strawberry mixed, but that is an additional $5 charge. Also they will ask if you want sliced almonds on the side (for an addt'l charge). Any special decorations are an additional cost as well. The sponge cakes here are very good - a nice sponge with good flavor, not too sweet, and not dry. The frosting is not buttercream and more like a whipped cream - very light and again not so sweet that it will put you into a diabetic coma. They add generous portions of fruit filling in the center and it's the fresh stuff - nothing frozen here. For the amount of ppl we were serving the woman I spoke with told me the full sheet would be enough for that guest total. But when it was all said and done, we were left with an entire half sheet of cake left! Their cakes are on the taller side, so we didn't need to slice the pieces very wide for each guest to get a good sized piece. So I recommend you go a size lower that you would typically order, or else you'll be eating cake for days like we're doing now. We opted for a basic design (no added charges) which included frosting balloons in the color(s) of your choosing and sprinkles with a birthday message. The ginormous full sheet cake cost a total of $86. This is extremely reasonable for the quality you're getting. A similar fruit filled cake of the same size would cost you at least double that anywhere else. Ordering was easy and painless. I give Sweeties Bakery a big thumbs up on their cakes! We'll be coming back again the next time we need a bday cake. read more

My friend changed my life when she got me a cake from Sweetie's for my birthday this year! My usual order is the white cake with fresh strawberries. The cake is always so fluffy and light, never dry, and always delicious. I love the fresh strawberries in the cake, and their whipped cream frosting is delightful! The staff is always super friendly and service is so efficient. The cakes are reasonably priced, so we are always looking for an excuse for cake now :) read more

THE CAKE WAS AMAZING!!! Both in taste and appearance. We ordered our cake for our daughter's 1st birthday. They made it on time and the way we wanted which was Alice in wonderland theme. I've been coming to this bakery for years and they never disappoint me! It's a small little bakery off of Normandie and the parking is a bit small, but their cakes are delicious. Their cakes are also decently priced. I usually order the sheet cakes or 8in cakes ($20) with strawberries. You can also add almonds on the side of the cake for $1.25 extra. I highly recommend this bakery!! read more

BEWARE do not order custom cakes from them! They do not properly stack cakes nor do they properly handle and store them! WASTE of money and EMOTIONS my son was looking forward to his cake for weeks all to have it melted and sliding over before it reached the car!!!!! WORST custom cake order ever!!! Not to mention the younger man that works there needs a lesson in customer service!!! VERY VERY VERY rude and not sympathetic at all about the situation! This place ran smoothly before he came in to the small business! They did better off without him!!! The cake came out so cute! It's super good and light not too sweet which I love even more. My only critic would be the cake writing. But other than that so good will definitely be going back! Also note that they only do sponge cake to by knowledge I had no idea. I'm not a big fan but as long as it's kept cool it tastes great! read more

Walking in Sweeties, I Was able to order a birthday cake, half strawberry half banana filling and for only $1.50 more the frosting was sprinkled with chopped almonds! The cake was decorated with my aunts name and pretty flowers! The cake was very good tasti ng and everyone enjoyed it! Customer service is all smiles and get you out fast! read more

3.5 Stars With da boys, got lost and saw the bakery sign. When Nick H sees bakery what does he do??? "I brake for bakery!" The Napolean was soft and flakey but a little too much butter for me. This place has the best little 0.15 cent cookies. The almond cookies are my favorite. For such a small bakery, it sure got packed. Park in the back or park right on the sidewalk in front of the store. I am not sure who "sweety" is. The lady helping us was grumpy. I believe the bakery is closed Mondays. Cheap yummy cookies will have me coming back. read more

Pretty simple: Cheesecake was hard as a rock and they don't use graham crackers as crust. Hispanic women rushed me out the store. Didn't even greet me, just said " I'll be right with you alright!" She gave no eye contact either. Sad thing is I been living in Gardena for 5 years and always wanted to come here and I see that was a waste. Will not return. Wow...they've really raised their prices! The smallest cake is now$ 17, which is seven more than before, and it's a smaller size too! Still a good cake, and still worth it. Just not as good a deal as in the past. read more

I ordered a cake with a month in advance! I wanted a heart shaped cake. The day I was suppose to pick up my cake I called them and asked them before I left my house if my cake was ready and they said YES. I get to the bakery and they said they couldn't make my cake. This is very unprofessional!! How are you going to tell me my cake is ready and then I get there and you have no cake for me. The women here are VERY RUDE! Never place your order here!! read more

So disappointed. I bought a cake for my daughters 8th birthday party it was a small cake I paid 65$ I was thinking with all the good reviews and as expensive as It was that it would be delicious. The decorating was ok but Worst cake ever it was chocolate and so so dry my baby didn't even like it I noticed a lot of people at the party just tried it but didn't finish it. Never again I could of just went to Ralph's and saved me a ton of money. Will not be coming here again. read more

I live in Houston now but this place brings me great memories. The cakes there are amazing. My mom used to buy our birthday cakes from there all the time. I'm sad that Im so far away now. I would've love to continue buying cakes from them for my kids events. Bread is soft and amazing! I love the almonds on the cake! It's not overly sweet either. It's just perfect!!! I will defiantly swing by next time I visit LA. read more

Turns out they got the cake from Bonjour. Liked the cake so much that I visited Bonjour right after my meal (around 3pm). However, by the time I got there, they only had one type of cake available. I was told that the best time to visit their shop is around 11am. Around noon today, I dropped by the shop again. I was determined to try more of their cakes. This time around, they had a full selection of desserts. I ordered the Mont Blanc Roll Cake, Mango Mousse, Chocolate Cake and Cream Cheesecake. I, of course, liked the roll cake, but liked the chocolate and cheesecakes even more. There are a lot of bakeries scattered around the South Bay, but this place is now my favorite. I also love dipping my concha in my coffee, so I picked up a hot coffee from McDonald's next door instead. Customer service is good, and the staff have been pleasant both times I've visited. However, during my last visit, only one staff member was working. I went in the morning before work, so it was during the breakfast rush. I had to wait about 10 minutes just to place my order because he was taking orders and preparing the food, and the two people ahead of me had ordered a big box of conchas. It wasn't his fault, and I honestly felt bad that he was working by himself. I hope management makes sure there is enough staff, especially during the busy hours.

I walked in expecting it to be self-serve like 85 Degrees Bakery, but it's actually set up more like a donut shop or Porto's, where most of the pastries are displayed in a case and you tell the staff what you'd like. They do have a refrigerated self-serve section with sandwiches and onigiri, as well as a table with loaves of bread and buns. The ordering process caught me off guard because I usually like taking my time looking through all the pastries at bakeries. Since everything was behind the counter, I felt a little rushed with people waiting behind me. They have so many options that it can be a bit overwhelming. I also had to stop myself from ordering too much since I'm trying to cut back on carbs. Here's what I ordered: Hot Dog Bun - 4/5: Tasty with a soft, fluffy bun. I just wish it had a little more of that cheesy crust on top. Ham and Cheese Croissant - 3/5: My boyfriend ordered this and thought it was just okay. It was a little small for the price. Strawberry Cream Croissant - 5/5: They're known for this, and now I understand why. The pastry was light and flaky, the strawberries were sweet, and the custard was rich without being overly sweet. Spam Roll Onigiri - 4/5: I loved the egg, and it was really flavorful. It was served a bit cold, though. I think it would taste even better if it were kept under a heat lamp. Raisin Bun - 5/5: So soft and fluffy, with just the right amount of raisins. It was also a great value--six buns for only $4.20. Hot Vanilla Latte - 4/5: Strong with just a light sweetness. It was really good, but I think it could have been a little creamier. The prices were reasonable. I spent about $26 for everything, which I thought was a great deal. Customer service was excellent. Even though there was a line behind me, the staff never made me feel rushed while I decided what I wanted. The barista was especially friendly and even checked in afterward to ask if I liked my latte. If I'm ever back in the area, I would definitely come again.

If you see this place, that's the universe telling you....It's time to stop and enjoy some delicious coffee and a pastry ASAP!!!!!

The Banana Milk Latte was delicious once everything was mixed well, but the Honey Bori Latte was just bitter and then less bitter when mixed. It was already half melted, there was no salted honey cold foam or Jolly Pong which is supposed to be part of the drink. I got the order to go, so I didn't notice that my drink was wrong until I got home, so I couldn't even get it corrected. I didn't realize the drink was wrong at first. I thought it was just a flavor I didn't like even though I noted that I couldn't taste Barley at all. Then half way throught it, I decided to look at the description on the app to remember what it was supposed to taste like because it tasted like an ordinary flavorless latte. The description said there's barley milk, salted honey cold foam and Jolly Pong. That's when it hit me that I either got the wrong drink or someone didn't make it right because there was no flavor of salted honey and definitely no Jolly Pong in my drink. It didn't even look like I had cold foam topping my drink, but maybe that's because it was melting already. Overall, I was very upset and disappointed with my drink, but was happy my mom's drink was fine. Now this is only a part of why I was dissapointed with yesterday's experience. The other reason was the app and workers. Maybe the workers aren't used to working with the Smoking Tiger app yet? Or maybe the app still needs work, but the drinks I ordered through the app took forever to be marked ready even though my drinks had been ready for some time which was obvious because my Honey Bori Latte was already half mixed because the layers of ingredients were melting into each other. I arrived at the cafe about 5 minutes after ordering, but the app's estimated wait time was another 10 minutes which wasn't a problem for me, especially since I saw a person waiting for his order and some people inside the cafe, although it wasn't full like usual. I just assumed some people ordered before me, so I just have to wait a bit, which again was fine with me especially since I was waiting for my mom to arrive. At some point after the one person waiting for their drink left, I realized the 2 girls at the counter were just talking and not making any drinks. I checked the app and it still said my order was being prepared. After 2 more people ordered their drinks and received them immediately, I went up to the counter, by this point it had been the app's estimated 10 minute wait. I told the girl with glasses my name and showed her the order on my phone. Then she walked toward the fridge and got my drinks, put them in a drink carrier, passed them to me and then turned around while looking at the receipt paper that was with the drinks. That was it. She didn't tell me which drink was which and they were not labeled, so my mom and I just had taste them to figure out which was which. At most places, they let you know which drink is which, so I was just confused with the service I received, especially when the place wasn't busy. And to top it all off, my order was marked completed 10 minutes after I received my order which again just left me in confusion. I usually love this place and was saddened when they got rid of their Choco Mugwort drink, but I'm always looking forward to their seasonal drinks and baked goods. This time though, I don't think I was even able to taste one of their new seasonal drinks because it tasted like a regular latte with milk. I want to try their other current seasonal drinks, but I'm also worried about what I will receive in the future and I'm not ready for another disappointing coffee any time soon.

They have premade torpedoes ready for pickup so no need to wait. Two sizes - get the large one, you'll thank me later! These are premade without condiments but somehow the "dry" sandwiches are so satisfying. Another option to consider if you like hot sandwiches is the meatball sub. Yumm!

I continued to yell back at them, explaining that there were absolutely no hash browns in my omelette and I want a refund for the hash browns immediately. Finally, after making me yell and argue with them for probably 3 minutes in front of the whole restaurant, she finally agreed to refund the $3. Horrible service, and dishonest. They tried everything they could to not give me a refund when there was no hash browns and I paid for them. Worst service ever.

I ate the skin too and it tasted great. The main part of this place is the soba. The kikouchi soba are thicker 100% buckwheat noodles that were very well cooked and pleasant to eat. The Plum "Ume" broth was so refreshing and nice. I ate it cold; I probably would have preferred it hot but the is just a personal preference. The Ginger Pork was great. The pork itself was super gingery without being too pungent. The shredded cabbage was super easy to pick up and eat and the side of noodle salad and miso soup were great complements to the meal. I can tell no corners were cut anywhere and that Otafuku puts a little of effort into every meal they prepare. There is great care for all of the preparations and it was a very special meal.
