I grabbed what I needed plus a few more items because well...when in Rome. Only one employee asked if I needed assistance, but I don't actually think she was a Sephora employee - maybe an independent contractor for a beauty brand...? The check out line was also crazy long, but moved fairly quickly and the girl who worked at the counter was friendly. Being as I turn 40 this month, I'm trying to up my skincare game more than it already is so I'll definitely be back for more items soon!

Tinsel is cheap anyways so it's not that much of a loss, but was really hoping they would last more than 2 days. I have honestly never felt more uncomfortable shopping than I did the other day…read more I went into the store with a simple game plan. I needed a contour stick and dry shampoo. I knew exactly which brands I wanted and didn't need any assistance. When an associate first offered to help, I politely declined. My friend then asked where the brand we were looking for was, so the associate pointed us in the right direction and asked again if we needed anything else. I again said no. From that point on, the associate continued following us throughout the store, checking in repeatedly and even asking if I found what I needed from NYX. At one point, I also heard her on the walkie-talkie asking if they could see the cameras. Then another associate asked if we needed help. In total, four different associates approached us to offer assistance while other customers were free to browse without being interrupted. The associate who initially helped us never really left our side until we checked out. Maybe they were genuinely trying to provide excellent customer service, and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, it certainly didn't feel that way, especially when other customers who appeared different from us weren't receiving the same level of attention. The experience made me extremely uncomfortable, and I ended up cutting my shopping trip short. Whether intentional or not, the level of scrutiny I felt while simply trying to shop was disappointing and left me feeling unwelcome.

While I was trying on another fail Aliyah looked for a dress for me. I came out of the dressing room disappointed from the last dress I tried but Aliyah had a gem waiting for me. I tried it and it was just right. I asked if Nordstrom sold Shapeware and she said oh yeah just go straight across. We have it in lingerie. There I met the excellent Lindsey who was so kind and did not make me feel weird when I asked a ton of noob questions about Shapeware. She was signing off for the day, but handed me off to Victoria. I ended up with the right Shapeware that went seamlessly under my new cocktail dress. I am so delighted that I found what I needed at the very last minute and that Nordstrom had the right people in the right place to help me. I'm leaving my regular department store and making Nordstrom my first choice now.

Then I remembered I had "find a healthy, non-toxic lipstick" on my shopping list--and that's when I discovered this gem of a store. Abby greeted me warmly and was incredibly knowledgeable. When I asked about clean, non-toxic cosmetics, she introduced me to Jane Iredale. I was honestly surprised--I had used Jane Iredale years ago, but stopped because the colors didn't show up well. But Abby showed me how much the line has improved--the pigments are richer, the variety is better, and there are more beautiful options than before. She helped me find the perfect foundation shade, walked me through lip liners, moisturizing lip colors, and helped me choose a gorgeous eye shadow palette. Her care and attention made it such a fun and uplifting shopping experience. They don't just carry hair care brands either. They have skin and nail supplies as well. It may be confusing with so many different products, but the staff is willing and happy to help you with any questions. The store is open to licensed professionals only. They do allow you to bring along a guest as long as they pay cash.
